SPECIAL EVENTS<br />
• SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES -<br />
Thursday, <strong>October</strong> 4 th , 6:30 PM, Meeting Room. Andrew Hardwick,<br />
Public Affairs Specialist for the SSA, will provide an overview of<br />
disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and<br />
the qualifications and application process for each. Learn about other<br />
Social Security programs that are available and how to qualify for them.<br />
Hardwick will also demonstrate how to access one’s work record online<br />
and how to use other online services. Those attending this workshop<br />
may want to set up a “my Social Security” account online at www.<br />
socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and print out a Social Security Statement<br />
before arriving at the class so that Hardwick may address any questions<br />
they have.<br />
• CROCHET WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS - Saturday, <strong>October</strong> 6 th ,<br />
9 AM to 12 noon, Meeting Room. In this hands-on adult craft class for<br />
individuals aged 16 and above, library staff member Marie Picon will<br />
describe essential tools, materials and techniques used for crocheting.<br />
Learn about the different yarns that can be used for varying effects and<br />
how crochet hooks differ from other types of needlework tools. Those<br />
attending the program will master multiple stitches, practice crocheting<br />
in the round and receive ideas for using their new skills in simple projects.<br />

Materials for the class will be provided thanks to the generous support<br />
of the Friends of the Bob Lutts <strong>Fulshear</strong>/Simonton Branch Library. No<br />
previous crochet experience is necessary. Reservations are required.<br />
• MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW -<br />
Saturday, <strong>October</strong> 20 th , 10 AM, Meeting Room. Fort Bend Photography<br />
Club member Don Simmons will share his expertise and unique approach<br />
to macro photography - extreme close-up photography, usually of very<br />
small subjects. Learn about the equipment that is needed, including<br />
where to buy it, the average cost of the equipment and how to build<br />
certain components. Simmons will provide tips on capturing better<br />
macro photographs as well as cleaning up and enhancing images after<br />
they are taken.<br />
• FULSHEAR BOOK CLUB - Monday, <strong>October</strong> 15 th , 12 Noon, Meeting<br />
Room. The book to be discussed is the <strong>2018</strong> “Gulf Coast Reads” selection,<br />
Bluebird, Bluebird, written by Attica Locke.<br />
• FULSHEAR NIGHT READERS GUILD - Monday, <strong>October</strong> 22 nd , 6:30 PM,<br />
Meeting Room. The book to be discussed is The Boys from Dolores: Fidel<br />
Castro’s Classmates from Revolution to Exile, written by Patrick Symmes.<br />
Weekly CHILDREN’S PROGRAM<br />
• Toddler Time - Tuesdays at 10:15 AM, offers caregiver/child activities,<br />
stories and songs for older babies, from 12 to 36 months of age.<br />
• Story Time - Wednesdays at 10:15 AM, 3 to 6 years of age, presents<br />
stories, movies and participate in age-appropriate craft activities.<br />
• After-School Breaks - 2 nd Thursday at 4:30 PM - Crafts, movies, stories<br />
for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5. The program on <strong>October</strong><br />
11 th will be “Fall for Scarecrows.” Materials will be provided through the<br />
generous support of the Friends of the Bob Lutts <strong>Fulshear</strong>/Simonton<br />
Branch Library.<br />
