“Do not think that I have come
to abolish the Law or the
Prophets; I have not come to
abolish them but to fulfill them.”
–Matthew 5:17, NIV
“As Jesus went on from there,
he saw a man named Matthew
sitting at the tax collector’s
booth. “Follow me,” he told
him, and Matthew got up and
followed him.
–Matthew 9:9, NIV
“She will give birth to a son, and
you are to give him the name
Jesus because he will save
his people from their sins. All
this took place to fulfill what
the Lord had said through the
prophet.
–Matthew 1:21-22, NIV,
emphasis added
“The virgin will conceive and
give birth to a son, and they will
call him Immanuel (which means
“God with us”)”.
Mathew is the most Jewish-centric of all the Gospels.
He doesn’t say, “I’m writing to my Jewish buddies,” but the
signs are all over the place. We believe he was speaking primarily
to sophisticated scholarly Jews. This is the reason he quoted the
Old Testament 96 times, much more than the other three Gospels.
He just casually mentioned Jewish celebrations. The other
Gospels had to expound on the occasions because their audience—the
Gentiles—wouldn’t know a thing about them.
His message to the Jews was loud and clear: God moved in
our past, yes, but He’s also moving in the present.
The Jews went through 400 years of prophetic silence.
Some wondered, “Has God abandoned us?”
Matthew tells them, “No, He hasn’t. He is here more than
ever. His name is Jesus. And we, the Church, are the new Israel.”
Friend, God moved in your past. But He’s not finished with
you yet. He is doing something new.
Have a Spirit-filled Feast today.
May your dreams come true,
God sees YoUR PotentIAL
Years before we bought our condo, my wife said to our agent, “We
want to design our own home. We want to choose the right color for
the walls so we can match it with the furniture that we want to buy.
Could you hand it over to us bare?”
I had no idea what bare meant until the day I walked into our
condo unit for the first time. Not only did it not have paint on the
walls, but it didn’t have floor tiles, toilets, sinks, cabinets. It was just
concrete from top to bottom.
It looked like an abandoned set from The Walking Dead. I was
almost disappointed when I didn’t find any dead zombies lying
around. I had this worried look on my face and I turned to Kristel. She
just smiled and told me, “Don’t worry, it’s going to be great!”
When Jesus saw Matthew, he didn’t see him as a corrupt tax
collector that everyone knew he was. Instead, He saw a promising
disciple. Society saw a sinner, but only Jesus saw a saint.
God sees your potential. He sees your possibilities. He sees
what you could be. When you look in the mirror and don’t see
anything good about you, God looks at you and says, “You’re going to be great!”
May God reveal to you your truest potential.
You will be blessed today.
The Feast for Breakfast, Anyone?
Jerrylyn “Jiji” Retulla, who works as an auditor of Via Mare, tells
Timothy Quintos that’s exactly how she offered and brought The
Feast to their office in Makati City.
Life in Davao for me was hard. Working at a young age, I later
decided to come to Manila to find a way to send my siblings to
school. Fortunately, I eventually landed a good job and found my
way to The Feast.
Sis Rubilyn Hangad, a fellow Davaoeña once asked me, “Jiji,
kilala mo ba si Bro. Bo Sanchez?”
Proudly I said, “Oo naman, binabasa ko s’ya nung college pa
ako sa Kerygma magazine.”
“Gusto mo ba siya makita? Sama ka sa Feast.”
I hesitated, “Ah, ‘wag na lang muna.” After a few months, I
decided to go, only because I knew our mutual friend Raquel.
My Unforgettable Experience
Little did I know that that Palm Sunday of 2008 would be the
start of something new. I vividly remember my first-time. Bro. Bo’s
message that day touched me and even made me cry. Isa pa sa
hindi ko makakalimutan sa araw na ‘yun, sobrang saya ko pero
hindi ko ma explain kung bakit.
Never mind that I had to travel from Taguig, where I lived,
to Valle Verde in Pasig, where the gathering was back then, with
money just enough for my fare and for my tithing. That time I
was still sending my two younger siblings to college and had
bills and debts to pay, so my constant prayer was, “Lord, ‘wag
mo sana akong hayaang mawalan ng pamasahe tuwing Linggo
kasi ayokong maging dahilan ‘yun para di ako makapunta sa
Feast. Sa awa at grasya ng Diyos, never namang nangyari. At
napagtapos ko ang mga kapatid ko at nakapagpundar pa ako
ng bahay at lupa. God is good talaga.”
The Desire
When I became a regular attendee and a servant at the
Singles Ministry and Intercessory Ministry, I had this longing to
bring my colleagues. Sabi ko, ma-experience nila yung love and
joy na na-experience
ko sa Feast so I never
stopped inviting them.
Do It Afraid
When I found out
about the Feast Light,
got curious. I asked Bro.
Angelo Merced, who’s
been doing it. I thought
if he who has cerebral
palsy could do it, why
Jiji, second from left, with her colleagues at the
pantry of Via Mare.
can’t I? Sis Pat Morales, a fellow servant’s advice inspired me
further: Huwag magpadala sa takot. Just get started.” After a
year of excuses, I did it.
Unexpected Results
I started Feast Light San Antonio on March 15, 2018 at the
pantry of our head office. My colleagues and I would gather every
Thursday at 7:20 AM ideal for those having breakfast and want to
start their day right.
I did it unsure of people’s response. By God’s grace, laging
may dumarating. About four to eight of us now meet weekly. They
say they find our prayer meeting – video and our short sharing –
inspiring. This despite them never having been to the live Feast.
To my infinite surprise, one of them, the least I expected to
join, is a regular attendee. From the start, he has only missed a
single meeting and only because of an emergency.
I know God is behind all this. This is beyond me. Only He can
make this happen.
Realizations
I know now why I had that desire in my heart. Sayang pala
kasi ‘yung opportunity to spread the love and hope that comes
from the Lord to the people around me. Kung hindi ako nag-yes,
sino pa ba ang gagawa nito?
Like Jiji, you too can start your own Feast Light at home, in
school or in your office. Check out www.thefeastvideo.com and
RecAP The Gospel According to John 6: 24-35
“every consecrated host must
burn in everyone’s hearts.”
-Fr Bob McConaghy
Jesus wants us to love others selflessly, the same
way He gives His self-sacrificing love for us. Thus,
it is essential to receive Jesus through the Holy
Communion every time we attend the Holy Mass.
“focus on the greatness of God.”
-Fr. Bong Bayaras
Two reasons why we get irritable: hunger and
tiredness. Sometimes when we listen to our
grumbling stomach and other discomforts, we
forget God’s love for us. Like the Jews who felt
hungry and tired while wandering in the desert,
we immediately complain and forget how God
provides for us.
talk 2: mark
Big message:
God has bigger plans.
Who Was Mark? Mark was not a disciple but he
was able to write 16 chapters on Jesus because he
constantly spent time with Him and His apostles.
His mother opened their home to the disciples. As a
young boy, he was exposed to spiritual mentors like
Peter and Paul.
Mark’s Emphasis. Compared to the books of the
other evangelists, Mark’s wasn’t focused on the
narration of Christ’s life, or parables, but it is more of
how the Lord worked. The book constantly used the
word immediately showing that Jesus was a man of
action.

God has bigger plans for you.”
–Bro. Bo Sanchez
Six going seven. Youth High celebrates its sixth year
anniversary with praise and thanksgiving to God.
Who Is Jesus?
Lessons from Mark’s Life:
• Make your home a church. Don’t
just pray for a beautiful house. Pray
for a home church and start inviting
people for a prayer meeting to a
Light Group or a Feast Light (Video).
• Serve early. Aside from being
focused on one’s studies, the young
ones should start serving the Lord
and be formed spiritually.
• Hang out with the right people.
Be with mentors or people who
inspire you to work on your dreams
and be more and more like Jesus
every day.
The Gospel of Mark answers this question from
different perspectives:
Heaven: “You are My Son, whom I love; with you I am
well pleased."
Hell: I know who you are--the Holy One of God!"
Humanity: In response to Jesus’ question, “But
who do you say that I am?”, Peter
answered, “You are the Christ.”
Bigger and Better. We sometimes think of God as
a vending machine and expect Him to dispense
answers when we pray for something. Don’t force the
results but pray and let go. Know that when God does
not answer our prayers, it’s because He has a bigger
and better plan for us.
When you dream, make it big. How big and
how wide will your dreams influence others? Don’t
settle for your own personal blessings, always ask,
how can I serve others with my blessings? Keep in
mind that God doesn’t just want to bless you, He
wants to bless the world through you.
