Delray Under $50
Now that Delray Beach is a rising star in the art, culture and social scene,
it might seem a little difficult to find affordable activities, shops or
restaurants. I am here to prove you wrong. Delray Beach
offers a mix of high-end boutiques with laid-back
restaurants, and events for the whole family or
nightclubs for night owls. Here is what you can do
in Delray Beach in September for $50 or less.
Even though I haven’t met a hat that my mean-mugging face can
handle, that doesn’t stop me from trying. September is Fall
Hat Month, so pick out your favorite skull cap because you
have some streets to meander. The 24th Annual Downtown Delray
Beach Craft Festival is back again this year, and just in time for some
hopefully cooler weather. Held Saturday, September 22 and Sunday,
September 23, the Festival boasts numerous vendors, and the goods
for sale include mixed media, jewelry, pottery, wood, painting, books,
paper art, photography, sculpture, home goods, and more. The event
is held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and admission is free so you
have more funds for a new artistic addition to your home or office.
The Festival is located at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and
Atlantic Avenue, which is a great location for continuing the party
in a restaurant or bar downtown after you find that special
something. Show your hat a good time and it’ll be ready for you
the next time you want to strut your stuff. Visit www.artfestival.
com or call (561) 746-6615 for more information.
Chicken: it’s the original white meat that always tastes good, and
even has some super-hero healing powers, to boot. If you aren’t
in the mood to throw a bird in the oven for some fresh, goodfor-you
winner, winner chicken dinners, fear not, my poultry pal.
September is Eat Chicken Month and La Poulette
is a neighborhood gem where you can get
your total chicken fix. The restaurant
is a family-owned and operated,
quick-service concept that dishes
up breakfast, lunch and dinner.
They are proud of their “farm
to table” concept and freshly
make all of their menu items
to order, just like in “old times
in France.” Their chickens are
all natural, free roaming, antibiotic
and hormone free, and
roasted with farm fresh herbs
and spices and slowly cooked
in their rotisserie oven. You can
enjoy a half bird with one side
for $15 during lunch, or a whole bird plus two
sides for you and your family for $27 during
dinner. If you’re in the mood for breakfast,
stop by for weekend brunch and enjoy
the Forestiere French Brie Cheese omelet,
which is made with pulled chicken, mushroom,
French Brie cheese, caramelized onions
and Caesar dressing for $12. Or, sink your teeth
into the Poulette Sandwich, made with chicken,
bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, caramelized
onions and herbed aioli on ciabatta bread
for only $10 during lunch. So be a happy and
healthy chicken head and celebrate all month
long with delicious food. La Poulette is located at
215 N.E. Sixth Ave. Visit www.lapoulettefl.com or
call (561) 908-2396 for more information.
Libraries are some of the coolest places on the
planet. It’s one location where you can learn
pretty much everything about everything. And
if they don’t have the book you’re looking for, they’ll even order it for
you! September is Library Card Sign-up Month and is the perfect time
to either dust off your library card and rent a book or seven, or march
in and sign up for a new card. Not only does our local library, the Delray
Beach Public Library, have books galore, but they also host a ton
of events where you can socialize, learn, exercise and more. One of the
programs is the Writer’s Studio, which is held Saturday, September 8
from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is open to serious writers who are seeking
to polish their work for future publication. Or, if you want to move a little
bit, join the free Yoga @ The Library event on Monday, September 10
from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Just wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat or a
towel to lie on. The class even includes a meditation session at 6:35 p.m.,
which is a great way to mentally prepare yourself for the work week
ahead. If you are interested in a fun book discussion, join the Evening
Book Discussion Group on Tuesday, September 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The event is a friendly book discussion for people of all backgrounds,
and meets on the second Tuesday of the month. The Delray Beach Public
Library is located at 100 W. Atlantic Ave. Visit www.delraylibrary.org or
call (561) 266-0194 for more information and to register.
