NOMINATING NIGHT MEETING
NOVEMBER 17th
Note Meeting Time Change
As specified in the By Laws, Article VI,
Section 2, a regular meeting of the CPYC
membership will be held Wednesday, November
17th at 7:00 PM specifically to
elect a nominating committee and to address
any other business to come before the
membership. Prior to the meeting there
will be the traditional diner at 6:00PM.
Membership planning on attending the
dinner should sign up in the Pilot House
three days prior to the meeting. PLEASE
NOTE:Both the dinner and meeting are
scheduled one hour earlier than usual.
All members are requested to attend to
elect a five member nominating committee
in accordance with Article VII Section 2 of
the By Laws and to consider other business
as denoted on the Call of the Meeting
dated November 4, 2004.
The first motion to come before the membership
is from the Board of Directors,
Finance Committee and Capital Improvements
Committee. It requires a 2/3 vote of
those in attendance to pass. This motion is
to authorize restoration and improvement
of four projects. It is broken into four parts
for clarity and ease of discussion. The
Capital Improvements Committee will
make a presentation explaining the details
of the projects. The Finance committee
will review ways to accomplish the projects.
The first project involves structural improvements
to the underpinnings of the
club. As a preponderance of the club is
over salt water it is important to continually
evaluate and correct any damage incurred
by the elements for the structural
survival of the property.
The second project addresses repairing and
replacing the floor of the Pilot House , and
renovating the Pilot House. The last time
there was a major renovation of the Pilot
House was following the Blizzard of 1978,
26 years ago, when the floor, which is over
water , fell into the sea. Some minor renovations
have been accomplished, but the
project needs completing.
The third part of the project addresses installing
kitchen facilities in the pilot house
to enable the capability for light food
preparation. This has been a subject of
discussion for some time.
The fourth project would replace the exterior
siding of the club house. As lead is no
longer allowed in paint, it is almost impossible
to hold exterior paint for a reasonable
time with out peeling, especially in close
proximity to salt water.
Motion two deals with an increase in the
Capital Improvement Fund Payment to
help cover the expense of the restorations
and renovations.
Motion 3 would give the Board of Directors
authority to obtain a mortgage on our
property.
This is an important meeting for the club.
Please attend, ask your questions, and listen
to those who have done the research.
Vote your opinion and accept the opinion
of the majority for the betterment of the
second 100 years of CPYC.

10AM for the children and grandchildren
of members. Heidi and Tom Montgomery
will chair the event and are looking for
volunteers to help. If you are interested

Meet the New Members
John Ristuccia and Michele Messino live
in Winthrop with children John and
Carly. John is involved in the home improvements
and renovation industry. Welcome
to new member Grace O’Leary and
her daughter, Samantha. Grace lives in
Winthrop and is a chef.
A financial planner from Winchester,
Mark Sheppard, his wife Maria, and
children Sam, West and Sydney know
several youth sailing parents. As they have
an N-10, they will most likely be participating
in the youth sailing program.
Chris Lanza is no stranger to CPYC as he
is Frank and Carly Lanza’s son and
sailed Star Boats for years. A lawyer in
Miami, FL, he has a son Andrew.
From Revere, Mary Lou Clifford works
in the field of women’s health care. She
has a daughter, Gina.
Jeffrey Meskell is a contractor from East
Falmouth. He and his wife, Anne will be
enjoying their power boat Noon Somewhere.
A veterinarian, William Looby, Jr. and
his wife, Deborah, live in Winchester.
Look for them enjoying their 30” power
boat, C-DEB.

As we reach the end of CPYC’s 102 year it seems appropriate to remember some of

Youth Sailing’s Cup Night Features
Awards Presentations and Make a Wish Donation
A highlight of the Youth Sailing Program is their Annual Cup Night which
was held Saturday October 16th.
In keeping with past custom, a check from
the Make a Wish Regatta is presented to a
foundation representative. This year Chairperson
Rick Roberts gave a check for
$30,000 to Joanne Spolane (pictured left)
of the Make a Wish Foundation. Rick told
those attending that the figures were not
100% complete and he expected to add
another 5-6 thousand to this amount.
Joanne thanked everyone who helped to
raise this money, presented a wish drawing
to CPYC, and gave a brief talk about wish
children.
Over the past several years the Windjammer has made reference to the influence
of this regatta on the CPYC youth. The picture upper right exemplifies
this. These young people, after sailing in the regatta all day, set up a lemonade
stand and decided to donate the proceeds to Make a Wish. They realized
approximately $55 which they proudly turned over to the Make A Wish
committee. Joe Griffin has to be credited for spearheading this adventure.
Following Recognition and Twilight Participation awards, specific awards were presented. The Baker Award was presented to
Gianna Guarino (pictured below) by Dottie Merrill. Ralph Baker was a longtime
member and Past Commodore who played a significant role in increasing the quality of
our sailing programs. This award goes to the son or
daughter who has significantly contributed to the
CPYC sailing program in a manner that best typifies
the ideals of one of our most influential members.
Dan Mullane announced the Loomis Award. The
Charles “Chuck” Loomis Award is given to an unsung
hero of the youth sailing program. He/she is an
individual who regardless of win/loss record has contributed
in an unselfish and positive manner to the
program. This year Chelsiea Goll (pictured to right
with Dan Mullane) is the recipient.

The Fulham Award goes to any
junior sailor under the age of 19
regardless of the class of boat he
or she sails. The award is based on
participation, interest, enthusiasm
and sportsmanship, not on a win/
loss record. Hatch Brown presented
the award to Julia Vannoni,
(pictured left.)
This year Hatch made a special
presentation. He received two tee
shirts from a former MIT sailor
who sailed in the 2004 Olympics
for the Bermuda Women’s Team.
Hatch gave the shirts to Courtney McKinnon and Gianna Guarino (pictured right)
because their smiles most reminded him of his former student, now an Olympian. The
awards for Most Improve Sailor were given as follows: Advanced N-10– Courtney
McKinnon; Laser—Sam Roberts; Intermediate N-10—Peter Hanson; Beginner N-
10—Matt Todisco. Next the Club Championship was awarded. In N-10’s: 1st - Julia
Vanoni and Kaliegh Marcott; 2nd Courtney McKinnon and Genavive Bradley; 3rd
Gianna Guarino and Ally Stellati; 4th Angela and Tye Pettee; 5th Casey and Chelsiea
Goll. Eric Ronan won the Laser club championship with Sam Roberts second and
Jessica Curley ,third.

Storing chains for the winter
Marina Weekend Fall 2004
Marina weekend dawned crystal clear, cold and very windy. The wind made nesting the floats inside
the easterly marina a challenge.
The guys had to wait for
brief wind let ups to move some
of the floats from the westerly
side of the marina. However, under
the direction of chairman Paul
Leary, the Marine Facilities
Committee, marina occupants,
and other volunteers, everything
was successfully accomplished
and made ready for winter.

Phyllis McKinnon, manager of the CPYC Store, reports that there is an order book in the Pilot House with order forms for
CPYC merchandise. Orders marked attention to Phyllis, may be left in the Pilot House and need to be placed before November
25th to be in time for Christmas delivery. You can also place an order by emailing Phyllis at Phyllis McKinnon@aol.com
The store will be open for shopping during the Friday Night Dinners in November and December., Breakfast with Santa, The
Women’s Bowling Banquet, the Pilot House Christmas Party, and a couple of Sunday afternoon after frostbite sailing which will
be posted at the club. Look for times to be posted. Phyllis is looking for volunteers to help at the club sales events. Anyone interested
please contact her.
