ALISON BURTON AND FAMILY would like to share their thanks and appreciation to <strong>St</strong> <strong>Mary</strong> <strong>Redcliffe</strong><br />

and its congregation for the funeral service of Geoffrey Burton on Mon 3 Sep.<br />

MICHAEL VOOGHT will be retiring as one of our associate clergy later this year, with his final mass<br />

taking place on Sun 23 Sept. To thank him for his dedication, we would like to get him a nice<br />

retirement gift. If you would like to make a contribution, please give donations to the <strong>Church</strong><br />

Wardens or the Parish Office.<br />

REDCLIFFE AUTUMN FESTIVAL On Sun 14 Oct, there will be an event across different venues in<br />

<strong>Redcliffe</strong> to showcase all the good things going on in the local community. This will run 2-5pm,<br />

with stalls and activities from different groups. Do pop the date in your diary – everyone is<br />

welcome! Our community workers, Rachel and David, are looking for anyone who might like to<br />

DOORS OPEN DAY: We are still looking for some extra volunteers to help out on the day! There is a<br />

list of the roles and a sign up sheet at the back of <strong>Church</strong>. You can also contact Andy<br />

(andrew.carruthers@stmaryredcliffe.co.uk), Evelyn (evelyn.burtonguyett@stmaryredcliffe.co.uk)<br />

or call 0117 231 0060. Hymn Singalong will also be performing on<br />

the day from 1.30pm – please do come and join them!<br />

MARY’S MEALS It’s back to school – and it’s the time of year we come together to support our<br />

African friends access an education. You can support this very worthy cause in three ways: By<br />

donating toiletries, clothing and stationery, By donating a backpack (either empty or with<br />

donations), By making a monetary donation towards a backpack (purchased at £2.99) by the end<br />

of <strong>September</strong>. Any donations received after this date will be paid directly to the charity. For<br />

A CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE AND WORK OF THOMAS HARDY: Mon 10 Sep, 1.10 pm. Saint <strong>St</strong>ephen's<br />

<strong>Church</strong>, Bristol City Centre. Recitalist: Auriol Britton. A short talk about the poet's life, followed<br />

by a recitation of some of his most wellknown poems. Duration: 45 minutes. Admission free,<br />

retiring collection in aid of lunchtime concerts at the church. All welcome: books, cards, CD's<br />

BRISTOL HALF MARATHON: there will be road closures around the church on Sun 23 Sep. There are a<br />

few leaflets at the back of church with more details.<br />

SEEKERS: This academic year Seekers is running a course called ‘Faith Pictures’. Full details on the<br />

cards at the back of church. We start THIS THURS (13 Sep) 7.30pm in the Vicarage with Freshers<br />

Week! More info from Dan Tyndall.<br />

CONFIRMATION: This year’s confirmation service will be here (at SMR) on Wednesday 28<br />

November at 7.30pm. We don’t yet know whether our new bishop, Rt Rev Viv Faull, will be<br />

taking the service – but let’s hope! Prep. sessions are about to get underway so if you would like<br />

to be Confirmed please speak to Dan Tyndall (adults) or Kat Campion-Spall (all age group)<br />

REDCLIFFE WAY: Bristol City Council have agreed funding of more than £3million to changes to the<br />

road layout on <strong>Redcliffe</strong> Way. Changes are now really underway to bring 200 new (mainly<br />

affordable and family) homes just outside the church!<br />

REMEMBRANCE: Do you have anything that comes from WWI? If so, please do speak with me so<br />

that can add it to our collection of memorabilia (so far we have medals, postcards, diaries and a<br />

Communion set used in the trenches) that will be on display for the evening service on Sun 11<br />
