SVCC Admission and Registration Information for Credit Courses
Any person who has a high school diploma or the equivalent
or is at least 18 years of age and is able to benefit from a
program at the College may be admitted as a Curricular Student
or as a Non- Curricular Student. High school students
may also be enrolled in credit courses with their principal’s
permission.
Curricular Students (full- or part-time) who wish to be
admitted to a specific degree, diploma, or certificate
program should:
1. Submit a completed Application for Admission.
2. Submit a completed Application for Virginia In-State
Tuition Rates if claiming entitlement to in-state rates.
3. Have high school or GED and previous college transcripts
sent to SVCC.
4. Complete SVCC placement testing.
5. After items 1 through 4 are complete, have an admissions
interview with a college counselor for final acceptance
into a curriculum.
Non-Curricular Students (part- or full-time) not working
toward completion of a degree, diploma, or certificate
need only complete items 1 and 2 above.
Placement testing and placement recommendations—If
you are enrolling as a curricular student in any program
or are enrolling in a math or English class, take the SVCC
placement tests and have an interview with a counselor.
Your placement results may indicate that one or more
Developmental courses are required. If you have taken a
Developmental course and received an “R”, re-enroll in it. If
you received a “U”, consult your advisor and your instructor
before re-enrolling.

Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice by State
Board for Community Colleges.
*Includes Technology Fee of $8.50 per credit, a Service Fee of
$1.25 per credit, a Student Fee of $1.25 per credit, and for outof-state
and contract students, a Capitol Fee of $21.00 per credit
in addition to all other fees.

Methods of Payment—Tuition and fees are due upon registration,
and may be paid by cash, check, money order, ,

out to SVCC for the exact amount only.

allow the college to accept the credit card only if it is in
the student’s name.
Veterans—to be eligible for full- or part-time Veterans
Affairs (VA) educational benefits (GI Bill), a veteran must
complete all steps for a Curricular Student. VA applications
may be obtained from the College Veterans Affairs Office.
Financial Aid—Anyone who will be a Curricular Student
may apply for financial aid. Applications may be obtained
from the Financial Aid Office.
*Students who have pre-registered for Fall 2018 will be dropped from all courses if tuition payment has not been
received by this date. Registration is not complete until your tuition and fees are paid. We are standing by to assist you in
every way we can. Please visit the financial aid office to see if you qualify for financial aid and visit our web site to sign
up for the payment plan (TMS) to help you spread out your tuition obligation. Thank you for taking care of your tuition
obligation in timely manner.
MasterCard
Senior Citizen—Persons 60 or over may be eligible for
waiver of fees and tuition. Contact either Office of Admissions
and Records for details.
Minimum Enrollment for Classes—Each class is offered
on the condition of adequate enrollment, and the College
reserves the right to cancel or discontinue any course
announced herein either because of small enrollment or for
other reasons deemed sufficient by the College. The College
also reserves the right to close registration in a course after
maximum enrollment has been reached.
Refunds—Students shall be eligible for a refund for those
credit hours dropped during the add/drop period for the
session. The refund will be at the full credit rate. After the
add/drop period has passed, there will be no refunds, except
for certain federal student financial aid recipients. This deadline
should not be confused with the last day to withdraw
without academic penalty for the standard semester. The
last day to drop with refund is published in the college calendar.
Refunds are issued to the registrant only, after the
census date (last day to drop with a refund).
To be eligible for a refund under any of the circumstances
set forth in the foregoing paragraph, a student must execute
an official drop form. Full refunds will be made when
a course is cancelled by the College. If you have questions
about the refund policy, contact either SVCC Admissions and
Records office.
Grades—It is the responsibility of the student to access their
grades at the end of each semester through the college’s
website at www.southside.edu. Students should report any
discrepancies to the Admissions and Records Office within
two weeks after the official end of the semester.
