<strong>Folsom</strong> Parks and Recreation<br />

Seniors First by LESLEY MILLER<br />

The <strong>Folsom</strong> Senior Center,<br />

sited at 48 Natoma Street,<br />

provides a wide range of<br />

programs and services.<br />

Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.<br />

Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to<br />

1 p.m. on the second Saturday of each<br />

month, anyone over 55 is welcome<br />

to visit; <strong>Folsom</strong> residency is not a<br />

requirement.<br />

A rotating schedule of free activities<br />

take place in the lounge, including<br />

games, movies, book discussions,<br />

bridge, and a popular “Off-Key<br />

Singers” group that meets Monday<br />

and Friday. The lounge maintains<br />

a stock of books, magazines, board<br />

games, and puzzles for those who<br />

want to engage in quiet activities.<br />

The <strong>Folsom</strong> Senior Citizens Club<br />

welcomes new members to its<br />

meetings twice a month for lunch,<br />

games, and occasional guest<br />

speakers.<br />

Meals on Wheels provides a hot<br />

lunch at 11:30 a.m. Monday through<br />

Friday (with prior reservation);<br />

seniors can also bring a sack lunch to<br />

enjoy the mealtime companionship<br />

and conversation.<br />

A variety of classes—some free and<br />

others fee-based—are available as<br />

well, including fine arts, ceramics,<br />

yoga, Zumba Gold, interval training,<br />

mobility and flexibility programs,<br />

“Walk and Talk” guided trail walks,<br />

driver’s safety, and guitar lessons. Free<br />

educational workshops on topics like<br />

Social Security planning, health care<br />

management, caregiver assistance,<br />

and identity theft prevention are<br />

available throughout the year, too.<br />

On August 24 at 11:30 a.m., a Hot<br />

August Nights Party will feature<br />

games, live entertainment, and light<br />

refreshments.<br />
