<strong>Millis</strong> Garden Club Awards Scholarship<br />
The <strong>Millis</strong> Garden Club recently awarded its<br />
Ken Nichols Memorial Scholarship for $1,000 to<br />
Bo Calais, a <strong>Millis</strong> resident who will be entering<br />
his sophomore year at UMass-Amherst where he<br />
is majoring in Biology. As a high school student,<br />
Bo participated three times in <strong>Millis</strong> Beautification<br />
Day, an annual community cleanup sponsored by<br />
the <strong>Millis</strong> Lions and <strong>Millis</strong> Garden Club.<br />
Bo has a strong interest in conservation and the<br />
environment. His conservation projects include<br />
helping his parents convert nine cabins on a Maine<br />
island to run primarily on solar power as well as<br />
installing solar panels on their <strong>Millis</strong> home. He says<br />
he is looking forward this summer to helping his<br />
mother with keeping a beehive box in an effort to<br />
bolster the bee population and the environment. Bo<br />
and his parents were guests at the <strong>Millis</strong> Garden<br />
Club’s end-of- the-year gathering held at Primavera<br />
Restaurant.<br />
This year is the first time MGC scholarship eligibility<br />
requirements were extended to include students<br />
attending accredited colleges and universities,<br />
not just for high school seniors. For more information<br />
