Despite the demands and the heavy schedule of his music career, Nathan makes sure
family is a priority, and it is evident in the growth and success of his son Noah. Nathan
acknowledges, “Balance is very important to me. I am living the dream musically and
otherwise but don’t want it to be at the expense of my family so I really try to keep a
balance my career and my family life.”
Noah is following in his father’s footsteps as a versatile and multi-dimensional musician.
At age 13, on his very first recording, Noah joined the elite rank of players on his father’s
first solo album ‘Nathan East’ that earned a Grammy nomination. Now 18-years-old,
Noah has been on tour around the world with his father. Nathan recalls some memorable
gigs they have done together at notable venues like the Blue Note in Tokyo, the Kawasaki
Jazz Festival in Japan and Festival Internacional de Jazz in Campeche, Mexico, where
Noah, a fluent Spanish speaker, also acted as interpreter for the band. Nathan adds that
the ability to share the time he spends musically with his son has been a cherished
experience for him to watch Noah develop a command of his musical voice, “It has been
amazing that he has been able to absorb that language and really understand it to a level
that as a father I could not be more proud.”
