EDITOR'S NOTE
Amanda Brown
I was homeschooled. For the first thirteen years of my life, boys were not on my radar
at all. It was definitely a blessing because, let's just get one thing straight: crushes are
exhausting. Relationships are exhausting. That's why it's so important that, no matter
what guy is pursuing us, we remember our most important relationship: with God.
Romans 8 was my passage this summer. I studied the life out of it. I wrote it down on
index cards and notebook paper; I marked it up, writing down all my thoughts and
making notes of all the lists and pronouns and commands. I looked up the meanings of
the words and memorized it. It really made an impact on me.
Dear sister, the Bible says that love is the bond of perfectness. But what is love really?
Romantic dates? A guy with a bouquet of your favorite flowers? That kind of love can
die. That kind of love can fade or change or disappear forever.
Thank goodness there is a love that we can bet on because it'll never fail. God
promises that "neither life, nor death, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor
things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall
be able to separate us from the love of God" (Romans 8:38-39). In fact, distress and
persecution and famine and peril and tribulation can't separate from the love of Christ.
So remember this when you're brokenhearted over a relationship. Remember this
when you find yourself falling in love and tempted to forget God. Remember that He
loved you at your darkest, and He wants to bring you into the light and restore you to
the joy that comes from His presence.
