Archer Fellowships
Change Lives
This year, The University of
Texas at Arlington enjoyed a record
six undergraduate Archer
Fellows for annual year 2018-2019.
Five of the awardees are students
in the College of Liberal Arts, and
four of the five are from the Department
of Political Science.
Since its beginning, the Archer
Center has welcomed UTA students
to Washington D.C., where
they have had experiences that
ultimately changed the trajectory
of their futures. Archer Fellows
have worked on Capitol Hill, at the
Supreme Court, for non-governmental
organizations, and for firms
seeking to influence the policy
making process.
Rebecca Deen, Chair and Associate
Professor in the Department
of Political Science said, “Students
chosen for this highly competitive
and selective program have the
chance to experience first-hand
what they learn about in our
classrooms. Most importantly,
their horizons have been widened.”
Deen described how, prior to their
fellowships, many students would
never have dreamed they could
have careers in public service, the
law or policymaking. Deen continued,
“In part because of the
program, Archer alumni across the
country are making a difference in
their communities.”
