…a word from our President!
Hi Corvetter’s:
Cannot believe it has been a
month since the last newsletter. Well it
is about time we start thinking about
voting for a new board, yes in three
months!! Cannot believe it has almost
been two years. So start thinking who
you like on the new board. We had a
sad time in August. One of our long
time members and great friend, Ed
Kroeker, passed away. He was like a
brother to me.
We had lots of laughs together.
Traveled together, we were competitive
with each other that is what brothers
do. Joyce, Jill and Jeff and family outdid
themselves on his funeral. It was
outstanding. They had about 300
hundred people attend. I was honored
that they asked me to an Honorary
Pallbearer. He will be missed!!!
Until next time, Your President,
Andy Anderson
SUNSHINE & CLOUDS
Aug. 21, 2018
Debbie Garrison
We lost our Dear Friend Ed Kroeker on August 15, 2018. Ed was a good friend and a
longtime CVC Member. He was funny, ornery, always had a smile on his face and loved to
have a good time. He was generous to so many including our CVC family sharing
Kroekerville whenever the opportunity arose whether it be Fourth of July celebration,
Mother’s Day, a picnic or one of our children’s weddings. They were always there for us.
We had so many adventures and good times and made so many memories together. Ed
and Joyce decided to get married on their first date but had to wait two weeks for Ed’s
next paycheck. Last month they were married 59 years. Ed loved his family, being a Dad,
a Grandpa and Great-Grandpa were his greatest joys. He had countless friends and with
his easy-going ways made friends wherever he went. He was a truly self-made man and
he and Joyce built a legacy to be proud of for years to come. His services were attended
by many of our Corvette Family past and present. It was a celebration of great man and
he will be missed! We were blessed to know him!
Deb & Charlie West are leaving us! They will be moving to a lake house in Bella Vista,
Arkansas. Deb sent me a note saying how much they enjoyed being members in Central
Valley Corvettes. “You guys welcomed us and we truly appreciate the friendships formed”
Their home in Visalia sold much faster than they anticipated and the new owners asked
for a short escrow. So, they are planning to leave CA on August 31 st . They don’t have a
lake house yet, but they will be staying at Deb’s Dad place until they find a permanent
place or a rental. We wish Deb and Charlie safe travels and the best of luck with their
new adventure.
Tom and Marcie Jarvis were involved in an accident coming home from the Colorado Run
near Bakersfield and their car was nearly totaled. Luckily, they weren’t hurt and came
away with just a few stiff muscles and some bumps and bruises.
Joyce Kroeker told me that “That every day is a gift”. Enjoy those gifts while they are
present in your life, tell those that matter that you love them or that you appreciate
them. Be the friend that you would like someone to be to you, treat people with respect
and that respect will be returned to you. Be kind, be humble and enjoy life blessings.
Your Sunshine Girl, Debbie G.

Patents hint at active aerodynamics for C8
Will mid-engined C8 Corvette get active side skirts and spoilers?
JONATHON RAMSEY Aug 16th 2018
In May of 2016, General
Motors filed patent applications for
an active aerodynamic system.
The patent papers featured
drawings of a C7 Chevrolet
Corvette, and described aero aids
that the system could operate on, including a front splitter, air dam, grille shutters, and rear diffuser.
That patent was published nearly a year later, in March 2017. Last month, GM had another three
patents published for specific active aero mechanisms: active side skirts, active spoilers,
and downforce-generating ducts. The application again used C7 Corvette drawings, leading people to
believe that the C8 is in line for the aero gadgets. The previous patent described the use of a sensor to
measure body height, and a controller used to adjust various aero surfaces to maintain the ideal height
relative to a reference plane. One special feature of that system was that it accounted for suspension
action and tire deflection. The latest patent app goes into the features such a system might control. The
active side skirts would be able to extend toward the road in order to contain airflow under the car and
streamline airflow around the rear wheels. The active spoiler could raise and lower the entire structure
by moving stanchions within rails set into the fenders, as well as pivot just the wing portion. In addition,
get this, one image in the patent app shows a movable spoiler on the roof. The downforce-generating
ducts, potentially placed on the roof and the lower portion of the vehicle, would hasten airflow past the
car, and could otherwise be used to produce a venturi effect. Should the mid-engined Corvette wear
such appurtenances, America's sports car would get more ammo to join a tech conversation dominated
by European marques. After pulling a no-show at this year's Detroit Auto Show, rumors say we will see
the C8 in Detroit next year. Or who knows, we might be seeing three – a standard flavor with an
evolution of the current 6.2-liter V8, one with the new 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V8, and a twin-turbo
version of that V8 with about 800 horsepower. Best to wait and see, though; looks like whatever we're
getting, and whenever we get it, it will be pretty good.
Hertz Celebrates 100 Years by Adding
Corvette Z06 to Rental Fleet
BY AARON BRZOZOWSKI, GM AUTHORITY— AUG 15, 2018
It’s mighty easy to get into trouble with 650 horsepower on tap, as anyone who has ever
driven the Chevrolet C7 Corvette Z06 can attest. Yet US car rental company Hertz is putting
its faith in Joe Sixpack, Susie Q., and the rest of the motoring public by offering examples of
the high-performance Corvette Z06 sports coupe for rent through select Hertz locations
across the United States. What could possibly go wrong?
The rentals, offered as part of a partnership with Chevrolet, are to celebrate Hertz’s
100 th anniversary this year, and appropriately, just one hundred examples of the highspeed
Corvette Z06 will be available to rent. Each one will be shod in yellow with dual black
stripes – Hertz’s official brand colors – and will roll on black-painted alloy wheels (19-inch
front, 20-inch rear) over yellow-painted brake calipers. Inside, Hertz customers will find a
custom black-leather interior with yellow stitching, and special Hertz badging that includes a
centennial anniversary plaque with each car’s specific model number.
Disappointingly, each of the 100 examples of the Hertz 100th Anniversary Edition Corvette
Z06 will be fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission; no manual-equipped examples
will be produced. However, if the Z06’s standard 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque isn’t
consolation enough, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10-speaker Bose audio, and builtin
4G LTE WiFi might do the trick.
Hertz Senior Brand Vice President Jayesh Patel. “We’re thrilled to continue to delight our
customers and build upon our legacy of superior service and unique vehicle offerings with
our special Hertz 100 th Anniversary Edition Corvette Z06.”

Behold the First 2019 C7 Corvette
Finished in ‘Shadow Gray’
BY SEAN SZYMKOWSKI, GM AUTHORITY - AUG 28, 2018
The National Corvette Museum had the honor of delivering the first 2019 C7 Corvette
Z06 finished in “Shadow Gray,” a new-for-2019 factory color.
The owners, Jim and Judy Schubert of Stockton, Illinois, originally selected a Watkins
Glen Gray Corvette, but the newly introduced color grew on the couple. Eventually,
the two opted for Shadow Gray.
Aside from paint colors and other minimal changes, the 2019 Corvette soldiers on
relatively unchanged for the model year. The car’s future remains in limbo as we
prepare for the mid-engine Corvette to debut in the near future. The most popular
theory involves producing both the C8 Corvette and C7 Corvette alongside one
another for an unknown amount of time. The Bowling Green, Kentucky, assembly plant
is also capable of building differentiated vehicles on a single line after retooling earlier
this year.
In the meantime, we are sure the Schubert’s will enjoy their shiny-new Shadow Gray
Corvette Z06.

Often referred to as the world’s largest moving automotive event, the National Corvette Caravan is a celebration
of America’s Sports Car, culminating in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the anniversary celebration of the
National Corvette Museum. Hosted only once every five years. The 6th National Corvette Caravan is slated for
August 28-31, 2019. Regional caravans will form and join other caravans as they travel across the United
States to meet in Bowling Green, Kentucky for four days of festivities at the National Corvette Museum. An
event such as this requires years of planning and coordinating. All help is appreciated! The Museum is located
at I-65, exit 28 in South Central Kentucky and is open daily, 8-5 Central Time.
