Dear Colleagues,
There is one question that many of us have
been asked time and again whenever doing
our work as tax collectors. That question is
what do our taxes do? Initially, we did not
seem to have a clear answer because our
mandate is to collect revenue. However, it is a
question that we can no longer avoid. To
address this gap in information, I am glad to
inform you that we have made tremendous
progress in harnessing our communication
efforts with other Government Communicators
through a consolidated forum (GCOF) of
communication experts representing Ministries,
Departments, Agencies and Authorities from
different economic sectors. Through this
forum, high on the agenda is to annually
showcase what the money we collect does
through an exhibition at the Kololo
Independence grounds.
This year, the exhibition as one of the various
activities to celebrate our taxpayers will be
held for three days and will involve about 150
MDAS. The theme of the celebrations is
Stronger Together. On one of the days of the
taxpayer week celebrations, we will have a
national corporate social responsibility (CSR)
day across the country. I urge you all to
embrace and invite as many people as you can
to attend the free exhibition.
At the exhibition, they will have tremendous
information about various government
services.
The Taxpayer Appreciation week is a
Government initiative started in 2017 where
MDAs come together to showcase the impact
of the budgetary allocation to the
communities.
So many new things are happening this year,
we for instance have a writers’ club with
composition from almost all of the
departments.
We are moving into our new home and have
started off the financial year with a revenue
collection surplus.
I kindly request all of us to keep our hands on
the deck as we develop Uganda in our
respective roles.
