NEW PARENT
INFORMATION EVENING
TUESDAY 28 AUGUST
7PM IN THE SCHOOL HALL
The junior boys dance
troupe (pictured) showcased
an exciting dance
routine. Parents were
welcomed into classrooms
on Tuesday evening
to enjoy the vibrant
rooms.
The students were
keen to show their parents
their class work.
Visiting author Ursula
Dubosarsky delivered
an entertaining presentation
to all students in
the library.
Shock figures reveal our schools at breaking point
Two local schools have reached full capacity and six others are being pushed to breaking point,
according to figures released this week by City of Ryde Mayor Jerome Laxale.
The figures obtained
under the Freedom of
Information Act reveal
that Eastwood Heights
Public School and Eastwood
Public School have
reached full capacity with
North Ryde Public School,
Truscott Street Public
School and Epping Boys
High up to 94 per cent of
capacity.
Meadowbank Public
School has reached 88
per cent with Ryde Public
School at 85 per cent and
Marsden High School at
73 per cent.
Mayor Laxale said he
released the figures to
show why he opposes
a proposal by Ryde MP
Victor Dominello to close
Marsden High School and
relocate students to a proposed
new education centre
based at the Meadowbank
TAFE site.
“It makes no sense for
Victor Dominello to shut
down Marsden High and
Meadowbank Public when
schools in Ryde are at or
near capacity,” Mayor Laxale
said.
“Students in Ryde deserve
better than being
crowded in cramped
classrooms or forced to
learn in demountables.
“The Berejiklian Government
has the wrong priorities
when they splash
cash on stadium rebuilds
in Sydney instead of funding
schools in Ryde.”
Mayor Laxale is the Labor
candidate for Ryde
and recently invited Opposition
Leader Luke
Foley and Shadow Education
Minister Jihad Dib to
Marsden High to hear the
concerns of parents.
“We have been facing
increased population
growth in this communities
for some time and the Liberal
government has paid
lip-service to tackling the
issue,” Mr Dib said.
“Students and teachers
need a quality environment
to learn and teach
in instead of cramped and
crowded classrooms.”
He was scepitical that
Mr Dominello’s education
centre would solve the
problem.
“This is a government
that is good at making
promises but the problem
is they just don’t deliver
on them,” he said.
He said Labor’s approach
is different.
“The difference between
Labor and this other lot is
that we will actually build
them instead of just talking
about them because
Labor has committed to
an unprecedented school
building program.
“Labor will plan for new
schools in this growing
community because
we need more schools,
including government,
Catholic and independent
schools.”
