10 Questions
with Megan Kohley
Megan Kohley is a junior
at Lockport Township High
School and is one of a
number of returners on this
season’s girls golf team.
What are the team’s
expectations for this
season?
I think we will be even
better than last year. That’s
because we have good incoming
players with a lot of
freshmen. I think that will
help and we at least want to
qualify as a team for the sectional.
With everyone back
from last season, how
close is the team?
Everyone on the team is
all super close. That helps
with us to keep each other
up. Also for us to play consistent
and to play well.
How long have you
been playing golf?
I’ve been playing on-andoff
for years. But I didn’t
play steady until my freshman
year. I was sort of
tossed into it in a JV match
play. I started taking it more
serious last season, and this
year I’m ready to go. My
dad is the superintendent at
Silver Lakes Country Club
in Orland Park, so he got me
started in golf.
Do you play any other
sports and if not, what
is it about golf that
makes it the sport for
you?
No, I just play golf. I just
like being outside. Golf is a
team sport, but it’s also an
individual sport too, so it’s
a great mix. Plus my whole
family golfs, so it’s nice to
get together as a family and
go out and play.
Have you ever hit a
hole-in-one?
No, I wish. That’s the
goal. I’ve got within a couple
of feet.
What’s your favorite
golf course?
Silver Lake. Not just because
I work there. I like the
layout of it and the greens
are in good condition. I like
the north course at Silver
Lake the best, just because
of the layout. It’s a little longer.
It’s just fun to go out and
play.
If you played another
sport, what would it be
and why?
Swimming. I took swim
lessons when I was younger.
When I got to high school,
I debated whether or not to
go into golf or swimming.
Since they’re in the same
season, I could only do one.
I decided on golf.
What have you learned
from Lockport girls golf
coach Kyle Yaeger?
He’s really taught me
about putts. Also to do one
shot at a time, and not to
focus on my score. Just to
focus on my golf mentality
and swing.

It’s still a ways off, but
are you planning to play
golf in college?
I think so. I’d say most
likely, but it depends on
where I go and how it fits
my schedule. But I’d certainly
like to. I want to major
in business..
What’s the best thing
about being an athlete
at Lockport?
The relationships that you
build with your teammates.
The fact that you want to
spend time with them outside
of your sport. Plus
through sports, you meet a
lot of great people that you
wouldn’t have met otherwise.
