SPECIAL EVENTS
• SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES -
Thursday, October 4 th , 6:30 PM, Meeting Room. Andrew Hardwick,
Public Affairs Specialist for the SSA, will provide an overview of
disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits and
the qualifications and application process for each. Learn about other
Social Security programs that are available and how to qualify for them.
Hardwick will also demonstrate how to access one’s work record online
and how to use other online services. Those attending this workshop
may want to set up a “my Social Security” account online at www.
socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and print out a Social Security Statement
before arriving at the class so that Hardwick may address any questions
they have.
• CROCHET WORKSHOP FOR BEGINNERS - Saturday, October 6 th ,
9 AM to 12 noon, Meeting Room. In this hands-on adult craft class for
individuals aged 16 and above, library staff member Marie Picon will
describe essential tools, materials and techniques used for crocheting.
Learn about the different yarns that can be used for varying effects and
how crochet hooks differ from other types of needlework tools. Those
attending the program will master multiple stitches, practice crocheting
in the round and receive ideas for using their new skills in simple projects.

Materials for the class will be provided thanks to the generous support
of the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library. No
previous crochet experience is necessary. Reservations are required.
• MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW -
Saturday, October 20 th , 10 AM, Meeting Room. Fort Bend Photography
Club member Don Simmons will share his expertise and unique approach
to macro photography - extreme close-up photography, usually of very
small subjects. Learn about the equipment that is needed, including
where to buy it, the average cost of the equipment and how to build
certain components. Simmons will provide tips on capturing better
macro photographs as well as cleaning up and enhancing images after
they are taken.
• FULSHEAR BOOK CLUB - Monday, October 15 th , 12 Noon, Meeting
Room. The book to be discussed is the 2018 “Gulf Coast Reads” selection,
Bluebird, Bluebird, written by Attica Locke.
• FULSHEAR NIGHT READERS GUILD - Monday, October 22 nd , 6:30 PM,
Meeting Room. The book to be discussed is The Boys from Dolores: Fidel
Castro’s Classmates from Revolution to Exile, written by Patrick Symmes.
Weekly CHILDREN’S PROGRAM
• Toddler Time - Tuesdays at 10:15 AM, offers caregiver/child activities,
stories and songs for older babies, from 12 to 36 months of age.
• Story Time - Wednesdays at 10:15 AM, 3 to 6 years of age, presents
stories, movies and participate in age-appropriate craft activities.
• After-School Breaks - 2 nd Thursday at 4:30 PM - Crafts, movies, stories
for school-aged children in grades 1 through 5. The program on October
11 th will be “Fall for Scarecrows.” Materials will be provided through the
generous support of the Friends of the Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton
Branch Library.
