mY feAst LIGht stoRY The Feast for Breakfast, Anyone? Jerrylyn “Jiji” Retulla, who works as an auditor of Via Mare, tells Timothy Quintos that’s exactly how she offered and brought The Feast to their office in Makati City. Life in Davao for me was hard. Working at a young age, I later decided to come to Manila to find a way to send my siblings to school. Fortunately, I eventually landed a good job and found my way to The Feast. Sis Rubilyn Hangad, a fellow Davaoeña once asked me, “Jiji, kilala mo ba si Bro. Bo Sanchez?” Proudly I said, “Oo naman, binabasa ko s’ya nung college pa ako sa Kerygma magazine.” “Gusto mo ba siya makita? Sama ka sa Feast.” I hesitated, “Ah, ‘wag na lang muna.” After a few months, I decided to go, only because I knew our mutual friend Raquel. My Unforgettable Experience Little did I know that that Palm Sunday of 2008 would be the start of something new. I vividly remember my first-time. Bro. Bo’s message that day touched me and even made me cry. Isa pa sa hindi ko makakalimutan sa araw na ‘yun, sobrang saya ko pero hindi ko ma explain kung bakit. Never mind that I had to travel from Taguig, where I lived, to Valle Verde in Pasig, where the gathering was back then, with money just enough for my fare and for my tithing. That time I was still sending my two younger siblings to college and had bills and debts to pay, so my constant prayer was, “Lord, ‘wag mo sana akong hayaang mawalan ng pamasahe tuwing Linggo kasi ayokong maging dahilan ‘yun para di ako makapunta sa Feast. Sa awa at grasya ng Diyos, never namang nangyari. At napagtapos ko ang mga kapatid ko at nakapagpundar pa ako ng bahay at lupa. God is good talaga.” The Desire When I became a regular attendee and a servant at the Singles Ministry and Intercessory Ministry, I had this longing to bring my colleagues. Sabi ko, ma-experience nila yung love and joy na na-experience ko sa Feast so I never stopped inviting them. Do It Afraid When I found out about the Feast Light, got curious. I asked Bro. Unexpected Results I started Feast Light San Antonio on March 15, 2018 at the pantry of our head office. My colleagues and I would gather every Thursday at 7:20 AM ideal for those having breakfast and want to start their day right. I did it unsure of people’s response. By God’s grace, laging may dumarating. About four to eight of us now meet weekly. They say they find our prayer meeting – video and our short sharing – inspiring. This despite them never having been to the live Feast. To my infinite surprise, one of them, the least I expected to join, is a regular attendee. From the start, he has only missed a single meeting and only because of an emergency. I know God is behind all this. This is beyond me. Only He can make this happen. Realizations I know now why I had that desire in my heart. Sayang pala kasi ‘yung opportunity to spread the love and hope that comes from the Lord to the people around me. Humanity: In response to Jesus’ question, “But who do you say that I am?”, Peter answered, “You are the Christ.” Bigger and Better. We sometimes think of God as a vending machine and expect Him to dispense answers when we pray for something. Don’t force the results but pray and let go. Know that when God does not answer our prayers, it’s because He has a bigger and better plan for us. When you dream, make it big. How big and how wide will your dreams influence others? Don’t settle for your own personal blessings, always ask, how can I serve others with my blessings? Keep in mind that God doesn’t just want to bless you, He wants to bless the world through you.
