Rummage sale raises money for Taft extracurriculars
Rochelle McAuliffe
Freelance Reporter
Practicing fiscal responsibility
within school districts
isn’t anything new to
schools across the state, but
what happens when a school
still faces harsh budget cuts
despite responsible spending?
This has been the reality
at Taft School in District 90
for the last decade. Despite
careful planning and budgeting,
the single-school district
still faced the dismantling of
its extracurriculars nearly
five years ago. To fill in the
gaps, parents and teachers
had to get creative to help
give students the opportunities
they deserve.
Taft School hosted its third
annual rummage sale Friday,
Aug. 3, and Saturday, Aug.
4, to help benefit the Taft
Foundation, a nonprofit organization
that raises money
for the school through sponsorship
and events.
Whether it was gently used
clothing, appliances, gadgets
or even art, there was a hidden
gem for all who shopped
the sale, and it all went to a
worthwhile cause.
“We’re a smaller district
in D90, so we need more
funding to keep things going,”
said Janelle Stotler,
chairwoman of the rummage
sale. “Events like this
help to keep the Foundation
funded so they can continue
to run extracurricular programs.”
Taft School, first known
as South Lockport School,
opened in 1909 and has
since offered the residents
of southwest Lockport with
a quality education. During
the last decade, the burdens
of an aging building and
lack of support from corporate
sponsors has made
finances for opportunities
other Lockport students
have sparse.
To help bridge the gap,
the Taft Foundation was
founded in 2008 to fund
sports, music and extracurriculars,
and to provide
necessary equipment and
needed technology for Taft
students. In the last 10
years, the Foundation has
helped to raise more than
$100,000 for extracurricular
programs that would otherwise
go unfunded through
fundraisers and events.
“We worked our [rear
ends] off to get a referendum
passed, but the state
never came through with the
money,” said Nicole Lane,
Taft School PTA president
and newly appointed school
board member. “It was really
disappointing because we
thought we were all set. Every
single one of these kids
knows that if we don’t work
hard, they won’t have band.
They won’t have choir. They
won’t have sports, and a lot
of benefits and activities other
schools have. The parents
push hard and work hard to
give our kids what students
at other schools take for
granted.
“We have kids and parents
[who] volunteer together
here, and most of the time
we have alumni that come
back as well. It’s like a family.
The kids come to help
because they want to help.
We usually don’t have to ask
twice if we put the word out
for volunteers.”
Jessica Mueller and her
brother Max are just two of
many alumni who returned
to their former school to pay
it forward before beginning
the school year as freshmen
at Lockport Township High
School.
“I feel so great helping
with the rummage sale, because
this is still my school,”
Jessica Mueller said. “I’ve
Foundation’s annual rummage sale held at Taft school. Photos by Mary Compton/22nd
been here ever since I was
little and with school leave I
have so many memories of
all my friends and teachers. I
just want those memories to
continue on to the future generations
of students here.”
Averi Colella, a sixthgrader
who was volunteering
with her mother, participates
in basketball, softball,
band and theater. She said
Taft is “a wonderful school
that needs money.”
The feeling of pride in
their former school is what
drives former students to
carry on the school’s legacy.
“I’m a graduate here. I
have had seven nieces and
nephews that went to this
school, with two graduating.
My kids are here,” Lane
explained with tears in her
eyes. “My parents did it for
me. I’m passing on down
the line to my children. We
just do what we have to do.
It’s a big family here to raise
money for the kids.”
The Taft Foundation’s
Ninth Annual Golf Outing
at Big Run Golf Course is to
take place at 11 a.m. on Sept.
29. Participants can win
prizes for longest putt, longest
drive, closest to the pin
and 50/50. Those interested
Lockport City Council
City approves waste water treatment deal with Homer Glen
Jessie Molloy
Freelance Reporter
The Lockport City Council
appointed a new member
to the Planning & Zoning
Commission and cleared
the final hurdle for Homer
Glen’s long-awaited sanitary
sewer project during its Aug.
1 meeting.
During a brief City Council
meeting, the council voted
unanimously, minus the vote
of absent alderwoman Catherine
Perretta, to approve
Mayor Steve Streit’s appointee
to the Planning & Zoning
Commission. Janine Wheeler,
who lives and owns commercial
property in Lockport,
is to take the place of Jim
Bilotta on the commission.
Bilotta recently relocated to
Frankfort and resigned his
position on the commission.
Wheeler is to complete Bilotta’s
term, which expires on
April 1, 2019.
The Council also voted
unanimously to approve the
Intergovernmental Agreement
between the City, the
Village of Homer Glen, and
the Bonnie Brae Sanitary
District for waste water treatment
services for the soonto-be-constructed
Fiddyment
Creek Sanitary sewer.
Homer Glen has been
working on developing the
project, which is to provide
city water and sanitary sewers
to the area bound by
159th Street and 151st Street
between Gougar Road and
the Glenview Walk Estates
Subdivision, for more than
10 years. The agreement was
approved by both the sanitary
district and the Homer Glen
Village Board on July 25,
and guarantees services for
the sewer by the Bonnie Brae
treatment plant. The Sanitary
District is to bill Homer Glen
for the water treatment and
the Village will be responsible
for billing the appropriate
residents.
With the approval of the
City Council this week, the
agreement is final and construction
in Homer Glen will
be cleared to commence. The
project is to be completed in
2019.
In addition to the intergovernmental
agreement, the
City Council also approved
a purchase for another of
the city’s water treatment facilities
as part of the consent
agenda.
The council voted to approve
a $24,959 purchase of
a replacement heater in the
North Plant’s Gravity Belt
Thickener Room.
According to Public Works
Director Brent Cann, the
equipment in questions is
about 30 years old and was
becoming costly to maintain.
It was deemed more efficient
to replace the machinery
rather than continue with the
repair and maintenance expenses.
The consent agenda also
gave approval to two roadwork
projects. The council
approved a contract for
$107,924 to Christopher
Burke Engineering to provide
professional engineering services
for Phase II of the 2018
Roadway Resurfacing and
Reconstruction project, as
well as a $326,700 contract
with Strand Associates for
design and engineering services
for the East 2nd Street
to East 5th Street Roadway
and Water Main improvements
project.
Cann also discussed an
additional roadwork project
during the Committee of the
Whole Meeting. Given the
cost saving’s the City accumulated
during the early
phases of the State Street
streetscaping project this
summer, Cann proposed adding
an extra segment to the
work for this year.
The project in questions
would be to complete the
streetscaping work on 9th
Street between the railroad
crossing and State Street.
This segment of road is already
being resurfaced in
conjunction with replacing
its water and sewer lines.
Cann and City Administrator
Ben Benson said it makes
sense to do this segment now
as long as the funds are available
so none of the work being
done now would need to
be redone in a year or two,
and residents and businesses
would not have to deal with
multiple periods of construction.
The full streetscaping,
which would allow the section
of road to match the
rest of the project area along
State Street from 8th to 10th
streets and include new curbs
on the portion of road, would
cost $591,000. This figure is
higher than the original estimated
cost of $400,000 to
$450,000, for the project, but
also includes the removal and
replacement of a stone wall
and staircase on the northwest
corner of State and 9th
streets.
There was some debate
Lockport gets its own cryptocurrency
Jacquelyn Schlabach
Assistant Editor
In 1839, just nine years
before the I&M Canal was
built, a local currency called
canal scrip was created in
an effort to act as a form of
credit that promised to become
payable once the canal
was completed.
As part of the
unLOCK:Merging Art & Industry
in Lockport art project,
artist Dylan Fish has
commemorated the canal
scrip in his own way with
the newly released digital
currency, bLOCK coin.
“Essentially, what we’re
trying to do is, we’re trying
to create a cryptocurrency
that can be used locally in
the town of Lockport as simply
as possible,” Fish said.
“And the reason why we’re
doing that is to draw a connection
to, actually this thing
called canal scrip.”
The Gaylord Building received
a $50,000 grant from
the National Endowment for
the Arts last year that has
brought 10 artists to create
works of art for Lockport,
including Fish’s new project.
Executive Director at the
Gaylord Building, Pam Owens,
applied for the grant
last year and was a part of
the jury that selected the
artists whose proposals for
their projects reflected diversity
and had incorporated a
Lockport connection.
“Dylan’s project in particular,
it’s definitely unique of
all the art proposals we had,”
Owens said. “It was one of
the unique ones we had.”
Owens said his project has
a lot of great tie-ins to the
city. She hopes the bLOCK
coin will draw in a younger,
more tech-savvy demographic
than what they normally
attract for programs at
the Gaylord.
“All of us in cultural institutions
are thinking how
can we engage a younger demographic,
and I’m thinking
that’s one of the things that
can do it,” Owens said.
The digital art can be
purchased at the Gaylord
Building, costing $1 for 0.12
bLOCK coin. One coin is
$8.33
There are only 1,848 of
these collectible coins available,
in honor of the year
the I&M Canal was built.
The coins are redeemable
at four businesses in downtown
Lockport: To the Nines
on Ninth, Amazing Fantasy
Books & Comics, Port Noir
and The Gaylord Building.
“We’re hoping that people
will actually go out to these
local stores that are participating,
and whether or not
you actually buy our coins or
buy the product,we’re hoping
it’ll actually just bring
people out to the stores,”
Fish said.
A T-shirt can be purchased
at To the Nines on Ninth, a
mug can be purchased at
Amazing Fantasy Books &
Comics, a collectible shot
glass can be bought at Port
Noir and a tote bag will
be available at The Gaylord
Building, all bearing a
bLOCK coin insignia.
“Our hope is that you’ll
maybe buy a product or two,
and that you will still hold
on to some of the currency
because you’ll have a little
extra left over, and that those
coins will start maybe circulating,”
he said.
Fish also hopes that shops
downtown in the future will
decide to accept bLOCK
coins for other products, he
added.
“We’re not really releasing
our coin in the hopes like
in the long run — I think it’s
unrealistic — that this coin
might become the currency
of Lockport,” Fish said.
“Although, it could, it’s possible,
I think that would be
really awesome if it did. But
the other interesting aspect
of the project in my mind is
that these coins are art, you
know, and they’re collectable
as art.”
The coins can only be purchased
at the Gaylord Building
to incentivise residents
to come downtown Lockport,
view all the other art
from the unLOCK program
and visit the local restaurants
and stores.
“We don’t want people
to just be able to acquire it
from the comfort of their
own home, we want them to
go check out the festival, go
see some of the other art, go
do whatever,” Fish said.
Fish, along with Stefan
Glowacki and Daniel Johnstone
are the team that made
the bLOCK coin come to
life. Johnstone is a mathematician
who created the
digital coin, and Glowacki
helped present and market
the idea.
“It’s been so much work,
you basically need a team
of people to make it happen,
and we’re only three people
and we also have to pay our
rent and live our lives, and
[art] is not the most profitable
thing; in fact, it’s the
opposite of that, so without
these guys this project would
have been impossible to
have done,” Fish said.
Fish is to be hosting a
workshop Tuesday, Aug.
14 at 5 p.m. at Port Noir
for community members to
learn more about how to use
the bLOCK coin.
For updates on the dates
and locations of upcoming
workshops, visit the Gaylord
Building’s Facebook Page.
“I’d like to sort of interact
with the general public, or
like residents around town
who want to engage in the
project,” Fish said. “I’d like
to talk to them about the history
of the area, about what
blockchain technology is,
and like how our project
works, just get people excited
about maybe trying to use
the coin or engage with it.”

United Way opens free library at Fairmont School
Jacquelyn Schlabach
Assistant Editor
In an effort to spread the joy
and importance of reading,
United Way of Will County
Women United opened its
first My Little Free Library
Aug. 1 at Fairmont School in
Lockport.
As part of the Read to Succeed
Program, Women United
aims to increase access
to literature and the capacity
for children to read, which
led them to working with
Fairmont for the last eight
months to get this project —
which allows the community
to take books for free — up
and running.
“With Read to Succeed,
Fairmont is actually one of
the lowest scoring elementary
schools in all of Illinois,”
said Samantha Young,
program manager at United
Way of Will County. “It’s
right here in Will County, we
work only in Will County for
our United Way, so it was the
obvious place for us to start.”
On the morning of Aug. 1,
approximately 15 volunteers
with Women United — a
group of women who work
to build stronger communities
as part of United Way
of Will County — including
Fairmont School Principal
Tamela Daniels and Superintendent
Diane Cepela, came
together to label more than
900 books with the Read
to Succeed logo to fill the
shelves of the little library.
“We’re just very excited
about this opportunity that
United Way Women decided
to choose Fairmont to do this
with,” Daniels said. “We’re
just going to push the reading
again and making sure
our students are exposed to
as much reading as possible,
here at school and at home.
This just opens up that opportunity.
We’re so very grateful
that they chose Fairmont to
actually work with and to
partner with to give the opportunity
to our students and
parents.”
The books available for
free are of all reading levels,
starting from preschool and
read aloud stories, to chapter
books for sixth grade and up.
Cepela said 43 percent of the
student population at Fairmont
is Hispanic, which led
Young to order 300 Spanish
books that are also available
in the library.
“We have a huge Hispanic
population,” Daniels said.
“We have students that are
learning more English proficiency.”
The top of the book shelf,
which also serves as a bench
for children to sit and read on,
says “Toma un libro; comparte
un libro” on the first block
of wood, and below it has the
English translation, “Take a
book; read a book.” All the
books were either donated or
bought by Women United.
“I think [My Little Free
Library] is a great idea,”
Fairmont librarian Brittany
Garrett said. “A lot of our students
don’t really have a big
selection of books at home,
so any kind of free service
that they get to have books is
amazing.”
Garrett said having the My
Little Free Library is encouraging
for students to take the
initiative and read.
“Just having the availability
of books that you can
read and pick up and you can
kind of look through and find
something that you’re interested
in instead of being told,
here take this and read this,”
she said. “I think that is really
encouraging for our kids to
kind of go ahead and read it.”
Michelle Monroe, a firstgrade
teacher at Eichelberger
Elementary School in Plainfield,
was there Aug. 1 to help
label the books and stock the
shelves. She has volunteered
with United Way of Will
County for a decade and recently
wanted to find another
way to help, which led her
to the Read to Succeed Program.
“With me having a passion
for literacy, I thought this was
a great opportunity for me to
get involved in efforts to promote
reading in homes in the
community,” she said.
Young hopes that My Little
Free Library will not only
encourage children to read,
but the parents to read to the
children.
“We do know that if the
parent isn’t reading to the
kid, then the kid is going to
struggle in literacy more,”
she said.
Fairmont School Principal Tamela Daniels hammers in the
My Little Free Library number onto its bench Aug. 1 as
United Way of Will County Women United labeled books
and stocked them shelves on the free library. Jacquelyn
Schlabach/22nd Century Media
The space where the library
is located is right next
to the preschool classroom
and where they also have
English Language Learners
classes. The books can easily
be accessible to parents who
drop off their students.
“We’re really excited to
be able to have this here as a
high-traffic spot for students
and we’ve been grateful for
Diane’s partnership,” Young
said.
The goal is that the free
library can be sustained by
the community by working
together to always make sure
there are books available for
students to have. The Fairmont
Community Center is
to be the next location to have
Premier flooring company, providing custom looks for
hardwood, carpet, tile, stone, vinyl and laminate.
Heather Andreana and Rob O’Connor, owners
the free library.
“[My Little Free Library]
is going to increase their love
for reading, making sure that
they are understanding their
vocabulary, having that understanding
of text that they
are reading, and building that
comprehension,” Daniels
said. “It will help them to be
more solid readers.”
about going forward with
the project, and if the money
would be better spent on
roadwork in other parts of
the city, however Alderman
Darren Deskin and Streit successfully
defended the proposal.
“We’re $1.5 million under
budget on this project already,”
Deskin said. “We’re
not short-changing other
projects by doing this, we’re
getting it done cheaper now
than it will be in a year or
two.”
“Yes, but what if next
year everything is over budget?”
Alderman Jim Petrakos
asked Deskin.
“We don’t know about
next year,” Deskin said. “We
could all be hit by an asteroid
next year!”
Streit agreed that the project
should go forward, stating
that “the money was already
budgeted for this project.”
The city council will vote
for final approval of a contract
with D. Construction at
its August 15 meeting.
Other issues that are to also
appear on the agenda for the
Aug. 15 meeting include the
approval of a contract with
Greenberg Farrow for revising
the Lockport Bicycle and
Pedestrian master plan and
the purchase of new city vehicles.
The bike plan has not been
updated since 2003. The
$40,000 contract would revise
the plan to address developments
that have taken
place in the city as well as the
future work to the Veteran’s
Memorial Trail through the
Will County Forest Preserve.
The City will also be purchasing
five vehicles in the
near future, one Ford pick-up
truck for the Streets Department
at a cost of $34,950,
and four 2018 Ford Police
Interceptors for a total cost of
$120,000.
This will be the second
purchase of police vehicles
approved by the city this year.
While this is usually done
annually in spring, a second
order was needed by September
because of a retooling of
Ford’s assembly lines.
One item which will not
appear on the upcoming
agenda as anticipated is the
rezoning of the hotel property
at 14556 S. Archer Ave. Because
of a conflict between
the property’s current owner
and the Planning & Zoning
Commission over what
work needs to be done before
the property can be rezoned,
Streit and Benson deemed
it appropriate to table the issue
and meet with the owner,
a prospective buyer of the
property, and members of the
Planning & Zoning Commission
to clarify the intended
future use of the site before
moving forward with the
process.

FROM THE NEW LENOX PATRIOT
New Lenox Metra depot to
make move to Konow’s on
Aug. 15
The move of the New
Lenox Metra depot was
pushed to Wednesday, Aug.
15, to further coordinate the
five-mile trek and to notify
impacted homes and businesses
along the way of a
short power outage.
The 118-year-old structure’s
move to Walt Konow’s
farm in Homer Glen
originally was scheduled for
July 10.
Lincoln-Way Central and
West start classes the day of
the move, and Providence
Catholic starts earlier in the
week. New Lenox Area Historical
Society Chairwoman
Lori Lindberg said the move
will start after bus transportation
and the Metra morning
rush clears around 8:30
a.m.
The duration of the trip
depends on how fast crews
take down power lines. With
that said, homes and businesses
along Cedar Road to
Homer Glen will be without
power temporarily.
“I don’t think anybody
will be without power for
very long,” Lindberg said.
Metra staff will remove
the railroad gates to make
way for the depot to get onto
Cedar Road and start the
trip.
FROM THE FRANKFORT STATION
Frankfort Chamber of
Commerce employee named
Fall Fest grand marshall
Longtime Frankfort
Chamber of Commerce
staffer Marla Krippel has
volunteered for the Frankfort
Fall Fest for the past
20 years. This year, she was
honored for her service by
being named the 2018 grand
marshall of the annual fest,
which will celebrate its 50-
year anniversary in September.
“Marla is the key to putting
the Fall Fest on,” Frankfort
Fall Fest Chairman Bob
Peters said. “She is the most
knowledgeable person because
of her 20 years of experience.
Marla has been behind
the scenes of it all. It’s
truly an honor to name her as
the grand marshal.”
Krippel was recently invited
to the chairman’s
monthly meeting, where
she learned she was chosen
when she received a T-shirt
from Peters that read “2018
grand marshal.”
“It’s a very special honor,”
Krippel said. “Every year, I
enjoy the parade. I’ve been
on the chamber float in years
past. I love seeing how happy
the kids are, as they run
and pick up candy in the
street.”
Peters said Krippel was
chosen because of her excitement
and involvement
throughout the years.
As the Fall Fest grand
marshal, Krippel will have
her own car to kick off the
parade, which is scheduled
for 1 p.m. Sept. 2 at Pacific
and Maple streets.
FROM THE ORLAND PARK PRAIRIE
Sandburg Class of 1978
reunites 40 years later at
Silver Lake
High school is over in
the blink of an eye, but life
moves even faster. Jobs,
family obligations and dayto-day
responsibilities move
people further and further
from the classrooms — and
classmates — that helped
shape who they became.
On July 27, the Sandburg
High School graduating
class of 1978 celebrated its
40th high school reunion at
Silver Lake Country Club.
Mary Koon, Debbie Arnone
Michalski and George
Yunker organized the party
— which was attended by
approximately 150 people
— as members of the Reunion
Committee.
“This is my second time
doing it,” said Koon, who
now lives in Londonderry,
New Hampshire. “We like to
do one every 10 years, and
it worked out for the 40th.”
The Class of ’78 graduated
in a time before the
internet, but social media
helped them reconnect over
the years.
“We had a big class,”
Koon said. “It was about
977, and it all jived. Everyone
seemed to get along and
like each other. Facebook
kept us all together.”
Though Marc Van Dyke
and Jeff Sesol live in different
parts of the country, they
have remained best friends
since their sophomore year
at Sandburg.
“There are people we
haven’t seen in a long time,”
Sesol said.
Weathering the Storm
Above-normal temperatures and some thunderstorms
Mark T. Carroll
Contributing Columnist
July weather in
review
The above-normal
temperatures we
experienced in June
continued in July.
Most of the above-normal
temperature days occurred
in the first half of July, with
five of the six 90-degree
days we experienced occurring
on or before July 13.
July normally produces six
90-degree days. July temperatures
were 2.2 degrees
above normal. The last six
days of the month had high
temperatures slightly below
normal.
Precipitation varied greatly
across northern Illinois.
Precipitation was well
below normal at Chicago
O’Hare International Airport,
where only 1.14 inches
of rain fell, which was
2.56 inches below normal.
Chicago weather records
date back to 1871. July
2018 was the seventh driest
July on record and was the
driest since 1.32 inches of
rain was recorded in July
of 1991. Chicago Midway
International Airport had
2.60 inches of rain, which
was 1.41 inches below
normal. The south and
southwest suburbs had
more rain than Midway and
O’Hare, with much of that
rain falling during thunderstorms.
Heavy rain and
thunderstorms forced the
postponement of Fourth of
July fireworks displays in
many communities, including
Oak Forest, Orland Park
and New Lenox. Rainfall
amounts from the evening
of July 4 included the following.
• Homer Glen 2.81 inches
• Lockport 1.70 inches
• New Lenox 1.50 inches
• Mokena 0.70 inches
Spotty thunderstorm rain
on July 20 brought 1.27
inches of rain to Oak Forest,
1.03 inches in Mokena, 0.85
inches in Homer Glen and
0.61 inches in New Lenox.
While O’Hare Airport
only recorded 1.14 inches
of rain, monthly totals in
our area were much greater
because of thunderstorm
activity experienced during
the month. Total rainfall for
the month of July included
the following.
• Homer Glen 5.07 inches
• Lockport 4.16 inches
• New Lenox 4.02 inches
Most of the precipitation
fell during the first half of
the month, which has led to
some lawns moving toward
dormancy by the end of the
month.
Rip currents
Many like to enjoy the
beaches of Lake Michigan
during the summer months.
One of the dangers of swimming
in Lake Michigan is
dangerous rip currents. Rip
currents are channeled currents
of water flowing from
the shore. The following
are tips to help you survive
if you are caught in a rip
current.
If you are caught in a rip
current, flip on your back
and float to conserve energy.
If you can swim, try to
swim to the side of the current
(not against the current)
and head back to shore.
Don’t fight the current. If
you are too tired to swim,
keep floating and follow the
current.
If you do visit the beach
or spend time outdoors, remember
to protect you skin
with sunscreen or protective
clothing, and protect your
eyes by wearing sunglasses.
The weather for August and
beyond
The temperature forecast
from the National Centers
for Environmental Prediction
for July was accurate,
as above-normal temperature
was predicted. The
NCEP prediction forecast
was for normal precipitation.
While O’Hare had well
below-normal precipitation,
our area experienced normal
to slightly above-normal
precipitation, which was
enhanced by thunderstorm
activity during July. The
Centers’ forecast for August
is for normal temperatures
and normal precipitation.
The prediction for September
and October includes
above-normal temperature
and normal precipitation.
Summer is primetime
for festivals, conventions
and other large
gatherings.
No matter what you’re
into, be it sports, music
or comic books, there are
events out there that allow
you to envelop yourself
in your subject matter of
choice. Lollapalooza took
over Chicago this past
weekend with thousands of
music enthusiasts packing
into Grant Park to see their
favorite musical acts.
But Lolla wasn’t the only
attraction in Chicagoland
over the weekend. On
Saturday, Aug. 4, Lockport
played host to one of its
largest events of the year.
That was Comicopolis, a
free comic convention in
Lockport that once again
drew massive crowds. Full
coverage of the event can
be found on Page 17.
There are few things
more enriching than being
able to share something
you’re passionate about
with other people, which is
exactly what Comicopolis
allows attendees to do. The
experience is just as much
about the people you come
across as the displays or
giveaways. The synergy
brought by events such as
Comicopolis is unmatched,
and is undoubtedly a big
reason why the event has
had so much success in
Lockport over the last few
years and continues to
grow.
We are coming up on
the end of summer, which
unfortunately means events
like Lollapalooza and
Comicopolis will be fewer
and farther between, but
that is not to say they are
over with altogether. Lockport
residents still have the
park district’s annual WWII
Days coming up, and with
school starting up there will
be no shortage of happenings
around town.
One of the many great
aspects of summer is the
large events that come with
it, and few draw a bigger
crowd than Lockport’s
Comicpolis. So if you
missed it this year, mark
your calendars for this time
next year and make sure to
stop by.
FROM THE HOMER HORIZON
Shady Oaks Camp celebrates
Christmas in July
Walking in a log cabin
at Shady Oaks Camp, the
Christmas tree was glistening,
presents were under
the tree and “Have Yourself
A Merry Little Christmas”
was playing throughout the
room.
It was Christmas in July
at the Homer Glen camp.
As campers were brought in
by their counselors, exclamations
of delight could be
heard.
“We all work together
to make sure these guys
have the best time,” said
Katie Clark, who is from
England and one of two
program directors at the
camp.
The camp, which opened
in 1947, has changed from
being a camp for children
with cerebral palsy to
those with a variety of
disabilities.
“I have to quit a job to
come back here,” Clark explained.
“Right now, I don’t
have a job. It was always a
dream to come to America.
When I was in college studying,
I had a college tutor that
told me to apply. Here I am,
six years later, at Shady
Oaks.”
As Christmas morning
at Shady Oaks was winding
down, Clark cleaned up
Christmas wrapping paper
from the gifts given to campers
and counselors as part of
the event.
“The campers mean everything
to me,” Clark
said. “Camp is home; England’s
not home. Being
with these guys every day is
the best.”
Superheroes converge at Lockport library for Comicopolis
Laurie Fanelli
Freelance Reporter
In the City of Lockport,
where art and creativity
surpass the greatest of expectations,
only one event
could exceed the enthusiasm
of comic-loving residents:
Comicopolis.
White Oak Library District’s
free comic convention
— in partnership with
the City of Lockport Summer
Art Series, Amazing
Fantasy Books and Comics
and Zombie Army Productions
— took over the Lockport
Branch from 10 a.m.-
4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug.
4. Along with even more
vendors and exhibitors, the
fourth annual event featured
workshops, gaming,
activities for kids, a cosplay
costume contest and much
more.
There were even undead
inspired outdoor games
courtesy of Zombie Army
Productions.
“This is our biggest event
all year,” said Scott Pointon,
White Oak Library District
director. “We’ve had
over 1,000 attendees the
last couple of years and this
year we’re really hoping that
we push that number even
higher. Today, we got to 500
visitors faster than we ever
have.”
Mayor Steve Streit and
his wife Wendy were among
the attendee count as they
stopped by the library to
spend an afternoon full of
animated fun with their family.
“We love supporting the
library,” Wendy Streit said.
“Comicopolis is a wonderful
opportunity for families
and the kids love it. Our own
kids love it. We’re so proud
of our library district.”
Mayor Streit added that
Comicopolis is a perfect
pairing for the Lockport
Lockport resident Lillian Vahl dresses up like Princess Leia
in honor of Comicopolis.
community because it offers
something different right in
Lockport.
“Everybody likes something
that’s unique, and everybody
likes something
that is happening inside their
town,” he said. “Comicopolis
is great.”
Crest Hill resident Aris
Hill, 7, who was joined by
his mother Lady Hill, enjoyed
the selection of comics,
graphic novels and other
books available at the event.
event. Photos by Laurie Fanelli/22nd Century Media
“I like Marvel books because
I like watching superheroes
fight,” Hill said. “I
mostly like Marvel, but I got
a Batman toy so I’m starting
DC. I want to get a Flash
next.”
One of the many reasons
the library staff loves hosting
Comicopolis every year
is that Comic-Con style
events help to inspire more
people to reach for a book.
“The graphic novel is
such a great medium because
people who are visually
energized and want to
see cool things as well as
read cool things are drawn to
that medium,” Pointon said.
“It really does bring a lot of
folks into the library and into
reading, which is what we’re
all about.”
Entertainment from
Limestone Stage, animal
education from Crosstown
Exotics, bounce houses, giant
Jenga and an exhibitor
tent added to the outdoor
fun while, inside the library,
visitors were able to
attend cosplay workshops,
make-up demos and meet
with variety of artists and
illustrators including special
guests Bill Reinhold,
Linda Lessmann Reinhold,
Jeffrey Moy and Philip
Moy.
2018 was Comicopolis’
biggest year yet and Pointon
hopes it will continue to
grow in popularity.
“I say this half jokingly,
but someday, I think it would
be cool if Comicopolis was
even bigger than Canal
Days,” he said. “If this could
take over downtown and
be a massive pop-culture,
Comic-Con type festival in
Lockport, that would be fantastic.”
More information about
Comicopolis can be found at
The Dish
Country Charm provides homey
feel, amplified American classics
James Sanchez
Contributing Editor
With the antique wagon in
the parking lot and the array
of flowers on the walkway,
customers are already enveloped
in the small-town,
country feel before stepping
inside Country Charm Restaurant.
Then, they step inside,
where the knotty pine paneling,
traditional wood chairs
and vintage curtains further
exemplify the classic country
home.
It was an idea owner Jason
Panagos’ mother, Jackie,
came up with in 1984 when
she and her husband, George,
first ran the New Lenox eatery
before passing the torch
to their son in 2009.
“My mother is from southern
Illinois, so she has a
small-town background and
always had an affinity for
that look and feel,” said Jason,
who operates the restaurant
with his wife, Jennifer.
But this type of atmosphere
cannot be complete
without the American classic
comfort food, and for Country
Charm, it all starts with
the sausage gravy. Jason
Panagos said the biscuits and
gravy ($4.49 for a half order,
$5.99 for full) is his biggest
seller. The gravy’s popularity
has led to it being used in
several other breakfast items
on the menu.
Panagos said the recipe
has stayed the same since the
restaurant opened 34 years
ago. He called the gravy the
restaurant’s “backbone.”
“That’s something we
put a lot of time and energy
into,” he said. “Ours has a
unique blend of some spices
that we put in there that
you’re not going to find in a
lot of other ones.”
The gravy also is used on
The Tractor Pull ($12.99) features two popular breakfast
items in one dish. The base is the Melting Pot skillet,
topped with a full order of biscuits and gravy. James
Sanchez/22nd Century Media
the Country Benny ($7.79),
which is like a traditional
eggs Benedict, except a
biscuit replaces the English
muffin, and the gravy replaces
the hollandaise sauce.
It also is featured in the
restaurant’s largest breakfast
item, The Tractor Pull
($12.99). That combines
two hearty dishes into one.
The base is the Melting Pot,
which is a skillet with eggs
any way, ham, sausage, bacon,
onion, and American
and Swiss cheeses, topped
with biscuits and gravy.
“A lot of the younger guys
like to come in and see if
they can try and finish it,”
Jason said, with a laugh.
“It’s too much food for me.”
Many breakfast spots
serve similar dishes, so
tweaking the classics is
what Panagos said separates
Country Charm from
area competitors. George’s
Croissant ($8.99) is another
example. It has all the ingredients
of a traditional eggs
Benedict, but a croissant is
the base instead of an English
muffin.
Jackie’s Eggs may be a
new item, but Panagos said
the additions come few and
Distinctive Home Builders Introduces New Craftsman Homes
In Manhattan and Peotone – From the mid-$200’s
New designs are a result of buyer feedback
Two refreshing designs mark
the beginning of a new series
of Craftsman-style homes
available from Distinctive Home
Builders at its latest new home
communities: Prairie Trails;
located in Manhattan within the
highly-regarded Lincoln-Way
School District and at WestGate
Manor in Peotone within
the desirable Peotone School
District.
“Craftsman homes were
introduced in the early 1900s
in California with designs
based on a simpler, functional
aesthetic using a higher level
of craftsmanship and natural
materials. These homes were a
departure from homes that were
mass produced from that era,
“according to Bryan Nooner,
president of Distinctive Home
Builders.
“The Craftsman design has
made a comeback today for
many of the same reasons it
started over a century ago. Our
customers want to live in a home
that gets away from the “mass
produced” look and live in a
home that has more character. As
a result of our daily interaction
with our homeowners and their
input, we are excited to introduce
these two homes, with additional
designs in the works.”
Nooner, who meets with
each homeowner prior to
construction, has been working
on these plans for a while and felt
that the timing was ideal for the
debut. “Customers were asking
for something different and
simple with less monotony and
higher architectural standards.”
The result was the Craftsman
ranch and the Prairie twostory,
now available at Prairie
Trails and WestGate Manor.
The Craftsman ranch features
an open floor plan with Great
Room, three bedrooms, two
baths and a two-car (optional
three-car) garage. The Prairie
features a two-story foyer and
Great Room, three bedrooms
and one and one-half baths, a
convenient Flex Room space
on the main level and a two-car
(optional three-car) garage. The
Craftsman architectural elements
on both homes include brick and
stone exteriors with cedar shake
accent siding, low-pitched gabled
bracket roofs, front porches with
tapered columns and stone piers,
partially paned windows, and a
standard panel front entry door.
Distinctive Home Builders
offers a Craftsman-style trim
package offering trim without
ornate profiles and routers. The
trim features simplicity in design
with rectangles, straight lines and
layered look trims over doors for
example. The front entry door
will have the standard Craftsman
panel style door. Distinctive has
also created a Craftsman color
palate to assist buyers in making
coordinated choices for the
interior of their new Craftsman
home. Colors, cabinet styles and
flooring choices blend seamlessly
with the Craftsman trim package
and are available in gray tones
package and earth tones.
Distinctive offers custom maple
kitchen cabinets featuring solid
wood construction (no particle
board), have solid wood drawers
with dove tail joints, which is
very rare in the marketplace.
“When you buy a new home
from Distinctive, you truly are
receiving custom made cabinets
in every home we sell no matter
what the price range,” noted
Nooner.
Distinctive Home Builders
works to achieve a delivery goal
of 90 days with zero punch list
items for its homeowners. “Our
three decades building homes
provides an efficient construction
system,” said Nooner. “Many of
our skilled craftsmen have been
working with our company
for over 20 years. We also
take pride on having excellent
communicators throughout our
organization. This translates into
a positive buying and building
experience for our homeowners
and one of the highest referral
rates in the industry.”
Nooner added that all homes
are highly energy efficient. Every
home built will have upgraded
wall and ceiling insulation
values with energy efficient
windows and high efficiency
furnaces. Before homeowners
move into their new home,
Distinctive Home Builders
conducts a blower door test that
pressurizes the home to ensure
that each home passes a set of
very stringent Energy Efficiency
guidelines.
With the addition of these two
new designs, there are now 15
ranch, split-level and six twostory
single-family home styles to
choose from each offering from
three to eight different exterior
elevations at both communities.
The three- to four-bedroom
homes feature one and one-half
to two-and-one-half baths, twoto
three-car garages and a family
room, all in approximately 1,600
to over 3,000 square feet of living
space. Basements are included in
most models as well. Distinctive
also encourages customization
to make your new home truly
personalized to suit your lifestyle.
Oversize home sites; brick
exteriors on all four sides of the
first floor; custom maple cabinets;
ceramic tile or hardwood
floors in the kitchen, baths and
foyer; genuine wood trim and
doors and concrete driveways
can all be yours at Prairie
Trails and WestGate Manor.
Most all home sites at Prairie
Trails and WestGate Manor
can accommodate a three-car
garage; a very important amenity
to the Manhattan homebuyer,
said Nooner.
“When we opened Prairie
Trails and WestGate Manor we
wanted to provide the best new
home value for the dollar and
we feel with offering Premium
Standard Features that we do
just that. So why wait? This is
truly the best time to build your
dream home!”
Prairie Trails is also a beautiful
place to live and raise a family
featuring a 20-acre lake on site,
as well as direct access to the 22-
mile Wauponsee Glacial Prairie
Path that borders the community
and meanders through many
neighboring communities and
links to many other popular
trails. The Manhattan Metra
station is less than a mile away.
Besides Prairie Trails,
Distinctive Home Builders
has built homes throughout
Manhattan in the Butternut
Ridge and Leighlinbridge
developments, as well as in the
Will and south Cook county
areas over the past 30 years.
Distinctive Home Builders
chose the Will County village
of Peotone for its newest
community of 38 single-family
homes at WestGate Manor
within walking distance of the
esteemed Peotone High School.
Its convenient location between
Interstate 57 and Illinois Route
50 provide easy access to I-80
and commuters enjoy several
nearby train stations and a
35-minute drive to Chicago.
expectations for this
season?
I think we will be even
better than last year. That’s
because we have good incoming
players with a lot of
freshmen. I think that will
help and we at least want to
qualify as a team for the sectional.
With everyone back
from last season, how
close is the team?
Everyone on the team is
all super close. That helps
with us to keep each other
up. Also for us to play consistent
and to play well.
How long have you
been playing golf?
I’ve been playing on-andoff
for years. But I didn’t
play steady until my freshman
year. I was sort of
tossed into it in a JV match
play. I started taking it more
serious last season, and this
year I’m ready to go. My
dad is the superintendent at
Silver Lakes Country Club
in Orland Park, so he got me
started in golf.
Do you play any other
sports and if not, what
is it about golf that
makes it the sport for
you?
No, I just play golf. I just
like being outside. Golf is a
team sport, but it’s also an
individual sport too, so it’s
a great mix. Plus my whole
family golfs, so it’s nice to
get together as a family and
go out and play.
Have you ever hit a
hole-in-one?
No, I wish. That’s the
goal. I’ve got within a couple
of feet.
What’s your favorite
golf course?
Silver Lake. Not just because
I work there. I like the
layout of it and the greens
are in good condition. I like
the north course at Silver
Lake the best, just because
of the layout. It’s a little longer.
It’s just fun to go out and
play.
If you played another
sport, what would it be
and why?
Swimming. I took swim
lessons when I was younger.
When I got to high school,
I debated whether or not to
go into golf or swimming.
Since they’re in the same
season, I could only do one.
I decided on golf.
What have you learned
from Lockport girls golf
coach Kyle Yaeger?
He’s really taught me
about putts. Also to do one
shot at a time, and not to
focus on my score. Just to
focus on my golf mentality
and swing.
Photo Submitted
It’s still a ways off, but
are you planning to play
golf in college?
I think so. I’d say most
likely, but it depends on
where I go and how it fits
my schedule. But I’d certainly
like to. I want to major
in business..
What’s the best thing
about being an athlete
at Lockport?
The relationships that you
build with your teammates.
The fact that you want to
spend time with them outside
of your sport. Plus
through sports, you meet a
lot of great people that you
wouldn’t have met otherwise.
Girls Golf
Porters aiming high with entire squad returning
Randy Whalen
Freelance Reporter
They’re back — every
single one of them.
All the golfers from last
seasons Lockport Township
girls golf team return this
fall. With no seniors last
year, the Porters had a winning
record in dual/triangular
meets. They placed third
at the SouthWest Suburban
Conference Blue Division
meet at Green Garden Country
Club in Frankfort.
With the entire team returning,
they are expecting bigger
and better things this season.
“It’s exciting,” Lockport
girls coach Kyle Yaeger said
of the upcoming season.
“Last year we had a pretty
successful season. Hopefully
with everyone being a
year older now, they should
step up. Hopefully the whole
team can make it to the sectional
as a team.”
Last season, Lockport
didn’t qualify the team for
the sectional, missing by
seven strokes. But four individuals
qualified out of
the Class 2A Providence Regional,
which was held on
the Porters home course at
Broken Arrow in Lockport.
The sectional qualifiers
were Claire Ancevicius (95),
who is now a sophomore,
Rachel Kuzel (96) and Megan
Kohley (98), both now
juniors, and Katherine Tomczuk
(105) now a sophomore.
Freshman Fiona Heeney
(111) now a sophomore,
and Kearney Pluth (117)
now a senior, just missed the
individual qualifying cut.
“Rachel was our No. 1
for most of last year” Yaeger
said. “We expect her to
do well, but everyone who
played in the regional will
be back. It will be nice to see
them move up.”
At the Class 2A Waubonsie
Valley Sectional, which
was held at Springbrook
Golf Course in Naperville,
Kuzel (90) finished with the
best score on the team.
“[The sectional] was
rough,” Kuzel said at that
time. “[This] year we except
two or three of us to have
consistent scores in the 80s
or better.”
When the Porters shot a
367 at the SWSC Blue meet
at Green Garden In Frankfort
last September, it was
easily their best of the season.
Kuzel (85, 4th overall)
led Lockport. Kohley (91,
7th overall) had her lowest
score ever to also place in
the Top 10. Ancevicius (97)
and Pluth (98) rounded out
the top four for the Porters
and will look to have them
in contention for their first
SWSC Blue title since 2008.
“I think we will be even
better than last year” Kohley
said. “Everyone on the team
is all super close. That helps
with us to keep each other
up.”
The close knit group will
welcome in some freshmen
to the team this season.
“We have about a half
dozen freshmen out this
season,” Yaeger said. “So
we expect a larger varsity
team. We had the Lockport
golf camp in the second
week of June at Prairie Bluff
Golf Course. We had a lot of
younger kids out at that.”
This will be be the second
season as LTHS girls golf
coach for Yaeger, a 2013
Lockport graduate. He graduated
from St. Xavier University
in the spring of 2017
with a criminal justice degree.
This past year he was
able to secure a full time job
working midnights as a police
officer. While he plans
to be there as often as possible
this golf season, work
will sometimes beckon. So
assistant coach, Robin Prokaski
will be on hand to lend
his guidance.
“It’s going to be an exciting
year” Yaeger said. “We
want to do well, and if we
get any girls to state, it will
be a bonus. We want to have
fun and win as a team. I’ll be
there as often as I can. When
I can’t, Robin will do a great
job.”
Although teams could
play this week, Lockport
isn’t slatted to open the season
until Monday, Aug. 13,
with a 7 a.m. tee-off in the
York Invite at Oakbrook
Golf Course. The next day,
Tuesday, Aug. 14, brings a 1
p.m. dual meet against host
Plainfield North at the Links
of Carillon Golf Course in
Plainfield. The home opener
is at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 as
Latin travels to Broken Arrow
Golf Course.
The following week
brings a trio of 4:30 p.m.
dual meets. The first is a
SWSC crossover on Aug.
20 at Broken Arrow against
Bradley-Bourbonnais. Another
SWSC meet is next on
Aug. 22 against Stagg at Silver
Lake Country Club, and
that is followed with a local
matchup on Aug. 23 against
host Providence at Broken
Arrow.
Sophomore Claire Ancevicius is expected to be a key player for the LTHS girls golf team
this season. 22nd Century Media File Photo

LTHS football alumni hit the links for fundraiser
Randy Whalen
Freelance Reporter
The commitment to Lockport
Township football runs
deep.
Take the Porter Football
Booster Club for example.
President Tim Houlihan,
Vice President Jim Malevitis,
spirit wear director
Lynn Malevitis, treasurer
Maryann Hildebranski, and
concessions director Laura
Houlihan all returned for this
upcoming season. Only secretary
Jean Kelly is new. She
replaced Leigh Kelley, who
died earlier this year.
“With the exception of our
secretary, the whole booster
club is still here from last
year,” Tim Houlihan said.
“But all our kids have now
graduated. It’s because of
the commitment we have
for the kids on all levels, and
for the coaching staff. They
have been beyond supportive
of us.”
That was on display last
week as Lockport High
School Football and the
Lockport Football Alumni
Organization held their
second annual Drive for a
Touchdown Golf Outing &
Fundraiser. That took place
on Friday, Aug. 3, at Broken
Arrow Golf Club in Lockport.
“The alumni continue it
and encourage it each year
more and more,” Tim Houlihan
said. “We want them to
be a part of it.”
An alumnus who was part
of it this year, but not last
year, was new Lockport Athletic
Director Mike Dwyer.
A 1993 Lockport graduate,
Dwyer was named as AD in
July. He played football and
ran track during his time as a
Porter athlete.
“I just think it’s a great
event and well organized,”
Dwyer said of the Drive for
a Touchdown Golf Outing
& Fundraiser. “The booster
club did a great job of getting
everything ready and
making sure this was well
run and attended.
“I met some of the alumni
out there that I didn’t know.
It was important for them to
be back and to be part of that
Lockport family. We will
continue to reach out to the
alumni as their legacy is still
felt in the hallways here.”
The outing started at
noon with a registration and
lunch, followed by the golf.
The event concluded with
a dinner and awards ceremony.
There were different
levels of sponsorship and 55
total businesses, individuals
and organizations that contributed.
Prizes were also given
out for the performance on
the golf course. An alumni
threesome of Ryan Frederick
and Brendan Murphy [both
Class of 2009] along with
Nick Pleva [Class of 2010]
brought home the best score.
They called themselves
“The Big 3” and finished the
day 14 strokes under par.
“It’s my first time back”
Murphy said of attending the
alumni event. “Coach [Joe]
Cunnane sent me an invite.
I had an appointment fall
through at the last moment
and was able to come. It’s
The threesome of LTHS football alumni (left to right) Nick
pleva, Ryan Frederick and Brendan Murphy posted the best
score of the day Friday, Aug. 3, during the Lockport Football
Alumni Organization Drive for a Touchdown Golf Outing &
Fundraiser. Adam Jomant/22nd Century Media
just great to see everyone
and to reconnect.
“It’s good to be back and
raise money for the football
team and boosters. They
continue to help kids grow.”
his fifth season as the
The event was
the LTHS football
program’s last large
event until the Porters
take the field Aug. 25
against Providence
at Huskie Stadium in
Former LTHS
standout has
at Michigan State
University
Kara Keating, Editorial Intern
For many people, setting
a goal and seeing it through
to completion is a considerable
challenge that can take
years; but that’s not the case
for Josh Lantow.
The former Lockport
Township High School
swimmer achieved most of
the athletic goals he set for
himself this past season as a
freshman on the swimming
and diving team at Michigan
State University.
“It was successful for me
because I met all the goals
that I set for myself, and I
had a lot of fun doing it,”
Lantow said of his first year
as a Spartan. “I really like all
my teammates there.”
The former Porter finished
his first year at Michigan
State this past spring where
he majors in animal science.
His final choice was between
MSU and Purdue, noting
both schools’ affiliation with
the Big Ten Conference and
their large campus atmospheres.
But when it came
down to it, being a Spartan
was a priority for him.
“I really liked the idea of
going to a Big Ten School
because I like how big the
campus is,” Lantow said.
Former Lockport Township High School swimmer Josh Lantow had a stellar freshman
season at Michigan State University and is looking to improve this year. MSU Athletic Communications
“Michigan State was just the
best fit for me because of the
major they offered and I just
liked the coaches and the
coaching staff.”
Before heading to Michigan
State, Lantow was
named varsity team captain
two years in a row at LTHS
and made the Illinois High
School Association All-State
team. During his junior year
of high school, he suffered
a compound fracture in his
arm, but came back from
it with the help of his head
coach, Jason Ozbolt.
Ozbolt knew Lantow
made the perfect decision to
head to East Lansing to continue
his swim career.
“I think it was a really great
decision,” Ozbolt said. “He
has talent and hardwork and
I think that it’s a great school
for him. It actually pushed
him farther and take him farther
in his swimming career.”
During his first season
as a Spartan, Lantow set a
personal and team record at
the Big Ten Championships
in the 200 free event with a
time of 1:39.02. He set another
personal record during
the competition by finishing
the 100 free in 44.99. The
team finished 10th overall in
the tournament.
Heading into his sophomore
season, Lantow set
goals of dropping time during
his individual events and
to make the relay team heading
into the Big Ten Championships.
“Some of my goals going
into next season are to make
finals and help score some
more points for my team individually,”
Lantow said. “I
also hope to break records in
the team events too.”
Ozbolt described his former
swimmer as a natural
born leader. He said Lantow
would push his teammates to
rally around a common goal,
and strive to earn that result.
Throughout the four years
of coaching Lantow, Ozbolt
always knew he would set
goals for himself and was
able to push past his weaknesses
to earn the end result.
“Sometimes he puts a lot
of pressure on himself, and
sometimes when he doesn’t
achieve that goal right away
I think he would get angry,”
Ozbolt said. “But in the end
he always turned that weakness
into a strength and used
that to fuel his own passion
and determination to push
himself to do well.”
Lantow started his swim
career around the age of 9
at the Lockport Swim Club
for two years and then joined
the Academy Bullets Swim
Club when he was 11. He
started getting into swimming
after the 2008 Summer
Olympics watching
four-time Olympic swimmer
Michael Phelps and the USA
Swimming team.
Outside of NCAA competition,
Lantow hopes to
make it to the Olympic Trials
for the upcoming 2020
Olympic Games in Tokyo
before ending his time at
Michigan State.
“Quite honestly, I think he
can go however far he has
the drive and the passion
for,” Ozbolt said. “I think he
has, especially towards his
later years of high school,
his talent and hard work really
started to pay off and if
he wants to continue working
with it and doing it, it
will take him as far as he
wants.”
LISTEN UP
“This is why I love living in Lockport and coaching in
Lockport. Because of the support that Lockport gets.
This is a great opportunity to see the alumni.”
