Mothers Union The Branch members thank Velma for hosting an afternoon tea for us which realised a total of £61.50. We would also like to thank everyone who came to our Strawberry Tea giving us a resultant profit of £122.30. This means that we can boost the “Mothers Union Summer of Hope Appeal” by the sum of £183.80 giving Christian Care to Families Worldwide. There will NOT be a branch meeting during August but we will regroup on 4th September. Townswomen’s Guild The next Finedon Townswomen's Guild meeting is at 7.30 on Thursday 2nd August in the Town Hall. The speaker is Stuart Elsom whose talk is entitled 'Charismatic Cuba'. The competition is for a small wooden item. For the social half-hour there will be an 'I made it' display of items by guild members. For any non-members who wish to attend there is a small charge of £3. You will be made very welcome. Finedon Local History Society The August meeting will be a talk by Kevin Varty entitled “Dead and buriedbut not for long”. The evening will be on Monday 20th August 2018 in the Mission Room, Well Street Finedon at 7.30 pm. Admission is £2.50 for members and £3.50 for non members, light refreshments will be served afterwards. All are welcome. Please note change of Monday due to the Bank Holiday. Shops Exhibition The shops exhibition is now closed but is available to view on Tuesday mornings between 10.00am and 12.00 noon. ST MARY’S CHURCH FLOWER FESTIVAL 14 TH , 15 TH AND 16 TH SEPTEMBER The theme for this year’s flower festival is – “Lots to be thankful for” and it will be held on Friday 14 th September – 2pm – 5pm Saturday 15 th September – 10am – 6.00pm Sunday 16 th September – 11am – 4.30pm Over the years many individuals and organisations have given their time and talents to ensure that the festival is successful and the flower festival committee are very grateful for all the support they receive. We are looking for help during the weekend with refreshments/stalls/stewards etc. We also welcome contributions to our raffle, tombola, preserves and cakes. If you feel you can help in any way this year please speak to Christine (01933 398818) or any member of the committee.
Finedon Volta Football Team My name is Kevin Tobin and three and half years ago Sid Miller and I took over the Finedon Volta, then U10s. We both had played the game and Sid had managed at an adult level for many years but this was a new adventure for us both. The team had a great bunch of talented boys and a young lady, all enthusiastic and wanting to learn much more about the beautiful game. That is where Sid and I stepped in and set off on our journey. Win, lose or draw all the kids came off the pitch with a massive smile. We lost much more than we won but that wasn’t a problem when you’re teaching such great kids. Through the years we started to learn and understand different parts of the game like stretching before training and matches and controlling the ball. Fitness was important. Last year we moved up to 11 aside for the first time playing home games at the amazing Finedon Rec, what daunting but great opportunity to show off our skills to the public of Finedon. We signed on 17 kids, 7 who have been part of the team from the age of 5. We started with 3 friendly games losing all 3 but if you think that would get our little superstars down then you’ve never been more wrong. We ended the 2017/18 season second (promoted from division 3) winning 10 games and losing just 4, keeping 7 clean sheets along the way. Presentation day at the rec was one fantastic day and celebration for these Finedon Volta legends in the making. Through all the tough times not one kid has ever left our team for another football team which makes Sid and I feel proud and makes every hour spent with these little treasures worth it. Finedon Over 60’s We meet weekly on Wednesdays from 1.45 pm to 3.30 pm in the Bowls Club, Wellingborough Road. Admission £1.00 per week plus raffle. We have speakers, bingo, entertainment, occasionally Bring & Buy and much more. August Programme 1st Beetle Drive 8th Charles Taylor’s Workshop 15th Margaret Hughes armchair exercise 22nd Hoy 29th Afternoon at the races All welcome, just turn up, no joining costs Church Monthly Draw The results of the July church monthly draw are as follows: Total receipts of £242.00 are divided equally between the winners and the church funds. Winning numbers for the April monthly draw are: 1st prize 288 £60.50 2nd prize 120 £36.30 3rd prize 275 £24.20 If you would like to join the monthly draw (£1.00 per share per month) which takes place in the church on the first Sunday of the month, please contact Kathy Hobbs on 01933 398794.
