House Community Center in
Hampton will be hosting the 1st
Annual Summer Day Craft/Vendor
Fair on Saturday, August 18th from
8am-2pm. The front lawn of the
church will feature a variety of 30
crafters and vendors, rain or shine.
Some of these include ‘Clay Figurines’
by Amber Finn, ‘Hot Sauces’ by
Kevin Taillon, ‘Sweet Treats Makings’
by Megan Whiteman, ‘Pampered
Chef’, ‘Mary Kay’, ‘31 Bags’ just to
name a few! There will be an ‘Indoor
Yard Sale’ held at the same time
inside of Hobbs Hall to benefit the
operating expenses of Hobbs House
Community Center, so that we may
continue to offer it as a resource to
the community. A yard sale preview/
early bird sale will be held on Friday,
August 17th from 4pm-6pm with the
sale re-opening Saturday from 8amnoon.
We are still hopeful a food
truck will be on site for the purchase
of food, drinks and baked goods.

ART WALK
The Port City is throwing a midsummer
celebration for art lovers
as more than 20 Newburyport
galleries and partner sites collaborate
for the third ArtWalk of the year
on Saturday, August 18 from 11-6
p.m. The ArtWalk features painting
demonstrations, special exhibits,
artist discussions, outdoor sculpture,
jewelry, gifts and more in a casual
reception environment. The public is
invited to take the self-guided tour to
see art of all styles and tastes, shop,
dine, and explore this historic port
city’s Cultural District. The final 2018
ArtWalk will take place on November
3rd. A free brochure/map of all venues
is available at participating galleries,
the Newburyport Chamber of
Commerce, the passageway between
State and Inn Street and at ArtWalk
Partners’ locations.
MAGIC: THE GATHERING DAY
First published in 1993 by Wizards of
the Coast, Magic The Gathering was
the first trading card game created and
it continues to thrive to this very day
with millions of players all over the
world. Magic can be played by two
or more players in various formats
and is best suited to players age 5 and
up. We are thrilled to have Michael
J Geary and Josh Brown both with
over 23 years of playing experience
back with us for our summer gaming
event. Michael is formally a level 1
Judge and ranked #1 in the Military.
Josh has been playing since the game
came into existence. Michael and
Josh will teach newcomers the ins
and outs of getting started in the
world of Magic The Gathering. They
will also challenge more experienced
players to help build their skill set
and endurance. Saturday, August 18
from 12-3 pm. Come to learn, play,
watch or trade. We look forward to

CELEBRATION
A fundraising event full of Music, Art,

event in support of the Byfield
Community Arts Center. The Arts
Center is a non-profit organization

Maudslay State Park the weekend
of August 18-19 putting on four
full productions in two days. The
Theater in the Open Festival rounds
out TITO’s 39th summer season
with performances of each spring
and summer show produced so far
this year. On Saturday, Family Hour
in the Open is at 11am and A Jack
and the Beanstalk Panto! is at 2pm.
Sunday Much Ado About Nothing
is performed at 1pm and Medea at
5pm. The productions will feature
over twenty local actors, and five local
directors, including Artistic Director
of Theater in the Open, Edward
Speck. “After last year’s success —
bringing over 600 people into the Park
— we couldn’t be more excited to put
on the Festival again this year,” says
Speck, “having so many people enjoy
both our art and the beautiful state
park all at once is so gratifying. But
what really stood out to us last year
was the range of audience interest.
We had children who came out and
enjoyed watching Shakespeare, or
who saw Antigone for the first time,
and adults who howled with laughter
watching Family Hour in the Open.
We also had a lot of visitors from
outside of our immediate area who
came to see a TITO production for
the first time.” Family Hour is Theater
in the Open’s monthly performance
of singing, storytelling, and bubbles
aimed at children and families. Put on
by TITO’s Company, Family Hour
is a perfect introduction to Theater
in the Open for young audiences. A
Jack and the Beanstalk Panto! builds
on the themes and storyline from
the popular folk tale, Jack and the
Beanstalk. Directors Edward Speck
and Josh Shack have created a comedic
adventure for Jack and Jill that will
delight and entertain audiences of
all ages. William Shakespeare’s classic
comedy, Much Ado About Nothing
is a remount of TITO’s 1997
version, also directed by Bonniejean
Wilbur. Much Ado is the story of
love, mistaken identity, and family
honor. Much Ado About Nothing is
appropriate for audiences of all ages.
Finally, Euripides’ tragedy Medea is a
chilling account of a mother pushed
beyond the limit of suffering, exacting
revenge in the only way she can.
Medea is directed by Stephen Haley,
and features Newburyport actors
Sierra Gitlin and Edward Speck as
Medea and Jason. Medea may not be
appropriate for young audiences, for

Join a refuge ranger for a behind
the scenes tour of Parker River
National Wildlife Refuge. Tour will
be conducted via refuge van, with
several brief “drive by” stops along
the way. The tour will present an “up
close and personal” look at the refuge
through the multiple lenses of the
cultural history of Plum Island and
the Great Marsh, native wildlife and
their habitats, and the role of refuge
management in the conservation
of these precious natural resources.
Participants may be driven along
areas on the refuge otherwise closed
