How the Bulldog Fraternity Point System works:
The Bulldog Fraternity Point System is for those players affiliated with a Fraternity within Ferris State
University. The Bulldog Fraternity Point System is based on a Fraternity’s ability to generate points in five
different categories: participation, sportsmanship, number of regular season games/matches/events won,
meetings attended and/or Captain’s Quiz passed and team playoff placement in each intramural sport. The point
system is designed to reward those sororities who participate in the Intramural Program and at the same time
maintain a good level of sportsmanship. A running total of points will be kept throughout the academic year for
those sororities who consistently participate in the program. A team must compete in 4 of the 7-team sports but
is encouraged to compete in as many sports as possible.
The champions of the Fraternity Points System league will receive their team named engraved on the Karas
Cup which is displayed in the lobby of the Student Recreation Center. The Fraternity Point System league
champion will also receive a plaque to display within their organization. Each Fraternity Point System league
champion team member will receive a championship t-shirt. All awards will be distributed at the end-of-theyear
awards banquet.
Point System Breakdown:
Each sport within the Bulldog Fraternity Point System will be allowed a max of three (3) individual teams or
three (3) Greek Co-Rec teams (or any combination of Fraternity or Greek Co-Rec) per Fraternity and 100% of
these participants must be affiliated with said Fraternity.
Each of the five categories represented in the Bulldog Fraternity Point System have been assigned point values.
The distribution of points in each sport can be found on the Bulldog Fraternity Point System Graph.
Captain’s Quiz:
Captain’s meeting points (see graph) are given each time a team’s representative attends the captain’s meeting
and/or passes the required captain’s quiz.
Participation:
Participation points will make up a large number of the team’s total points. Full participation points (see graph)
are awarded if a team competes in all scheduled games/events without any forfeits.
**NOTE: For each forfeit a 20 point deduction will be assessed. For each default a 5 point deduction will be
assessed.
Sportsmanship:
Sportsmanship points are awarded according to the average ratings received by a team. The ratings are based on
evaluations completed by intramural staff at the completion of each game. The criteria below will be used for
the sportsmanship rating.
“A” –Excellent Conduct and Sportsmanship – Coaches, players and spectators cooperate fully with the officials,
Intramural Supervisors and opposing team members. The captain calmly converses with officials about rule
interpretations and judgment calls. The captain also has full control of her teammates.

“B” – Average Conduct and Sportsmanship: coaches, players and spectators show verbal dissent toward
officials, Intramural Supervisors and/ or the opposing team members briefly during a contest which may or may
not merit actions by the Intramural Staff. The captain exhibits good control over the team, and is in complete
control of herself. There are no blatant displays of overall poor sportsmanship, however a member of the team
may have been penalized for a nonthreatening unsportsmanlike act.
“C” – Below Average Conduct and Sportsmanship: coaches, players and spectators constantly comment, argue
and complain to Intramural Staff and opposing team members during a contest which may or may not merit
actions by the Intramural Staff. Team captain has minor control over her team and is generally in control of
herself. Specific acts include but are not limited to abusive language, profanity toward an opponent, profanity
from the sidelines, excessive arguing with an official’s decision, taunting and opponent, or obscene gestures.
“D” – Poor Conduct and Sportsmanship: coaches, players, and spectators constantly comment, argue and
complain to Intramural Staff and opposing team members during a contest which merits action from Intramural
Staff. Team captain has no control over her team or herself. Specific acts include but are not limited to fighting,
profanity or threatening behavior towards and official, a flagrant foul, profanity from the sidelines, or repeated
offenses on the same player.
Regular Season Games:
Games and matches won are applied to a team’s total points, by multiplying the number of games or matches
won by ten during season play for major sports or by five for minor sports and tournaments. If a team goes
undefeated during regular season play, they will be awarded an additional 15 points for major sports or an
additional 10 points for minor sports and tournaments.
Playoff Placement:
Playoff Placement points (see graph) are awarded at the end of playoffs to the teams that place 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd , and
4 th .
