DORIS
LAUNCHES
THE URA
WRITER’S
CLUB.

“Writers live twice. They go
along with their regular life
but there’s another part of
them that they have been
training. The one that lives
everything a second time”
remarked CG, Doris Akol
echoing Natalie Goldberg’s
words as she launched the
writers’ club recently.
Present were the Assistant
Commissioner Public and
Corporate Affairs Division
(ACPCA) Vincent Seruma,
Manager Public and
Corporate Affairs (MPCA),
Ian Rumanyika, the Media
Management Team and
the URA Writers Club
members.
A call to staff was made
earlier this year which
yielded 50 applicants. Out
of these applicants, 19
successfully undertook the
writing exercise elevating
them into an exclusive
membership of the first

URA Writers’ Club.
From a set of specific
topics given to the
writers, they wrote
articles which were then
assessed by two external
experts Dennis Katungi,
the media manager of
Uganda Media Centre
and Robbie Kakonge,
the spokesperson of the
Ministry of Security.
Grace Vivian Asiimwe
(CGO), Davis Tashobya
(Customs) and Chemonges
C Georgina (Customs)
emerged 1st, 2nd and 3rd
respectively. The trio took
home beautiful plaques for
their excellence.
Adherence to the topic,
word count, originality,
article analysis as well
as the ability to beat the
editorial deadline were
thoroughly tested for these
are very pertinent traits to
carry in a news room.
