Sandra and Marc 

Weinert opened the 

first Hotel Guldsmeden 

in Guldsmedegade in 

Aarhus in 1999 – hence 

the name. 

‘‘Guldsmeden’’ can mean 

2 things in Danish, a 

goldsmith and a dragonfly, 

and that is how our 

little winged icon was 

born. 

Sandras and Marcs family 

has grown, both in 

terms of kids and number 

of hotels - they are 

today the proud parents 

of 3 children - each of 

whom of course has 

a hotel named after 

them: Axel, Babette and 

Manon. Today, in addition 

to the now 27- 

room hotel in Aarhus, 

the Guldsmeden Hotels 

group encompasses 5 

hotels and a capacity of 

more than 500 rooms in 

Copenhagen, a 50-room 

hotel attractively located 

near Aker Brygge and 

Tjuvholmen in Oslo, a 

65-room hotel overlooking 

the Esja mountain 

in Reykjavik, and we 

will be opening in Potsdamer 

Strasse in Berlin 

in the summer of 2017. 

A gorgeous rental villa 

in Menton in the 

south of France as well 

as a luxury resort in 

Ubud, Bali, is also a 

part of the expansion 

that the Guldsmeden 

Hotels group has seen 

over the past decade.

Guldsmeden opened its 

129 rooms in 2007, in a 

beautiful turn-of-thecentury 

building, and 

is still our biggest hotel 

in terms of number of 

rooms – only to become 

bigger still, as we have 

taken over a hotel in the 

neigbhouring street and 

will expand with approximately 

80 rooms, 

bringing Axel´s total 

up to more than 200. 

Axel quickly became 

a pet favourite of the 

sustainabilty-oriented 

media and eco-conscious 

travellers who 

still want a certain level 

of comfort and quality, 

and was the first 

of the Guldsmeden 

Hotels to achieve the 

golden Ø and Green 

Globe certification. For 

a number of years, Axel 

was the place where we 

developed and tried out 

new ideas – and if they 

worked here, we would 

incorporate them in 

the rest of the Guldsmeden 

Hotels. If they 

didn´t work – well, 

we´ve probably had 

fun trying them out! 

Axels rooms include 

2 amazing penthouse 

suites with their own

As you possibly already 

know, you are staying

a strong sustainability-conscious

This may sound a bit 

dull, serious and abstinent, 

but we promise 

you we´re not! 

We love good fun, 

good wine & good 

food – and lots of it! 

In the meantime, we 

want to give you the

You can make a huge 

difference in a variety 

of ways – not all of 

them may be to your 

taste, and there´s no 

pressure - but here 

come a few tips, some 

of them might even 

be useful when you´re 

back home again. 

1Cardboard and 

glass items should 

be left on the desk 

or floor in the room, 

where our housekeeping 

will sort it further. 

It´s easier for us to sort 

it correctly, when it is 

not placed in the trash 

bin. Batteries can also 

be left on the desk in 

yourroom or handed 

in at the reception. 

2Turn the water 

off, when brushing 

your teeth, 

and limit your showers 

to 3 minutes. 

3Turn off all lamps, 

TV and radio when 

leaving the room. 

4Even though 

our bathroom 

products are 

100% organic and biodegradable, 

and are 

responsible for 0% micro-plastic 

in our seas, 

we still request that you 

don´t overuse them, as 

over-dosage and overuse 

is one of the major 

pollut¬ants in the world 

today. We have a strong 

focus on not over-using 

our cleaning products 

as well, even though 

they live up to the same 

strict standards as the 

rest of our products.

please turn off the heating 

when opening windows.

or less everything! 

Plastic bags that 

you leave behind are 

folded and packaged for 

re-use by other guests; 

books and magazines 

that you leave behind 

are brought to the lobby

others. Pens, pads and 

pencils are happily reused 

in reception and 

back-office, and since 

many bottles and cans 

are in a “return” system 

in Denmark, where 

they get washed and 

re-used as they are, we 

make sure to return the 

ones you leave behind. 

So no need to fill up the 

trash can with all your 

leftovers, our scavenging 

tendencies are more 

easily met when we 

can see what´s what.

IN THE QUEEN’S BACKYARD 

Babette Guldsmeden is the first Copenhagen hotel 

outside what has traditionally been our comfort 

zone of Vesterbro. We´re loving it here, the location 

is just as unique in a completely different way. 

The building, with all its charming nooks and 

crannies is a pleasure to be in, and we´re very 

proud of the orangerie in particular, linking the 

two parts of the house. The courtyard to the back 

is a little oasis, and with the coloured strings of 

lights, comfy couches, and mini wall-mounted 

fireplaces, it´s a wonderful place to unwind.

Our lovely boutique Oslo-hotel 

joined the Guldsmeden Hotels family in 2010 

ythis house very quickly became a 

favourite of ours and of our regular guests. For some 

reason that we can´t quite define, Guldsmeden and 

the people of Norway have a very special connection 

– and we do believe that it shows in the relaxed 

and warm atmosphere of the Oslo Guldsmeden. 

The entire lower floor is given over to the café 

and lounge area, and its cosy comfiness is like a 

warm hug when you come in from the cold! In the 

summertime, the long and light Nordic evenings 

beckon you to explore the vibrant neighbourhood 

before returning home to a good night´s sleep.

All Guldsmeden Hotels are non-smoking indoors. In case 

your room has a balcony, you´re welcome to smoke out 

there, as long as you keep the doors to your room closed. Or 

even better, join us in our courtyards, we love the company!

name is Eyja Guldsmeden. 

This lovely hotel 

is a modern former 

office building, and 

therefore quite different 

from most of our other 

buildings, which are 

typically turn-of-thecentury 

European, and 

we were very excited 

to see how our messy 

bohemian style and unstructured 

maximalism 

would translate into 

a modern, more gritty 

environment – and 

we´re happy to say that 

the operation was a 

success! Eyja couldn´t 

have turned out better – 

the classic Guldsmeden 

design touches thrive 

with a more modern 

approach, and Eyja is 

a lovely example of the 

natural progression of 


style that happens 

with each new house!

Hotel Guldsmeden, named after the street where it 

all began, our street - Guldsmedgade - which used 

to house a number of goldsmiths and jewellers. 

When we opened the doors in 1999, we had 15 

rooms and no experience in how to run a hotel! 

But loads and loads of warm hostmanship and 

enthusiasm to make up for it. We´ve since expanded 

to 27 rooms, and become a little more

An eye for an 

eye makes the 

world blind 

Vesterbro 

Vesterbro is one of the coolest areas in the Danish 

capital, and has been named as one of the 

foremost hipster neighbourhoods on the planet. 

Formerly an infamous red-light, working-class 

neighbourhood, Vesterbro´s turnaround began 

with the transformation of the old cattle market 

Øksnehallen into a light and stylish exhibition hall. 

The whole area around Øksnehallen, the former 

meatpacking district, is now completely re-invented 

and abuzz with amazing restaurants, nightclubs, 

galleries, cafés, green oases and much more – while 

still maintaining its gritty & urban rockń´roll feel. 

Along Vesterbrogade and Istedgade, you will 

also find plenty of bars, restaurants, and designer 

stores. And don´t miss Vesterbro´s own food 

street, Frenchy Værnedamsvej – a gourmet’s 

paradise with specialist cheese, wine, fish and

as possible, as slowly as possible. In fact, the polar 

opposite of conventional farming. Our animals 

grow slowly and live happily, they are

Oslo itself is a wonderful city, there´s so much to 

do, and so much fun to be had, for the whole family, 

winter or summer alike. The best of city life, with 

great shopping, restaurants and art galleries is just 

minutes away from amazing outdoor activities. 

Oslo Guldsmeden is ideally located close to the 

most popular newly developed areas of Oslo, 

Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen, and only a few 

minutes´ walk from the Royal Palace and the 

Nationaltheatret train station. Only a few minutes´ 

walk from Oslo Guldsmeden, Aker Brygge 

is a buzzing urban waterfront with lots of 

dining and shopping options, and a great place 

for simply wandering around and enjoying life. 

Neighbouring Tjuvholmen is the newest of Oslo’s 

boroughs. The area is characterized by architectural 

diversity and unique outdoor areas, and is host 

to art galleries, museums and great restaurants.

The Ø-label is regulated by the Danish and 

Norwegian Ministry of Food & Agriculture, 

and the golden Ø is only given to restaurants 

with a percentage above 90 in 

regards to organic produce. 

We are audited by a representative 

from the Ministry 3 times per year, 

and our most recent score was 99,9%

In Denmark, Aarhus 

is known as the City of 

Smiles, and with good 

reason - there´s such 

a good atmosphere in 

this city, which has traditionally 

always been 

the physical and spiritual 

home to many 

artists, musicians and 

university students. 

Our particular area is 

called the Quartier Latin, 

inspired by Paris, as 

the feel of these streets 

are similar to those of 

our French namesake. 

It´s the oldest area of 

Aarhus, dating back 

around 500 years or

finally come true! This 

city has managed to retain 

its free-wheeling, 

creative spirit while becoming 

a big, multicultural 

metropolis, with 

all the trappings that 

follow naturally. Berlin 

is a friendly bon-vivant,

and local produce. Our 

joy in all the wonderful 

flavours that nature 

has to offer, combined 

with an innate curiosity, 

creates a steady flow 

of culinary surprises, 

always based on the 

fundamental principles 

of sustainability. 

Our restaurants are big 

on flavour - simple and 

abundant, rustic and 

delicious, our menu is 

made up of the highest 

quality organic fresh 

ingredients, lovingly 

grown and bred by a 

number of small and 

mainly local suppliers. 

As is probably evident, 

we REALLY love our 

food – and spend a LOT 

of time sourcing it, cooking 

and tasting it, and 

enjoying it… And with 

that food love comes a 

reluctance to throw any 

of it out. So we have 

asked around, collected 

knowledge and ideas, 

and perfected a number

Our in-house restaurant is a testament to our deep and abiding love for food. We’re always hungry!

Dice the bread in small 

pieces, and sprinkle with

3 x 15 minutes, mixing 

it with a spoon every 

15 minutes until it´s 

very crunchy. Let cool. 

Mix the nuts with the

the military. There´s an amazing 

view from the top of the Kastellet

Can’t get enough of running? 

A very popular running route 

is around the iconic Copenhagen 

lakes, open-air outdoor in 

urban nature. The full route 

round the lakes is 6,4 km., 

but if you run out of steam 

halfway through, there´s 

lots of cosy pit stops along 

the way where you can get 

a coffee, a smoothie, a sandwich 

or whatever else your 

heart and stomach desire. 

The lake route also leads to 

an outdoor training facility 

in-between the last set 

of lakes, located on a street 

named Fredensgade. You 

can work with your bodyweight 

only in monkey bars, 

and practice your cross-fit skills. 

if you´re looking for something 

a tiny bit more hilly 

(Denmark is known for being 

one of the flattest countries 

in the world), you could 

run by the Ørsteds-park. Just 

5 minutes from the lakes, 

this park is one of the loveliest 

small fairy-tale places

which is such a big part 

of Danish society, and

OUR ART 

Original art has always 

played an important 

part in creating the atmosphere

Marc Weinert, as well 

as being the architect 

and visual designer of 

the Guldsmeden Hotels, 

comes from an artistic 

background. His father 

Knud Weinert´s paintings 

and collages can be 

found throughout the 

hotels - side by side with 

pieces by established and 

up-and-coming artists, 

as well as Indone-sian 

antiques. In 2014 we 

acquired a handful of 

wonderful paintings by 

Spanish-born Bali resident 

Mersuka Dopazo 

Gascón, that light up 

the rooms and hallways 

at Babette Guldsmeden. 

And most recently, we

artist Hans Oldau Krull, 

who will create a number 

of his striking and

1. Turn off all lights in empty rooms. 

2. Turn off heating when windows are open 

and then set radiator at 2. 

3. Sort paper, cardboard and glass for the 

respective trash bins. 

4. Check that bed & kitchen linen and towels 

are used before sending to wash. 

5. Make sure that you use the correct dosage 

of cleaning products. 

6. Fill trash bags full up, to use as few as possible. 

7. Reuse trash bag in room, if possible. 

8. Never throw our things that still work – 

pens left in rooms etc. 

9. Never let the water run unnecessarily. 

Turn off taps when possible during cleaning. 

10. All magazines and carrier bags left in 

rooms are to be collected in the lobby, for 

use by other guests. 

11. Always report dripping taps or running 

toilets, so we don´t waste water. 

12. Only use tumble dryer when necessary.
