New Trier student raises funds through fashion show
Submitted Content
Local teens, artists, and musicians
attended Victor Pearlman’s “Organized
Chaos” show on July 7. This
public event, held at the Winnetka
Youth Organization in Winnetka,
managed to raise more than $400 toward
free youth programming at the
center.
The event welcomed more than 80
teens from all over the North Shore,
eager to listen to unique music from
local bands such as Kolla, Wrench
and Lower Lip Drip and experience
Pearlman’s fashion line, Stay Noided.
The New Trier junior centers each
of his fashion collections on a specific,
focused inspiration that influences
his community to come together,
regardless of their identity.
This show at the Winnetka Youth
Organization focused on female empowerment.
Specifically, Pearlman
hired a number of female models,
including students from nearby high
schools and his own mother.
Trier, hosted a fashion show for his
line Stay Noided to raise funds for
The fashion show expressed how
through clothing, music and the behavior
of the models, how women
often feel silenced in our society, and
inspired them to speak out. Models
were encouraged to look angry and
powerful, and to not be afraid to be
loud.
“Victor brought a really fantastic
energy to the Winnetka Youth Organization,”
said Mary Komlofske, the
program director at the youth organization.
“It’s awesome that we can
work together to make that happen.
It all felt very collaborative; we had
models, we had artists, and we had
Victor and ourselves.”
During rehearsals, Pearlman also
worked with each individual model
to make sure that their outfit and
runway were uniquely theirs. He
showed himself to be an attentive
and empathetic listener; the end result
felt like a collaboration between
Pearlman and the women he had
brought on board.
“Watching Victor Pearlman work a
room is really remarkable,’ Komlofske
said. “He has interpersonal skills
beyond his years. He’s definitely going
to do some amazing things.”
Located in the lower level of the
Winnetka Community House, the
Winnetka Youth Organization has
been dedicated in putting their teens
first and creating a safe culture within
their after-school drop-in center
since 1969.
for the parking stalls.
“I have a hard time not
listening to this strong recommendation
from our architect,”
she said. “I think
it’ll make the project look
green and natural.”
Commissioner Gordon
Anderson felt the value of
the asphalt with brick pavers
for the parking stalls is
worth the cost.
“I’m as cheap as anybody
else, but I’m willing
to pay for stuff that has
value,” he said. “When
you’ve got a permeable
paver parking lot integrated
in with the asphalt, it’s
a much better look. The
whole thing looks great
other than the parking lot,
so let’s make the parking
lot up to the standards of
the rest of the project.”
Tinucci said that the fire
hydrant is being added at
the request of the Wilmette
Fire Department.
“In our conversations
with the municipality, the
fire chief (Ben Wozney) in
particular, it was requested
that we add another fire
hydrant to the park. It’s
a small cost we think for
added benefit and value.”
Specifically, President
Amy Wolfe explained the
Wilmette Fire Department
suggested that the fire hydrant
be added in order
to give better capabilities
of putting out fires in the
Lakeview Center picnic
area.
The soft costs totaled
$985,814, including
$353,000 for architectural/
engineering fees, $50,000
for furniture, fixtures and
equipment, $15,000 for legal,
$10,905 for insurance,
$50,000 for permit fees,
$100,000 for utility fees,
$4,000 for moving/cleaning
costs and $402,909 for
owner contingency.
