Just in Time Teaching
ACADeMICS
In December 2007, the Association of Graduates received a very generous
gift from the Martinson Family Foundation (John H . Martinson, ’70)
to support the Just in Time Teaching Program . Because of this generosity,
the Air Force Academy created a positive faculty development effort with
the goal of improving the quality of education here at the United States
Air Force Academy and beyond .
Over 3,000 cadets and 90 faculty members in more than 370 sections
of 75 courses use the JiTT hosting software . Martinson’s gift funds
workshop planning, materials, adaptation of technological tools, JiTT
curriculum planning services, JiTT consultants for teaching workshops
and faculty mentoring . Feedback for the program is positive, constructive,
and encouraging . JiTT enhances the ability of staff to establish
an on-going teaching and learning experience at the United States Air
Force Academy .
The Association of Graduates wishes to express a sincere thank you to
Bob and Carolie Kay
Bob and Carolie Kay’s son, Chris, graduated from the Academy in 1997 . Chris
was a star athlete in basketball and played four years at USAFA . Upon graduation,
he entered the Air Force and is a contracting officer stationed in
Cheyenne, WY .
The Academy is important to Chris, Bob, and Carolie . In their hometown of
Richmond, VA, Bob “scouts” up and coming basketball players for USAFA’s
team . With philanthropic dollars, Bob and Carolie saw a way to have a real
impact at the Academy . Presently, USAFA’s basketball team is succeeding with
the second lowest budget in the Mountain West Conference . The program is on
the cusp of achieving regular post-season play and accolades . With an infusion of
dollars, the team will play on the next level by being able to afford things like an
overseas competitive trip . Bob and Carolie pledged $100,000 to support the team
for the next few years . They saw their commitment as a way to support a program
that played an instrumental role in their son’s life, while helping to build USAFA’s
next great athletic program .
