Your Voice: Hordle magazine August to September

Hordle Village Scarecrow Competition & Trail 2018
2018 marks the 30th Anniversary of
Hordle’s twin-ship with Yerville in
Normandy, France, which coincided with
the Royal Wedding of Harry and Megan.
So, the Twinning Association thought that
the choice of “Princes & Princesses” as this
year’s scarecrow theme would be very apt.
As usual, there are 3 categories:
• Junior (for 5 to 11 year olds)
• Family/Individual
• Business.
Organised by Hordle & District Twinning Association
Entry forms for participants are available
now from Hordle Pharmacy, Budgens
(Hordle Garage), and Everything Pets, and
should be returned no later than 1 August,
in order for the trail to be mapped and
official numbers given out for each. Your
scarecrow should be proudly displayed at
the front of your house no later than
August 5th in order for people to judge it
alongside the other scarecrows on the
trail, during the rest of August.
We will produce a photographic display of
all scarecrows for the Hordle Village Fair
on Saturday 1st September, for people to
enjoy and judge, before announcing the
top 3 in each category at our prize-giving
towards the end of the Fair.
The appearance of scarecrows across the
village, is a wonderful sight that brings a
smile to your face, whilst following the
trail by foot or bicycle is great fun for
adults and children alike. If you haven’t
tried to make a scarecrow before - go on,
give it a go!
