Twickenham
Twickenham is the second largest centre and has a range of shops,
offices, educational, community, leisure and entertainment facilities
and is well served by public transport, including fast trains to
London Waterloo. The re-development of the South Stand at
Twickenham stadium and a new 156 bed Marriott Hotel located
at the same site boost visits to the town and borough.
The Twickenham town centre manager (TCM), Liz Rice, works to
improve the profile and image of the town centre and particularly
to stimulate inward investment and enhance the environment for
the benefit of all. The TTCM board publishes the Twickenham Guide
to local Pubs, Restaurants, Shops and Services. One of the most
important events of the year is the Twickenham Festival held
in June.
Whitton
Whitton is family-orientated, ethnically diverse and has a real sense
of community. A stone’s throw away from Twickenham Rugby
Stadium and close to the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller
Hall, the town is well served by public transport. The retail mix within
Whitton has seen progressive changes, with the growth of more
food and drink related establishments driven by today’s café culture.
The town centre retains some of its 1930s charm, has a village feel
and currently provides local convenience shopping with some of the
major high street brands, as well as smaller independent grocers
and specialist shops.
Whitton has a part-time town centre manager, Amanda Lyndon-
Chappell, available to provide support for the town and advise on
retail units available.
Barnes Community Association
The Which? Holiday Guide (March 2009) suggested Barnes as
"one of the top ten places we love to visit across this great land".
It has a unique ‘urban village’ feel to it and yet has good transport
connections in and out of London. Barnes has a fascinating mix
of unusual gift, clothes and food shops interspersed with award
winning cafés and restaurants, river walks and pubs and a village
duck pond.
The Barnes retail champion, Sue Nichol, provides businesses with
support and opportunities to promote their services through events
and general marketing and liaises with the council on issues
affecting the town.
