UPCOMING EVENTS AND NEW INFORMATION
We always are looking for new members to throw a helping hand in to
make our neighborhood better!
Some interest has been expressed in a walk around the lake we have
adjacent to our commons area.. Your MUD has complete control over that
area, please call and petition the MUD to add this feature to our area. It
could be a great value adding feature.
THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!
We would like to build a bank of volunteers to help with various activities
throughout the year! Poolside holiday events, National Get Out and Meet
Your Neighbors night. Your time and effort will be greatly appreciated
by all! The more volunteers we have, the more events that can take
place. Events that are meant to bring our community together just don’t
happen without these folks who give up their time and efforts for you.
Unfortunately, they are many times taken for granted, when in fact, they
are much appreciated by the Board.
WE ARE LAKESIDE RESIDENTIAL
HOA meetings held the 1 st Monday of the month at 6:30 PM. (Unless
Monday is a holiday, then will meet the following evening.) HOA meetings
will be held at the Cypress Crossing Christian Church, located at 15751
Cypress Rosehill Road, Cypress, Texas 77429. Executive Board meeting will
follow regular homeowners meeting.
Residents who will be present for the Board meeting are asked, if they
have any questions or concerns prior to the Board meeting to please
advise Sarie, so that she may prepare and direct questions and concerns
in a timely manner to the Board of Directors before the executive session.

We live in a development known as Villages of Cypress Lakes. Your
community is Lakeside. Our website is Lakesideresidential.com. By-
Laws, Deed Restrictions, Pool hours and card applications, a map of the
community showing sections by number, streets and entrances are all
there to better help you with your inquiries as well as responsibilities as
a home owner.
All payments made to the HOA should be made out to Lakeside Residential.
KID ACTIVITIES
We, as a community, have just a few amenities. We have a Pool, a Splash
pad for small children, a playground for small children. We have nothing
for teenagers or tween-agers 12 to 18. If you have any suggestions it would
be greatly appreciated.
What can we, as a community, do to give our kids activities they can be a
part of, enjoy and be clean, courteous involvements. Remember, these are
your kids. We all meet every month on the first Monday. Bring your ideas.

HEY NEIGHBOR…
We live in a neighborhood governed by a HOA. That means that as
homeowners, we agree to abide by rules and restrictions intended to keep
our neighborhood in good shape, to keep our property assessments rising
and to provide a platform for all neighbors to voice concerns about any
apparent discrepancies that may diminish your home value.
Whether we agree with the deed restrictions and covenants or not, the rules
and guidelines already exist. As members of the association, owners are
responsible for the upkeep on their properties and following the guidelines
of landscaping, paint, fencing and of course most importantly being a good
neighbor. Homeowners are required to maintain their properties, while not
making changes without approval. When you need to replace a fence, do it,
but it must be an exact replacement; Not taller, not shorter, nor a different
style. The community must look consistent and well planned. This concept
is appealing to new buyers and it also makes for good neighbors, etc. A few
of the most common HOA rules that apply to all of us are:
• Vehicle storage is not allowed on your lot, please have current registration
stickers on all your vehicles. They are supposed to be drivable. Covering
with tarps won’t help! The disabled cars parked in the driveway are in
violation of HOA guidelines and will initiate letters to homeowner. Any
disabled vehicle parked on the street is a county offense and should be
reported to the Constable.
• Inspect your fence for any missing or damaged fence pickets, we are
required to maintain and replace pickets as they deteriorate and fail
• Mow your lawn and edge the walks. It is required of every homeowner.
• Trashcans are not to be visible from the street. Place at curb the night before
only on garbage pickup days and retrieve the collection day by nightfall.
• When you order new cable or satellite service, remind the installer that
you live in a HOA and there are restrictions All of the installers are aware of
all restrictions and will gladly install correctly if they understand that you
are concerned about your HOA and therefore your home value.
• Door and or trim painting must be approved by via ACR, you can retrieve
an ACR form through the lakesideresidential.com website.
SUPPORT YOUR HOA (HOME OWNERS ASSOCIATION)
The Meeting of all homeowners and the elected Board of Directors is
at the Cypress Crossroads Church, 15751 Cypress Rosehill Rd. on the
first Monday of the month. If the first Monday is a holiday, then the
meeting is held the next day, Tuesday. You can find the meeting dates
at Lakesideresidential.com. The minutes of the meetings, as well as
governing documents, forms, community events, etc. can be found on
the website for homeowner review. Please, come to the meetings and get
involved. Together, we can make improvements to our community and
enjoy a more pleasant life among neighbors.
HAVE YOU REGISTERED ON THE FIRSTSERVICE WEBSITE?
Our management company is online to provide you with more convenience
and a wealth of online services with access to important association
documents and forms, owner accounts and more. Contact sarie.fellwock
@fsresidential.com. We understand there are times when contacting
someone or getting a response is difficult. If its not an emergency, please
bring it to the Board meeting. Don’t let issues loiter and become bigger than
need be. The day to day management of the community is FirstService. The
website to find any information about your account and general community
information is www.fsresidential.com/corporate/homeowners/find-mycommunity.
Your business account, all bookkeeping, Architectural change
request form is there as well. The Board of Directors communicates
through the management company. All concerns should be sent through
FirstService. All communications require your Email address to respond.
There are other documents that go out to you prior to each monthly
meeting to keep you up on what we will be discussing. Texas law leaves
the responsibility of correct Email addresses to the homeowner. Please
contact FirstService to ensure that we can keep you informed.

ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMITTEE
So you’d like to build an igloo or paint your house red and blue to pay
tribute to your favorite sports team? These are easily identified as requests
that would not be allowed in our neighborhood. But what are the kinds
of things for which you need to submit a request for approval to the
HOA? Basically, if you are making a change to your home or yard, you are
required to submit a request. Some common requests are:
• Installing a pool
• Replacing windows, doors or shutters
• Building a covered patio
• Installing a storage unit
• Installing an irrigation system
• Replacing your roof
• Painting your home/trim
• Removing/replacing the trees in your front yard
• Landscaping change in your front yard
All requests are processed in a timely manner. If you have not received a timely
response, please reach out to a Board member or your FSR contact person….
Keep in mind that approval may take up to 30 days - plan ahead! Submit
your application early, so that your project is not delayed. The ACC
committee is made up of volunteers and our goal is to provide a beautiful
and consistent look to our neighborhood.
REPLACING YOUR FENCE. This one is a little more complex. If you are
replacing your fence with EXACTLY the same fence (in the same place with
the same size boards and the same pattern), then you don’t need HOA
approval. However, if you are CHANGING anything - the pattern of the fence
(including installing rot board at the bottom), moving it, adding a gate or
changing the material of your fence, then you need approval of the HOA.
CONSTABLE PATROL 281-376-3472
As a reminder, the Association has a patrol contract with Harris County
Precinct 4 Constable, through MUD 391. Please add the dispatch number
to your cell phones or post in a visible place at home in case you need
support in a non-life threatening situation. If you don’t call to report a
crime or suspected criminal activity in progress or suspicious persons
or vehicles, no arrests will be made, the crime or criminal activity will
continue and the Constable’s Office will not know that anything is going
on. The social communities that we use to communicate with each other
is NOT monitored by the constables. Posting on any media site is not
notification to get assistance. Yes, we have those rare occasions where
a Deputy, by pure luck, drives up on a crime or suspicious activity in
progress. But why rely on luck when you have a telephone? The number
to call is 281-376-3472. If there is a life threatening emergency, call 9-1-
1. The Constable Patrol also offers a free vacation watch service, keeping
your home under watch while you’re away.
LOITERING AND VANDALISM
Please help us to keep our recreation areas safe and clean by reporting
any and all loitering after dark directly to the Constable at 281-376-3472.
Please also remember to report any suspicious persons walking around the
community or at the parks immediately to the Constable Patrol. Don’t call the
management co or HOA Director, We’re NOT the law! Better safe than sorry!
TRASH CANS
BEST TRASH is the service for Lakeside Residential, your community.
They can be contacted 281-313-2378. Check their website for holidays,
remembering they will pick up on the next regular pick up day.
• Please do not put trash out before the night before trash day and be sure
to pick them up after collection.
• Trashcans make the streets look very messy when not out for pick-up.
• Trash cans have the most violation letters sent out.
• Remember to place trashcans in the garage, backyard or behind a barrier
by the house, that looks nice and hides the can. The new barrier must hide
cans from street and be acceptable. Cans just stored by your house will get
you a compliance violation letter.

School’s Eleventh Annual Touch A Truck. Touch A Truck is a hands-on
event where kids and adults of all ages can explore and learn about

CFISD BRINGS SAFETY AND SECURITY TO
FOREFRONT WITH 2018-2019 ACTION PLAN
Following a summer of planning, the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD safety and
security committee unveiled its 2018-2019 Safety and Security Action
Plan at the Board of Trustees committee-of-the-whole meeting on Aug. 9 th .
Comprised of representatives of the CFISD leadership team, the committee
hosted a series of meetings throughout June and July to review current
security initiatives that are already in place as well as explore what
additional layers could be implemented for the district this year. Featuring
roundtable discussions with experts as well as input from all campus
principals and the Community Leadership Committee, the meetings
resulted in an action plan focused on prevention of, identification and
intervention of and response to potential security threats during a time
when the nationwide focus is on school safety.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s School and Firearm Safety Action Plan, released
on May 30 th , was used by the committee as a baseline to review school
safety and implement recommended strategies.

PREVENTION
The CFISD police department has increased its number of
commissioned police officers from 86 in 2017 to 108 for 2018-2019.
The department will also implement three K-9 units trained in
narcotics and nitrate detection. Two police officers will transition
into mental health officer positions to assist the guidance and
counseling and psychological services departments in addressing
mental health concerns on campuses.
Safety and security upgrades funded by the 2014 Bond Program
continue to roll out at campuses, including secured entry
vestibules, bullet-resistant glass, additional security cameras
and emergency call stations. Panic buttons will be installed in all
portable buildings in 2018-2019.
All students in grades 6-12 will be required to wear a student
ID badge during the instructional day and will join elementary
students in wearing the badges on board school buses. All school
visitors will be distinguished by a visitor badge issued at check-in.
Backpacks worn by secondary students on school property are
required to be clear backpacks. Belongings carried inside or outside
of the backpack are limited to no more than two non-transparent 6-
by 9-inch purse(s) or similar bag(s). Approved extracurricular bags
including instrument cases are permitted in the building but must
be stored in respective areas during the instructional day. Visitors
to Cy-Fair FCU and Pridgeon stadiums in 2018-2019 will be required
to limit bags to clear bags or a non-transparent 6-by-9-inch purse
or similar bag.
All campuses will implement procedures for limiting entry points
for faculty, students and visitors. The district will also continue to
explore the possibility of identifying exit-only doors and removing
door handles on certain doors. Food deliveries for students will be
prohibited by fast food delivery drivers.
IDENTIFICATION AND INTERVENTION
Campuses will continue to advertise the Cy-Fair Tipline for students, an
internal and anonymous reporting system. A visible button will be added
to each campus website for easy sharing with the CFPD and campus
administration. The CFPD will continue to work with the Houston Regional
Intelligence Service Center to identify potential threats on social media.
Two mental health intervention teams, each consisting of two licensed
professional counselors, a licensed specialist in school psychology and
a mental health school resource officer, have been developed to assist
students, administration and parents in developing a positive and
proactive plan for mental health. All teachers, counselors, district and
campus administrators, transportation and community programs staff
will undergo mental health assessment training prior to the start of the
school year. All elementary and secondary counselors will be trained on
completing threat assessment interviews.
RESPONSE
CFISD’s school safety and security committee will meet three times per
year and provide updates and reports to the Board of Trustees twice a
year. All campuses will continue to implement and practice emergency
operations plans, based on a template provided by the Texas School
Safety Center. All campus and district administrators will be trained in the
Standard Response Protocol and Standard Reunification Method prior to
the start of the school year.
All staff members will receive active shooter training prior to the start of the
school year, while all CFPD officers are required to complete active shooter
trainings such as ALERRT and ERASE as well as crisis intervention training.
A mental health crisis response team consisting of licensed behavior health
professionals has been formed to respond during critical incidents.

The Northwest Flyers Track Club Youth Cross Country Team kicks off the
fall season with a mandatory orientation meeting for parents and athletes
on Tuesday, September 10, 2018 at 6:30 PM at the D. Bradley McWilliams
YMCA at Cypress Creek outdoor pavilion, 19915 TX-249, Houston, TX.

The Northwest Flyers Track Club is a member program of USA Track and
Field (USATF), the national governing body for track and cross country. The

may participate in the team and both beginners and experienced runners

20 TH ANNIVERSARY ADAM J SKINNER MEMORIAL GOLF

Skinner Memorial Scholarship of the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation. In
the 20 years since the tournament was established, more than $111,000
has been given to the Adam Skinner Memorial Scholarship.
The Cypress-Fairbanks Educational Foundation
(CFEF) makes it possible to award the scholarship in Adam’s name for years
to come. The scholarship is funded by family and friends on holidays and
Adam’s birthday and a large portion has been donated from some of the
proceeds from the Adam J. Skinner Memorial Golf Tournament every year.
The Skinners wanted the scholarship to be given to a student who emulates
some of Adam’s traits and interests, someone who is outgoing, optimistic
and extremely energetic, possibly playing team sports, choir, high school
drama, debate or Boy Scouts of America participation. Thanks to these golf
tournaments, the scholarship amount was increased to $12,000 in 2017
and is available to any eligible Cypress-Fairbanks ISD graduating student.

SHOTS FOR HOLLY SLATES ANNUAL KICKOFF
Flu season is around the corner and the Shots for Holly crew is gearing up
for its busiest time of the year. Founder and president, Dr. Michelle Becker,
said the group’s annual kickoff party is slated for Saturday, September

kickoff party might seem odd for flu season, but this is the fifth year the

County Fair celebrates 150 Years of Texas History! Oldest county fair still
going strong! The Washington County Fair Association will celebrate the
Washington County Fair Sesquicentennial Celebration September 15-
22, 2018 in Brenham, TX. The Association and Long Films Studios will
commemorate Texas’s oldest county fair through a locally produced
documentary of former residents, multi-generational family accounts, fair
visitors, historians and participants to share their stories and experiences.
In addition, any newspaper, historical documents or former exhibits have
been shared for history recording purposes. The 2018 Washington County

ART COLONY ASSOCIATION TO CELEBRATE 47 YEARS
WITH BAYOU CITY ART FESTIVAL DOWNTOWN
The Art Colony Association, Inc. (ACA) will celebrate 47 years of fine art and
giving back to local non-profits as it spotlights 300 artists at Bayou City Art
Festival in Downtown Houston, Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14,
2018, 10 AM - 6 PM at 901 Bagby Street. Cost $12 online and $15 at the gate.
The sophisticated gallery will transform the streets of Downtown into
artistic avenues bursting with colors and culture. As one of the top outdoor
fine art festivals in the U.S., the weekend festival will provide guests with
the opportunity to see and purchase unique, custom art under the iconic
Houston skyline. Bayou City Art Festival Downtown will benefit local nonprofits
and feature live music in front of City Hall and throughout the festival
along with entertainment, beverage stations, food trucks and much more
for patrons to enjoy. In the Children’s Creative Zone, the festival’s non-profit
partners will host art activities for all ages and include a cool interactive
place to hang out.
Celebrating 47 years since the founding of the Westheimer Art Festival,
now known as Bayou City Art Festival, ACA has provided a venue for over
20,000 artists to showcase their work to thousands of art lovers from all
over the world. Every year, a new jury selects participating artists, some
new and some returning. This helps create a fresh and different festival
year after year.

8 th Wonder Brewery to present Richard Linklater’s hilarious 2003 comedy,

Comedy Night at HPL - Monthly on the 3 rd Thursday, 6-8 PM. Houston Public

Houston Public Library offers “Open Mic” comedy night where local and non local
comedians, comediennes, ventriloquists and impressionists of ALL ages present
family comedy to the audience. Improv Performers from Station Theater closes

in at least one open mic throughout the year become eligible to participate in the
Annual Comedy competition which is held in December. Prizes in the amounts

Carlos Cruz-Diez at the Cistern: Spatial Chromointerference - Weekly
through January 13, 2019. Cistern At Buffalo Bayou Park, 105 Sabine Street,

and Sunday - 11 AM-6 PM. Admission: $10 per person; $8 for Seniors, Youth
and Students. The Cistern’s distinctive architecture as well as its sheer size
and raw interior, punctuated by a series of rhythmical columns, will make for
an intriguing and interactive experience. Visitors to Carlos Cruz-Diez at the
Cistern: Spatial Chromointerference will be encouraged to wear white or light
colored clothing and will actively participate in viewing as the color changes
creating a sensation of movement.
Open House - Daily from dawn until dusk through February 28, 2019,
admission free. Sam Houston Park, 1100 Bagby, Houston, TX 77002. The
artistic duo, Havel Ruck Projects, made up of local artists, Dan Havel and
Dean Ruck, transformed a previously abandoned house into an interactive
temporary public sculpture. Sourced from Cherry House Moving Company,
the 1940s-era house was originally located in Santa Fe, Texas. After moving
the home to Sam Houston Park in April, Havel and Ruck stripped the
structure’s interior and exterior using drill saws and other tools. They cut
circular holes into the walls and filled them with PVC pipe to create a “Swiss
cheese” or “lace” appearance and collaged the interior walls with vintage
images sourced from family, friends and local resale shops representing the
city’s people, places and past.

The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes - Daily through September

Houston, TX 77030. Museum visitors will learn how Sherlock Holmes, a
scientific expert ahead of his time, used seemingly trivial observations of
clues others missed to solve some of his era’s most mysterious crimes. The
exhibition features original manuscripts and period artifacts, investigative
tools influenced and used by Sherlock Holmes and interactive crime-solving
opportunities. Guests will be transported into Sherlock Holmes’ London to
solve a crime in a world filled with innovation and experimentation and just
receiving its introduction to his ground-breaking methods.

Memorial Hermann Health System recognizes the vital importance of
volunteers and the newly opened Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital
is no different. The hospital is now taking applications for its volunteer
program. Volunteer tasks range from working at the front desk, to nursing
unit assistance, helping discharge patients and much more. Dozens of
volunteers have already joined the program, but there are more spots
available. Four-hour volunteer shifts are available seven days a week from
5 AM to 9 PM. Adults are asked to complete an application and schedule an

SPECIAL CHEERS NEEDS VOLUNTEERS
Special CHEERS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to
providing Occupational Therapy to children with special needs of all ages
living in and around the greater Houston area. Our facility is unique in that
we utilize animals, including horses, dogs, goats, pigs, lambs and rabbits
as an integral part of each child’s therapy treatment plan. Being a nonprofit
organization, we are constantly looking for extra help around the
farm. Therefore, Special CHEERS would like to welcome all high school
and college-aged students interested in working with both children and
animals to volunteer after school, on the weekends or seasonally (i.e.,

FOSTER CHILDREN:
PREPARATION FOR ADULT LIVING (PAL)
When foster children reach age 18, they are considered independent.
That’s difficult for kids who have been wards of the state, with necessities
arranged by caseworkers with state funds. Now they’ll have to figure out
how to organize themselves and make their money last a whole month.
Fortunately, Child protective Services offers them a program to help
prepare for independence: Preparation for Adult Living (PAL). The year-long
course culminates in an all-day workshop hosted by the National Council
for Jewish Women (NCJW). The course is held at Junior Achievement’s
BizTown, using computer kiosks sponsored by local businesses.

HOUSTON CY-FAIR LIONS CLUB NEEDING VOLUNTEERS
Houston Cy-Fair Lions Club meets the 2 nd and 4 th Tuesdays of each
month, at 7 PM, at the Lions Den inside Bane Park, at West Little York
near Gessner. Our building is at the back of the parking lot, large tan brick
building by the baseball fields. Wonderful catered meal each meeting.
Our Lions Club does community service projects, such as providing eye
exams and eyeglasses for needy children in the Cy-Fair School District,
provide full Christmas food baskets at Christmas for families in need, send
handicapped and diabetic children to the Texas Lions Camp and other
services. Come visit us and help make your community a better place to

Time now to make plans for fall landscaping projects.
• Clean up flowerbeds of fallen foliage, yellowed leaves and dead wood. Light green
leaves may signify lack of iron (chlorosis). Correct with iron cheleates.
• Cut off old dead foliage on irises. Scratch in a little bone meal around the roots.
• Prune roses to reshape and groom plants for fall growth. Follow up with a dose of
fertilizer the first week of September.
• Plants come out of summer rest and go crazy. Insect populations explode as we get
into cooler temperatures. Diseases that have been dormant wake up.
- Citrus, croton, avocado and mango are susceptible to spider mites and thrips.
Discourage them with a strong jet of water from a hose directed to the undersides of the
leaves.
- Hibiscus, citrus, palms, gardenia and ixora are susceptible to scale and mealybug.
• Winter vegetable gardens and perennials get planted.
• Wait until November to plant petunias and pansies.
• Fire ants baits should be put out in September-October to lessen the number of eggs
that make it to Spring.
• St. Augustine grass gets its fall fertilizer during September. Continue to mow at
maximum height. You want to leave a lot of leaf surface to produce carbohydrate
reserves for the winter.
• Keep an eye out for sod webworms. First sign of them is grass that appears to stop
growing. You need to get them early for biological controls to work. When the caterpillars
are only 1/4 inch, Bacillus thuringiensis applications can slow them. Bt is a bacteria
that works on the caterpillars’ digestive systems and makes them stop feeding. Do the
application late in the day. The larvae feed at night and you want them to get nice fresh
Bt.
• When the heat and drought end, the weather could bring brown patch disease in the
St. Augustine grass. Watch for yellowish spots if the nights drop into the 60’s and days
stay in the 80’s.
• Get any pruning of hedges and such done now. You want the flush of new growth to
be hardened-off before the end of October. Tree pruning should be put off until winter,
when the trees are dormant.
• Pre-emerge herbicide applications targeting annual bluegrass and the earliergerminating
winter broadleaf weeds needed to be put out starting in mid-August.

HOAGIE DIP
You could make this on National Eat a Hoagie Day September 14 th !
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 pound cooked ham, thinly sliced
1/2 pound Genoa salami, thinly sliced
1 pound processed American cheese, sliced
2 cups mayonnaise
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 onion, chopped
1/2 head iceberg lettuce, shredded
2 tomatoes, diced
12 hoagie rolls, torn into pieces for dipping

DIRECTIONS:
Tear the ham, salami and American cheese into small pieces. Place in a large bowl.
In a medium bowl, blend the mayonnaise and oregano. Mix the mayonnaise mixture into
the ham mixture 1/2 cup at a time, until meats and cheese are well coated. Mix in the onion.
Before serving, mix in the lettuce and tomatoes. Serve with the hoagie roll pieces for dipping.

APPLE DUMPLING
You could make this on National Apple Dumpling Day September 17 th !
INGREDIENTS:
1 pastry for double-crust pie
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled and cored
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 cups water
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch pan.
On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry into a large rectangle, about 24 by 16 inches. Cut
into 6 square pieces. Place an apple on each pastry square with the cored opening facing
upward. Cut butter into 8 pieces. Place 1 piece of butter in the opening of each apple; reserve
remaining butter for sauce. Divide brown sugar between apples, poking some inside each
cored opening and the rest around the base of each apple. Sprinkle cinnamon and nutmeg
over the apples.
With slightly wet fingertips, bring one corner of pastry square up to the top of the apple, then
bring the opposite corner to the top and press together. Bring up the two remaining corners
and seal. Slightly pinch the dough at the sides to completely seal in the apple. Repeat with
the remaining apples. Place in prepared baking dish.
In a saucepan, combine water, white sugar, vanilla extract and reserved butter. Place over
medium heat and bring to a boil in a large saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes or until sugar is
dissolved. Carefully pour over dumplings.
Bake in preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes. Place each apple dumpling in a dessert bowl
and spoon some sauce over the top.
