S-G Owners Association. All residents are welcome to use the amenities at all locations. To sign up for Stone Gate amenities, residents of Canyon
Lakes West and/or Miramesa must go to the Recreation Center at Stone Gate and show them a copy of their driver’s license to show proof of
residency and then they can register there. The two recreation centers are on different computer systems and in order to use the Stone Gate
amenities, residents must sign up on their system and vice versa. Canyon Lakes West and Miramesa are on the same computer system, so you only
have to sign up at one or the other, not both.

batteries or 3- ring binders). Truck leaves at 3 PM so be sure to arrive
early. Event is on a first come first serve basis as time allows. Please be
courteous to other residents and keep your shredding to a reasonable
amount so everyone has a chance to use this service.

Pool Food & Beverage
As a reminder, there is no food allowed in the pool gates. Please
only bring personal meals, such as bagged lunches, Lunchables,
single-serving, individually-wrapped snacks (goldfish, gummy
bears, fruit snacks, etc.)
No fast food, pizza or BBQ.
Coolers are limited to personal sized, carry-able coolers (either
able to be carried in hand or on the shoulder with a strap. No rolling
ice chests.) No 2-liter drinks or large drinks will be permitted.

Itch, Ouch, Scratch, It’s Bug Season
Whether you’re attacked while working in the garden, enjoying a picnic
in the park or lounging by the pool, bug bites and stings are an inevitable
summer annoyance. At best, bites and stings can be uncomfortable for a
few days; at worst, they can be a serious, life-threatening hazard.
Here are some tips on how to relieve the itch or sting and when to know
if you should seek medical attention:
If the bite or sting is mildly painful or itchy, apply over-the-counter
medication that contains Benadryl or cortisone for topical relief. Other
home remedies, like applying a paste made from baking soda and water,
dabbing on ammonia with a cotton ball, soaking in oatmeal baths or
even applying toothpaste to the site may also provide relief.
Whatever you do, don’t scratch. This can cause an infection and leave a
scar. And it won’t relieve the itch or sting.
If you feel faint, nauseous, dizzy or disoriented or if you experience rapid
heartbeat, difficulty breathing or your lips, tongue or throat swell, call
911 immediately and get medical attention. These symptoms indicate a
severe allergy to the insect’s venom. Administer an Epi-pen (injectable
epinephrine) if one is available and administer CPR if symptoms worsen
before emergency personnel arrive. After the episode, follow up with a
physician who can determine an allergy prevention treatment.
Stay alert for delayed symptoms around the bite or sting, like redness or
swelling, which could indicate an infection or other condition. And see
a doctor right away if you have a headache, fever or joint pain within a
few days of being bitten. Some insects, like ticks and mosquitoes, can
infect their victims with serious, flulike illnesses, such as Rocky Mountain
spotted fever, Lyme disease and West Nile virus, which only a physician
can diagnose and treat.
Most important, use insect repellant when outdoors and wear lightweight,
light-colored clothing over arms, legs and feet to keep insects off
your skin. And avoid wearing perfume and fragrances, which can attract
bugs.

Cart Path Safety
Please be aware of the safety hazards involved in trespassing onto
the Sterling Country Club and Houston National cart paths and golf
course. The cart paths on both courses are only for golfers that have
registered through our Pro Shop. Cart paths are a means for players
to complete their round of golf as quickly, conveniently and safely as
possible. As the Stone Gate community continues to grow we feel
it is our responsibility to educate every resident as best we can to
keep pedestrians and their pets safe and away from the cart paths.
Golf balls are often hit at speeds over 150 mph and can have deadly
consequences to a human or pet if hit in the head, throat or chest.
Because the paths are for registered golfers, those playing golf are not

the cart paths is strictly prohibited on the basis of safety hazard and

This is a reminder…. The operation of motorized vehicles (ATV’s, dirt
bikes, golf carts, etc.) other than mowing equipment on pathways or
trails maintained by the Association or any other Common Area within
the community is not allowed.
According to the Texas department of public safety:
• ATV’s are not allowed on a street and an operator crossing a street must
have a valid driver’s license.
• Golf carts are allowed on roads, but must obey all traffic laws including
speed limits. If operated on a road the golf cart must have a license plate
and the driver must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance.
• Mopeds and motor assisted scooters are treated as regular bicycles. All
vehicles used on roads must obey traffic laws including stop signs and

Be Courteous And Respectful
Please be considerate of the differences in lifestyles between neighbors,
such as family situations (small children, teenagers, retired, elderly,
professionals and students), different work and sleep schedules and
whether they are comfortable with pets or not.
Noise
Be courteous - keep the noise to an acceptable level. Complaints about
excessive noise can come from loud music, outdoor activities, early
morning lawn mowers and guests coming or going during late night or
early morning hours.
Tennis Courts
The Association kindly asks that residents refrain from using the tennis
courts for anything other than playing tennis. Playing basketball, football
and/or other activities can cause damage to the tennis courts making it
unavailable for other residents to use and creating costly repairs.
Keep our Lakes Clean
Please help us keep our community beautiful by NOT THROWING trash

Street Trees & Tree Stakes
It is a good time to review the trees on your property and undertake
trimming and maintenance, as necessary. Remember to give special
attention to your street trees, those that are situated between the
sidewalk and road. As live oaks mature, their branches have a tendency
to dip down towards the ground and their canopy needs to be thinned
and trimmed. The canopy of street trees needs to be pruned to ensure
that the branches do not impede passing traffic. Unused tree stakes
should also be removed, as they can become unsightly.
Reminder about Basketball Goals
Basketball is a fun sport that many like to play. As a reminder, please
make sure that all basketball goals are kept in an upright position in your
driveway. Basketball goals should not be left in the street at anytime.
Leaving basketball goals in the street can be a nuisance to drivers in
the community and a hazard should there be a need for an emergency
vehicle to gain access to your street. Please note this is also a violation
and if you receive violation letters regarding this matter you could be
sent to the attorney and be liable for these charges.

Oil Stain Clean Up
1. Clean up any fresh oil stains by blotting the surface with newspaper.
2. Sprinkle a layer of clay-based cat box litter over the top of the oil stain.
You want to completely cover the stain so that you can no longer see it
through the litter. The litter will soak up the oil from the concrete.
3. Monitor the color of the litter several times while it is sitting on the
stain. As the oil becomes absorbed into the litter, it will change to a
darker color. When the litter changes colors, remove the old litter by
sweeping it up with a broom. Dispose of the discolored litter as you did
the oil-soaked newspapers. Sprinkle more litter onto the stain the same
way you did in the prior step and continue to let it soak up the oil. Leave
the stain covered with litter for a minimum of one day. Clean away all the
litter after 24 hours. Sweep up the litter and dispose of it.
4. Apply a liquid dish detergent with grease-cutting agents to the oil
stain. Use a scrub brush to rub the detergent into the stain.
5. Allow the detergent to settle for five minutes, then scrub the detergent
into the stain again using short, circular movements.
6. Poor 1 cup of boiling water on to the dish detergent covered stain. Use
your scrub brush to rub the water and soap into the stain. Take care not
to burn yourself.
7. Blot up the now oily and soapy water with newspaper after the mixture
has cooled for several minutes. Dispose of the newspaper. Continue to
blot the area until you have absorbed all of the oily water.
8. Pour another 2 cups of boiling water over the stain. This will wash
away any oily water that was not absorbed by the newspaper. Be careful
not to burn yourself. If the stain is still present, repeat the process.

Deed Restriction Reminders
TREES: Dead trees and/or missing trees are a violation of your deed
restrictions. If tree stakes are not attached to the tree or if the ties are
an inch or two into the tree - they need to be removed. Thank you for
helping to keep our community a beautiful place to live!
FISHING IN THE LAKES: Not permitted at any time. Please refrain from
this activity.
TRASH CANS: Please be sure to keep all garbage in a proper receptacle
with a securable lid to prevent pets and/or wind from creating a mess in
our community. Trash cans must also be kept sanitary and out of public/
street view in-between trash pickup days. Residents are permitted to
set their trashcan(s) out after 6 PM the evening before their respective
trash pickup days, but they must be out of public/street view the same
day of pickup. The Association would also like to remind residents not to
litter. Please join our efforts in keeping Stone Gate, Canyon Lakes West
and Miramesa a beautiful place to live by disposing of your trash in the
proper waste receptacles.

Littering Hurts us All
Neighborhood appearance is a major concern when choosing a new
home. Trash bins left on the street, vehicles in disrepair, yards left
unattended all contribute the image we project as Stone Gate, Canyon
Lakes West and Miramesa residents. Take a look around your property
and see if there’s anything you could do to improve things. If you have
a neighbor who is struggling to keep up with the physical demands of
home ownership, see if you can help without sounding critical. One
gesture will surely lead to another and we will all benefit. This is what
neighborhoods are all about.
LET US KEEP OUR NEIGHBORHOODS LITTER FREE!
Take responsibility for yourself & be a good neighbor! Keep our streets &
neighborhood trash & litter free! Make it a habit, be a good neighbor & do
your part! If each person did their own part (around the outside of their
home including their little stretch of street in front of their house), what
a better place this would be to live! A clean environment/neighborhood
makes people feel good about themselves. Some residents keep it clean.
Some need to be reminded. Others need to be continually reminded. It
takes time to change habits. Keeping your neighborhood clean is a habit
that takes conscious effort.
Pets
Good dog-walking etiquette means picking up the poop after your dog
is finished. This is as simple as taking a plastic grocery bag, turning it
inside out and placing your hand inside and using the bag as a plastic
glove, then turn the bag back out and take the bag with you where you
can dispose of it properly. That’s the courteous thing to do.
Don’t get caught without extra poop bags, particularly if you’re going on
a long walk. (P.S. This is a great way to recycle all those plastic grocery
bags!)
Please Control Your Pets!
It is a deed restriction violation if your pets are not confined to a fenced
backyard or within your home. They must not be allowed to bark all
night or cause a nuisance to your neighbors. They must also be on a
leash at all times when not in a contained environment. It is also the pet
owner’s responsibility to keep ALL areas of the community FREE from pet
debris when walking your pets. Please remember that cats must also be
confined. Animal Control can be reached at 281-999-3191.
If you happen to come across vicious dogs or ANY loose dogs of this
nature, please contact your local Animal Control at 281-999-3191. If
you are familiar with the property address the pets belong to, please
feel free to submit that information to PMG, Michael Graves mgraves@
pmghouston.com, to pursue the deed restriction violation. Notification
and ample time must be given to the owner to correct the violation prior
to any further pursuit by the Association.
Remember that all pets should always wear a collar with ID tag! Pet
owners should also consider pet microchips for identification in case
your pet looses their collar/ID tag.

Street Parking
We have received numerous complaints from residents about people
parking in the streets. Please be advised that the S-G Owners Association
will begin placing orange violation stickers on vehicles that are in
violation of the parking policy. Per the Parking Policy, vehicles may
only be parked on the street during daylight hours, when the driveway
can hold no additional vehicles. This does include your guests/nanny,
babysitter, home healthcare provider, etc. Commercially marked larger
vehicles like; Comcast, AT&T, Entouch, landscaper, etc., may park in front
of the home they are providing a service call for, if this is the homeowner’s
vehicle, it may not be stored in the community. In addition, no overnight
parking is permitted. Towing will be enforced in the gated sections. We
encourage you to ensure that your vehicles are properly parked and/or
make proper parking arrangements. We thank you for your cooperation
and understanding. The Owners Association understands there may be
extenuating circumstances which arise from time to time, please contact

Back To School Expo 2018
In its sixth edition, the annual CFISD Back-to-School Expo is scheduled for
Saturday, August 18 th from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Berry Center (8877 Barker
Cypress Road). The Expo provides a number of helpful resources to incoming
students, parents and prospective employees, allowing for a smooth transition
into the school district.

The Year
Dr. Mark Henry, superintendent of schools
for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, has been named
the 2018 Region 4 Superintendent of the
Year and will serve as the region’s nominee
for the Texas Superintendent of the Year
program, sponsored by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).
The Texas Superintendent of the Year will be announced at the 2018
TASA/TASB Convention, to be held Sept. 28-30, 2018 in Austin.
Dr. Henry was nominated by the CFISD Board of Trustees in recognition
of his outstanding and visionary leadership toward improving student
performance in CFISD, which is the third-largest district in Texas.
During his seven-year tenure, CFISD has earned recognition and praise
for its academics, college and career readiness programs, community
engagement, fiscal management and athletics.
Dr. Henry has been praised by the CFISD Board of Trustees for his
servant leadership, which included being an integral part of obtaining
and guiding resources to assist the CFISD community during and after
Hurricane Harvey. Under his leadership, the district served as a point of
safety and relief to many impacted by the devastating event.
Dr. Henry’s vision is the tenet of CFISD’s goal to provide the best possible
education and service to all students in the district, with his commitment
to excellence seen in various CFISD accomplishments, which include:
100 percent of the district’s campuses earning a “Met Standard”
rating for five consecutive years since 2012; ranking No. 1 for financial
performance for seven consecutive years among the 200 largest districts
in Texas by the Education Resource Group; receiving a five-star rating
from TXSmartSchools for academic progress and cost-effective financial

management for seven consecutive years; successful passing of a $1.21
billion bond referendum, the largest such election in district history;
creation of the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD police department; fostering
community partnerships that have brought the district $14 million in
school donations last year and developing successful academic programs
for students needing additional assistance in math and reading.
“Dr. Mark Henry is well respected by his colleagues, staff and community
and serves as a courageous voice for students and for public education,”
said Dr. Pam Wells, Region 4 Education Service Center executive director.
“The district’s successes reflect his personal and passionate belief that
the mission of public schools is to provide equality of opportunity for all
students. We congratulate Dr. Henry for this well-deserved recognition and
wish him the best in his nomination for Texas Superintendent of the Year.”
A Message From The Cfisd

Dear Parents & Guardians,
As promised in a message I sent toward the end of the school year, our
district safety and security committee has already begun meeting to plan
for the 2018-2019 school year.
In an effort to improve the safety measures currently in place, one of the
decisions that came out of our meetings is to require all high school and
middle school students to use clear backpacks beginning in the fall.
Band and athletic bags, as well as drill and cheer team bags, will still be
permitted.
Additionally, the maximum purse size permitted in grades 6-12 will be
6” x 9.”
Elementary school students will be allowed to continue using traditional
backpacks.
Listed below are the details about these new policies and can also be
found on a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page on our district website.
We are living in a difficult time requiring difficult decisions from school

districts. While these changes present an inconvenience to our students
and parents, we must continue to be vigilant to protect the safety of our
students and staff.
The safety and security committee will continue to meet throughout
the summer. Further plans and decisions will be communicated to the
community as soon as possible.

Cfisd Clear Backpack Policy
CLEAR BACKPACK FAQ:
Are elementary students required to use clear backpacks?
No, this policy is in place for grades 6-12 (middle school and high school)
only.
Are mesh backpacks allowed?
No. Mesh backpacks are not allowed.
Students are permitted to only use clear
backpacks.
Can the backpack have mesh pockets?
Yes. Mesh side pockets are allowed on the
backpack (see example).
Will backpacks with padded backs be accepted? (see
example) No.
Are transparent colored backpacks allowed?
No. Colored, transparent backpacks are not allowed (see example). Only
fully clear backpacks.
Are stripes allowed to be on the
backpack?
No. Stripes in any location are not
allowed on the backpack.
Can the backpack have colored straps?
Yes. The backpack may have colored straps.
Can multiple 6x9 bags be carried in schools?
No, students will be asked to limit belongings carried outside of backpacks
to one 6x9 purse or similar bag.
Are leather reinforcements on the corners of the backpacks allowed?
Yes, leather reinforcements on the corners are permitted.
Are company or trademarked logos allowed
on the front of the backpack?
Small company logos are allowed, but large
logos, monograms or other visual design
obstructions are not.
Will athletic/spirit bags and instrument cases, which are not clear, be
allowed on campus? Yes. However, these bags must be stored as soon as the
student arrives at school. They must be placed in lockers or secured in Fine
Arts classrooms or athletic locker rooms as designated by their instructors.
Are lunch boxes permitted? Yes, non-clear lunch boxes are permitted to be
carried within the backpacks.
Are students allowed to have laptop sleeves in their backpack, or are
they required to carry the laptop sleeve separately? Yes, laptop sleeves
will be permitted in backpacks.
What are the size specifications for the backpack? There are no size
specifications.
But isn’t this an invasion of privacy?
We understand the concern with the privacy of certain items contained
within backpacks. Students will be permitted to carry such items in a small
makeup pouch within the backpack or a small purse, sized 6 inches by 9
inches.

Holders Season Ticket Renewals
This year’s season tickets and weekly football game tickets will be sold
through Etix, lnc. Last year’s season ticket holders will have the first
option to renew season tickets. Renewal instructions and a link from Etix
were emailed by July 20 th to previous ticket holders.
Season Ticket Renewal Period: July 23 rd - August 3 rd until 4 PM. Season
ticket holders may renew, add, remove or relocate to current available
seats during the renewal period (July 23 rd - August 3 rd ) NO REFUNDS OR
EXCHANGES.

We are looking for goalkeepers for our 2007 boys and 2007 girls teams
for the 2018-2019 season. If you are interested and/or looking for a team

Kids’ Running Team Registration
Starts September 4th
The Northwest Flyers Track Club Youth Cross Country Team kicks off the
fall season with a mandatory orientation meeting for parents and athletes
on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 6:30 PM at the D. Bradley McWilliams
YMCA at Cypress Creek outdoor pavilion, 19915 TX-249, Houston, TX.
Registration starts online September 1 st at www.northwestflyers.org.
Practices are held at the YMCA and at Spring Creek Park in Tomball.
The Northwest Flyers Track Club is a member program of USA Track
and Field (USATF), the national governing body for track and cross
country. The club is celebrating its 31 st year in the northwest Houston
area. Ages 6-18 may participate in the team and both beginners and
experienced runners are welcome. Middle school and high school
cross country athletes can also register, but should compete after their
school cross country season is over. For more information contact Coach

Fall Soccer Sign Ups
Registration for Fun, Fair, Positive Soccer (FFPS) is open for boys and girls
ages 4 to 18 for the fall Season. Games start on October 6, 2018. FFPS
is a non-profit youth soccer program dedicated to providing a positive
youth sports experience for all children. Founded in 1986 in Katy, Texas,
FFPS has grown to 22 leagues and 16,000 players throughout the Greater
Houston area. FFPS offers children a fun and fair experience, including
one practice per week, a full uniform and trophy for every player, equal
playing time and play every position, co-ed/balanced teams, positive
coaching and more. No tryouts are required.

(jersey, shorts and socks), trophy, trained positive coaches, nice fields

Bayou City Art Festival Downtown
The Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA) will celebrate 47 years of fine art
and giving back to local non-profits as it spotlights 300 artists at Bayou
City Art Festival in Downtown Houston, Saturday and Sunday, October

The sophisticated gallery will transform the streets of Downtown into
artistic avenues bursting with colors and culture. As one of the top
outdoor fine art festivals in the U.S., the weekend festival will provide

benefit local non-profits and feature live music in front of City Hall and

Through September 3 rd - The most anticipated food event of the year,
Houston Restaurant Weeks. That’s 34 days of meals and deals raising money
for The Houston Food Bank. More than 250 area restaurants are expected to
participate by serving specially priced multi-course prix fixe menus that include
brunch, lunch and dinner. Diners can visit www.HoustonRestaurantWeeks.com
to view the ever-growing list of restaurants that have committed to participate
in the fundraiser, along with their Houston Restaurant Weeks menus. From fine
dining to casual neighborhood restaurants, diners can sample some of the

August 25 th - The AIA SandCastle Competition is a fund-raising event for
AIA Houston and ArCH Foundation as well as one of the top five revenue
generating events for the City of Galveston. This year over 60 teams have their
eyes and shovels set on winning the prestigious Golden Bucket Award. Firms
begin months in advance generating ideas, developing designs and assigning
duties. On the day of the event the teams, stretched along the beach front,
meticulously sculpt their piles of sand and work non-stop for five hours. The
judging of the sculptures is rated on originality of concept, artistic execution,
technical difficulty, carving technique and utilization of the site. In addition
to the Golden Bucket, awards are given in several categories including Best
Traditional Castle, Best Architectural Icon, Kidtastic! - Disney Edition, Best
Cinematic, Best Meme and Houston-centric as well as best team t-shirt design,
best team signage, best costume and public favorite. At the end of the day,
everyone goes home with memories of a great day at the beach filled with fun,

Through August 26 th - “The Faces of Syrian Refugees,” by photographer
Michael S Cohen, consists of life sized color portraits accompanied by Proust
questionnaire style interviews, offering an intimate visit with 20 Syrian
refugees. The exhibition will also include a special feature of Houston-area
Holocaust survivors Naomi Warren, Lea Weems, Ruth Steinfeld, Anna and
Emil Steinberger, Bill Orlin and Renee Danziger, who thrived after being
one-time refugees in America. After a 25-year hiatus, Cohen worked with a
dozen non-profits in fields ranging from education, to felon rehabilitation
in inner city youth. During this time, he watched with horror as a Syrian
war escalated and the refugee crisis reached unimaginable proportions.
An idea formed to travel and meet successfully resettled Syrian refugees,
photograph and interview them. Since the war began in 2011, millions
of Syrians have been displaced from their homes, and their country. The
subjects come from all walks of life and now are engaged in everything from
teaching art classes to volunteering as museum docents to conducting a
Syrian expat orchestra. During the atrocities of WWII, Holocaust survivors
were uprooted from their homelands and resettled in other countries. More
than one half of all European Jews perished by the end of WWII; many who
survived picked up the pieces of their shattered lives and moved forward. A
special feature will be included in this exhibition depicting the images and
stories of several local Holocaust survivors upon their arrival in Houston
prior to 1955 and how they worked hard to achieve the American dream.
The exhibition is on view through Sunday, August 26, 2018, in the Mincberg
