This philosophy of ‘reverence’ is very reflective of the East family and seems to thread
their lineage. Nathan recognizes there is more that gets passed down than skills and
genetics, but also an approach and perspective on life. We circle back to the topic of
legacy.
Nathan adds, “I feel as though I’m looking at a major portion of my legacy in my
children, Noah and his twin sister, Sara. She runs track and that connects her back to my
father, her grandfather. Then I see Noah continuing down the musical path and that makes
me happy knowing he’s keeping that legacy alive. So at some point, it’s up to the people
who are still around to be the judges of what the legacy will become.”
“My mission is just to do the work and then whatever speaks
for itself will be the legacy,” he says.
As Noah (and Sara) prepare to attend UC Berkeley in the fall, Nathan approaches this
new chapter with excitement, “I always see opportunity for growth as a very positive
thing especially when you’re young and you’re firing on all cylinders. You have so much
available to you, resources. Body, mind, spirit are all there to help you. So to me, these
opportunities just become very exciting, a pivotal point in life.”
