God Is Really Into you
Why is John so different from the other Gospels?
As we discussed previously, Mark, Matthew and
Luke are called synoptic gospels because they were
written from the same viewpoint (that’s what synoptic
means), written within a 15-year period. Mark was
written first, then Matthew and Luke copied from Mark
(97% of Mark is found in either Matthew and Luke) plus
another common source that no longer exists.
For example, the word Kingdom was mentioned
47 times in Matthew, 18 times in Mark, and 37 times in
Luke—but only 5 times in John. However, Jesus utters
the pronoun I only 17 times in Matthew, 9 times in Mark
and 10 times in Luke—but, He says I 118 times in John.
Point? For John, the Kingdom is the person of Jesus Himself.
We’ll explore what this means today. Here’s a hint: God is really into you. And He’s inviting you to trust Him.

I believe we are all God’s favorite.
I believe He has been telling us separately how He loves us and
perhaps the reason some people don’t feel it is because they don’t really
believe it.
For those who truly feel that they are loved by God are only the ones
who truly believe it.

When I became older, my mom told me that at various times in our
life, she would pull us, her kids, aside and tell us separately that we
were her favorite.
She would affirm us without the other one hearing it, “You are
the smartest, the kindest, the most generous person I know.” So
we all grew up believing we were the favorite. We all felt loved.
It makes me wonder: could Jesus have pulled aside all his
disciples and tell them separately, without the other one hearing
it, how He favored them? But then, it seems John was the only
one who really believed Him. If that’s true, that might explain to
me why John called himself the beloved. It was a nickname he

A Confession of a True Addict

For two years, I struggled
with a personal problem which
I’d rather not tell you about. Let’s
just say I was an addict.
It felt like I couldn’t get rid
of it, or more like something I
couldn’t let go of. I even attended
non-Catholic gatherings and
small groups thinking maybe this
could offset my sin.
When I go to these events, I’d
ask, why is there a need to raise
hands when singing? Why do
people cry when they talk about
God? Inspired and curious, I continued going but not enough to
be converted to their religion. I believe, there was no need. We
have the same God.
A year passed and I set a new goal for myself; different
from all that I ever set before. I promised to build a stronger
relationship with God.
Setting a goal like that was easy, accomplishing it was
another thing. I wish it was as easy as buying gadgets or
something I can book online.
Until a friend suggested I try The Feast.
My parents came along the first time I attended. This
surprised me because we haven’t been going to church together
for about a decade. You see, while my mother is a Catholic like
me, my father is a Born-Again Christian.
“Daddy, there’s Mass before the talk ha,” I kept telling him. “I
don’t mind you waiting outside.”
He insisted. “It’s OK,” he said. My mom smiled.
Wow! We’re hearing Mass as one family. I wanted to cry out
of joy! But I tried to hold my tears. I didn’t want my parents to
freak out.
Entering the hall, I didn’t expect to see a live band and so
many people! After the Mass, the talk started. Everyone was nice
and singing and before I knew it, my hands were raised in the air
praising God during worship.
I thought, so this is how it feels. I never knew this kind of love
exists. My heart swelled with love and joy for Jesus. I thought you
can only find this kind of love from your partner. But no, this is a
higher kind of love, and deeper too. In the middle of the preaching,
I ended up crying.
Overwhelming is the word to describe what I felt inside the
Plenary Hall. The same feeling I have every time I stand and sit
and pray and listen. For my parents and I have continued to come
since then.
Restless was my heart until I said I will serve the Lord more.
More than attending the Mass and listening to the preachers, I
wanted to be a Feast servant and so I signed up for a ministry.
Remember my addiction? I’m over it but I found a new one.
You guessed it right, I’m now addicted to serving God more.

God is chasing you.
Who was Luke?
• Not an apostle. Yet, he managed to write the
Gospel by hanging out with the right people;
Matthew, Mark and Paul helped him. Are the
people you’re hanging out with helping you to
write your own gospel?
• A doctor. God used Luke’s strength as a medical
practitioner. Figure out your own strength and
allow God to use it for His own glory.

• Wrote Luke and Acts. These two books of the
Bible comprise 25% of the New Testament. Like
Luke, you are writing your own gospel through
your words and your actions every day. What do
you want people to remember you by when they
read your gospel?
• Dedicated two books to Theophilus. This rich
man invested and helped publish Luke’s books.
Like him, invest in God’s kingdom. Use your
money and resources to promote and to finance
projects for the Lord.
• The only Gentile among the four Gospel
writers. His background didn’t stop him from
accomplishing God’s mission for him. Whoever
you are or wherever you’ve come from, you are
always qualified to serve the Lord.
The Gospel of Luke contains the Mission
Statement of Jesus – to proclaim the Good News
to the poor. What is your mission statement?
Hebrew word Ani means poor. In Jewish society, these
five groups of people were considered poor, outcast
and insignificant to society.
• Materially-Poor. Jesus came to uplift those deprived
of material wealth.
Our weekly prayer event called The Feast is not for
the rich only. It is for everyone, including domestic
helpers, those in rehabilitation centers, prisons, and
even those in the slums. And all of its mercy ministries
are for the poor.
• Women and Children. Back in those days, this group
is not even counted when pertaining to population.
But Jesus came for them. He even had women
disciples like Mary Magdalene, Mary and Martha.
Women should be treated with respect and
dignity. Help stop abuse on women.
• Sinners. During the old Jewish times, eating or
hanging out with sinners was considered shameful
and unlawful, such that the Jews questioned Jesus for
hanging out with them. In reply, He told the account
of the Prodigal Son saying, even with big or small sins,
God loves us. He comes running to us when we return
to Him.
• The other two groups, the Gentiles and the Sick.
