The picture shown on the left visualizes the shape of a <strong>litespeed</strong> ®<br />

needle. The enlarged image shows the partially reduced areas of<br />

the needle shank. Due to this shank geometry, the <strong>litespeed</strong> ®<br />

needle is more flexible, therefore, the needle is more resistant to<br />

needle break age at higher machine speeds.<br />

<strong>litespeed</strong> ® is a patented knitting machine<br />

needle by <strong>Groz</strong>-<strong>Beckert</strong> for use in high-performance<br />

circular knitting machines.<br />

The needle dimensions of the <strong>litespeed</strong> ®<br />

exactly match the dimensions of the<br />

corresponding standard needle.<br />

By par tially diminishing the thickness of<br />

the needle shank, a reduction of the<br />

needle weight and of the friction between<br />

needle and trick walls is achieved.<br />

Therefore, less energy is needed for the<br />

needle movement. As a result of this, the<br />

energy consumption decreases and lower<br />

machine temperatures can be achieved. In<br />

addition to this, the reduced machine temperature<br />

and needle weight minimize wear<br />

to the needle butt and cams.<br />

The partially reduced thickness of the<br />

needle shank improves the distribution of<br />

the needle oil. As a result of this, the knitting<br />

machine runs cooler, the oil consumption<br />

decreases and the oil fogging is<br />

minimized.<br />

The patented steel composite needles effectively<br />

combine the advantages of low profile meander shape<br />

needles with those of full shank needles.<br />

These needles are as insusceptible to contamination as<br />

conventional full shank needles. At the same time, they<br />

have all the productive advantages and capacity<br />

of low profile meander shape needles.<br />

They have proved successful in service with leading<br />

manufacturers for a number of years.<br />

The maintenance-free high performance steel<br />

composite needle<br />

Steel composite needles feature a double low profile, giving them the same efficient cushioning characteristics as<br />

low profile meander shape needles. The cut outs are filled with synthetic material, preventing dirt from collecting<br />

and eliminating the problem of contamination.<br />

TRANSFER WING<br />

A needle with a transfer wing is equipped<br />

with a transfer area in the shape of a wing<br />

in between the loop forming area and the<br />

needle butt. This wing is part of the needle<br />

shank.<br />

TRANSFER PROCESS<br />

This transfer wing helps to transfer a<br />

loop from one cylinder needle to its<br />

neighboring cylinder needle. With this<br />

technology it is possible to transfer loops<br />

within the same needle bed.<br />

ELASTIC RETAINER<br />

• The sinkers can be easily removed from the knitting machine<br />

for cleaning by lifting them out with the retainer and cleaning<br />

them. This means that the time-consuming work of lining<br />

them up again after the cleaning process is no longer<br />

necessary. The retainer can be ordered from <strong>Groz</strong>-<strong>Beckert</strong> by<br />

the metre.<br />

Needle oil analysis by <strong>Groz</strong>-<strong>Beckert</strong> is performed on a manufac turer-neutral<br />

basis and provides an indication to the customer of<br />

whether the needle oil they use is the right one for their specific<br />

knitting process. To do this, <strong>Groz</strong>-<strong>Beckert</strong> analyses and compares<br />

the customer’s specific oil data with that stored in the<br />

<strong>Groz</strong>-<strong>Beckert</strong> needle oil database, which lists the world’s most<br />

commonly used needle oil types.<br />

Once the analysis is complete, the customer is given a recommen<br />

dation regarding whether to continue using the current<br />
