RUTAS MÁGICAS
EN CIUDAD DE PANAMÁ
Necesita varias vacaciones para conocer el encanto de Panamá. Ya aquí,
comience por Panamá Viejo, la primera ciudad española construida
sobre el litoral Pacífico americano, fundada el 15 de agosto de 1519. Fue
destruida en 1671 por el pirata inglés Henry Morgan.
De allí pase al Casco Antiguo (corregimiento de San Felipe), sitio al cual
se muda la ciudad de Panamá (1673) después del ataque pirata. En 1997
fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Teatro Nacional, iglesias de
valor histórico, plazas y una impresionante oferta gastronómica y de
diversión lo espera.
A cinco minutos de Casco Antiguo, la Cinta Costera, con vistas a la
bahía y el desfile de imponentes rascacielos. En bicicleta, caminando
o en carro, conecta con la Cinta Costera III y de allí con la Calzada
de Amador, sede del Museo de la Biodiversidad (Biomuseo), obra del
reconocido Frank Gehry, su única obra en Latinoamérica. En la Calzada,
también conocida como Causeway, puede hacer ejercicio, comer,
comprar artesanías y enamorarse del atardecer.

THE ASTONISHING ROUTES
OF PANAMA CITY
You will need more than one vacation to discover the enchantment of
Panama. Once here, we invite you to start by visiting the ruins of Old
Panama, the remnants of the first Spanish city on the Pacific coast of the
Americas, founded on August 15, 1519 and destroyed by English privateer Sir
Henry Morgan in 1671.
The flow of history will then lead you to the Old Quarter (San Felipe
District), the site to which the city of Panama was relocated (1673) after
Morgan’s attack. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1997. The National
Theater, a number of churches of great historic value, picturesque parks, and
an impressive culinary and leisure offer await you along the district’s narrow
streets.
A five-minute drive will lead you to the Cinta Costera, an esplanade that
provides views of the bay and Panama City’s impressive skyline. Via a maritime
overpass, the area is within easy access (driving, walking, biking) of the
Amador Causeway, which harbors the Museum of Biodiversity (Biomuseo),
which was designed by Frank Gehry and remains the sole work created by
the famous architect in Latin America. The Causeway is perfect for outdoor
exercising, dining, handicraft hunting, and for falling in love with the sunset.

PROVINCIA DE CHIRIQUÍ,
VERDE ENCANTO
La provincia de Chiriquí, en la costa occidental de Panamá, tiene por capital
David. En sus tierras se produce el café Geisha, el más caro del mundo,
y cuenta con la elevación más alta del país, el volcán Barú, un gigante
dormido. Puede llegar por avión y por tierra. Son múltiples las actividades.
Le recomendamos:
Tour de té: Organizado por Boquete Tree Trek. Permite a los amantes
de la tradicional bebida, conocer los pasos básicos para disfrutar de su
esencia.
Puentes colgantes: También con la gente de Boquete Tree Trek, es un
circuito de ocho puentes sobre el bosque. 4.5 kilómetros de recorrido.
Cata de miel: Emily Haworth es la creadora de la Miel Boqueteña. Sus
mieles tienen acentos típicos de la culinaria panameña.
Cata de café: Los productores de café aprovechan los espacios de sus
fincas y hoteles campestres para animar a conocer los secretos del grano.

CHIRIQUÍ PROVINCE,
THE COUNTRY’S GREEN ENCHANTMENT
Located on Panama’s westernmost border, Chiriquí features the city of
David as its provincial capital. The province’s fertile soil yields the Geisha
coffee, the world’s most expensive variety, in addition to harboring the
country’s highest peak, Volcán Barú –a veritable sleeping giant. Chiriquí is
accessible by plane or by overland transport and provides a wide range of
tourist activities, some of which we hereby recommend:
The Tea Tour: Organized by Boquete Tree Trek, this tour allows visitors
to learn about the steps needed for the full enjoyment of their favorite
beverage.
Suspension bridges: Also organized by the Boquete Tree Trek company,
this circuit includes a system of eight bridges over the forest –a journey
of 4.5 kilometers.
Honey tasting: Emily Haworth is the creator of Miel Boqueteña, the
honey of which bears the typical accents of Panamanian cuisine.
Coffee tasting: Coffee planters take advantage of their farms and country
inns to motivate visitors to discover the secrets of their crop. Popular
tours include those offered at Finca Lérida, Dos Jefes, and Río Cristal.

THE PANAMA CANAL,
MARVEL OF THE WORLD
The Panama Canal is the country’s pride and joy: It links approximately 1,700
ports in 160 countries, and is a passage for 144 maritime routes. Visitors to
Panama cannot miss this marvel of engineering. You may do so at the Miraflores
Locks’ Visitors Center (In Ancón, Panama City) or at its counterpart at Agua
Clara, Colón. If adventure is what you’re looking for, however, we invite you to
hire one of the companies that offer ferry services through the Canal. A ferry
trip, which lasts approximately 5 hours, will allow you to get a close look at
all the activity taking place at the locks and enjoy a landscape of forest-clad

capacity for between 100 and 400 persons, depending on the model. A bit of
trivia: the motor vessel, Islamorada was designed as a luxury yacht for Boston
millionaires, one its owners being the legendary Al Capone –definitely a piece

SOMBRERO PINTAO,
EL VALOR DE LO TÍPICO
Si desea lucir una prenda típica durante su estancia en Panamá, adquiera un
“sombrero pintao”, elaborado en el distrito de La Pintada, en la provincia de
Coclé.
La importancia de este símbolo cultural llevó a Unesco a declarar los
procedimientos y técnicas empleados en su confección como Patrimonio
Inmaterial de la Humanidad.
De abuelos a padres e hijos se transmite esta tradición, en la actualidad
preservada por más de 400 artesanos.
Es muy común creer que el célebre Panamá Hat es el sombrero tradicional del
país, pero en realidad, éste procede de Ecuador.
PANAMA’S SOMBRERO PINTAO,
THE AUTHENTIC PANAMANIAN HAT
If you wish to wear a true local headwear during your stay in Panama, we
invite you to purchase a “Sombrero Pintao”, which hails from district of La
Pintada, in the province of Coclé.
The importance of this cultural symbol has prompted UNESCO to declare
the procedures and techniques of its making an “Intangible Cultural Heritage”.
Sombrero Pintaos are a tradition that is passed from one generation to the
next, and is currently preserved by over 400 craftsmen.
It is a common misconception to think that the famous Panama Hat is the
country’s national headwear –it being, in fact, a product of Ecuador.

Situado en la provincia de Coclé, a dos horas de ciudad
de Panamá, su clima fresco y flores de eterna primavera,
vuelven cautivante la visita a este lugar, asentado en el
cráter de un volcán inactivo. Algunas propuestas para
aprovechar su viaje al máximo:
Mercado artesanal: puede conseguir variedad de
productos y artesanías típicas.
La India Dormida: Tour guiado de tres horas a la cima de
esta montaña de leyenda.
Zoológico El Níspero: finca privada con especies nativas,
entre ellas la Rana Dorada.
Aguas termales: hay varias opciones en hoteles pero
también un sitio público con cinco pozos.
Chorro El Macho: se llega al lugar por medio de senderos
naturales y puentes colgantes.
En El Valle también puede visitar el Monumento Natural
Cerro Gaital, el Centro de Orquídeas, el serpentario y el
Museo de la iglesia San José.
Por la naturaleza de sus paisajes, a los turistas les gusta
acampar, practicar el senderismo, ciclismo y en general
deportes conectados con el ambiente.

Located in the province of Coclé, two hours away from
Panama City, El Valle features the cool climate and flowers
of an eternal spring, captivating all visitors to this site,
which is nestled on the crater of an extinct volcano. Some
activities you can take advantage of while at El Valle are:
The Handicraft Market: offers a variety of produce and
handicrafts from throughout Panama.
The India Dormida mountain: a three-hour guided tour
will take you to the summit of this legendary mountain.
El Níspero zoo: a private farm of endemic species,
including the famous Golden Frog.
Hot springs: a number of hotels have their own options,

hot-spring wells.
El Macho waterfall: is accessible through nature trails and

Palmar, en San Carlos, destino de surf, ideal para relajarse en centros
de descanso y diversión, como Bay View Hotel. También se topará con
Santa Clara, que es ideal para un buen día de playa. Coronado, centro

es otro destino de verano y fines de semana. En Coclé, son imperdibles

who love the sea. Very close
to the city, a mere 15-minute
drive from downtown crossing the Bridge of the Americas, is Playa Bonita,
which counts the Dreams Delight Playa Bonita amongst its exclusive lodging
facilities. A bit further towards the west on the Pan-American Highway,
visitors will encounter the enchantment of Punta Chame, a meeting point
of windsurf and kitesurf enthusiasts thanks to its ideal combination of wind
and waves. Not far from there is El Palmar beach, in San Carlos a perfect
destination for surf, fun, and relaxation at lodging facilities such as the Bay
View Hotel. The same road will lead you to Santa Clara, which is ideal

El Agroturismo es un segmento
del turismo rural que invita a
los visitantes a participar de las
actividades agropecuarias de las
fincas en un ambiente seguro y
de calidad.
En nuestro país el Ministerio de
Desarrollo Agropecuario (MIDA) y la Autoridad de Turismo de Panamá (ATP) trabajan
de manera conjunta para desarrollar esta nueva oferta turística. Bajo el paraguas del
Convenio MIDA-ATP, existen alrededor de 50 fincas para la práctica del agroturismo
en las distintas provincias. Reúnen todas las condiciones de calidad y ofrecen paquetes
supervisados.
En las fincas el visitante descansa en contacto con la naturaleza. Aprende a cultivar
productos típicos como tomate, culantro y frutas; descubre la práctica del ordeño
manual y mecanizado, además de interactuar con animales, recoger miel de abeja,
degustar mermeladas caseras, café y chocolate. Incluso los turistas pueden conocer la
tradición de obtener jugo de caña de los populares trapiches.
Estas tareas se complementan con actividades como senderismo, canopy, pesca,
cabalgata y observación de aves con la asistencia de personal certificado.

DISCOVERING
NATURE THROUGH
AGROTOURISM
Agritourism is a variant of
rural tourism that invites
visitors to take part in
farm-related activities in an
environment of quality and
safety.
In Panama, the Ministry of
Agricultural Development
(MIDA) and the Panama Tourist Authority (ATP) work jointly in the development
of this new tourist genre. Through an agreement signed between both institutions,
50 local farms have joined the effort of providing agritourism opportunities
in various provinces. Said properties feature optimum conditions to welcome
visitors, who can choose from a variety of packages.
The experience allows visitors to relax in contact with nature, just as they learn to
cultivate staple crops such as tomatoes, Mexican coriander and fruits, in addition
to engaging in both manual and machine-assisted milking, interacting with animals,
harvesting honey, and tasting home-made jellies, coffee, and chocolate. Tourists
can also learn about the tradition of producing sugarcane juice at horse-powered
“trapiches”.
These activities are complemented by hiking, canopy tours, fishing, horseback
riding, and birdwatching with the guidance of certified personnel.

Costa Rica está a un paso desde tierra canalera, gracias a la conectividad que
ofrece la aerolínea Air Panamá, con vuelos desde el aeropuerto Marcos A.
