We've Been To London But Not Seen The
Queen
The first weekend of November saw 18 of St James's Guides and 3 leaders
catching the 7.25 a.m. train to London for an action packed 24 hours!
First stop was Downing Street and standing on the steps of Number 10, It
was a very special experience for all of us, and even more so for the 2
Guides who made their Promise there. Next to the Cenotaph and then The
Guide Association Headquarters in Buckingham Palace Road. It was good
to leave our bags there before going on to see Buckingham Palace. Next we
went by boat down the Thames to Greenwich and enjoyed the Visitor
Centre before visiting the amazing floodlit O2 Arena.
Getting 21 people on and off buses can be quite a challenge, especially as
they were very full with everyone heading to Blackheath Common for the
fireworks! We sat outside a Pizza Express and enjoyed our pizzas, mostly
followed by pink candyfloss, before joining the crowds to oooh and aaah at
the exploding fireworks in the sky. Amazingly we managed to stay together
despite the thousands of people heading for the station and returning to
London. By 10.30 we were all in our sleeping bags after a full and exciting
day. Sunday we had some 'essential' retail therapy in the souvenir shops
before returning to King's Cross and home to Alnmouth.
It really was a fantastic 24 hours of fun and new experiences.

We raised a wonderful total of £201.12 in
just over one hour for Children in Need on
14 th November. A fantastic achievement
and all thanks to Daisy! It was her idea to
have a coffee evening with a cake stall and
other Pudsey activities, and so we did.
