As a group, Aktive and delivery partners Sport Auckland,
Harbour Sport, Sport Waitakere and CLM Community
Sport have just completed the second year of this
four-year plan. Momentum is building and there is a
firm focus on continued implementation. Much of this
implementation is handled by our partners who are
delivering on specific outcomes in their communities.
To understand these outcomes, local insights and
community and stakeholder consultation are imperative
and ongoing – in fact, they the cornerstone of
The Auckland Approach to Community Sport.
This understanding has seen the establishment of 22
geographic Communities of Activity (CoAs) across
Auckland that are aligned to the target priority groups.
Each CoA has a specific delivery plan with activities
across the five key areas.
In addition to working right across Auckland, we are
focusing significant efforts in these communities to help
shape delivery and connect initiatives, programmes and
facilities with potential participants through a locally-led
approach.
This is an exciting and dynamic approach to sport and
recreation in a growing, increasingly diverse Tāmaki
Makaurau, designed to make Auckland the most active
city in the world by helping Aucklanders to be healthier,
happier and more connected to other people.
In employing this community sport strategy, our work
as a group is delivering positive results with a number
of these featured in this issue of InterAktive.
