St Mary Redcliffe Church Free Lunchtime Organ Cencert - October 11 2018 (Alison Howell and Andrew Kirk )

Alison Howell began learning to play the organ with Eric Hemery in Devon.
She continued her studies with Dr. Peter Hurford at the Royal Academy of
Music and graduated with BMus (LondonIn 1987 Alison gained the Fellowship
of the Royal College of Organists and won the prestigious Coventry Cathedral
Recital Award for outstanding performance of the pieces.
Alison is based in Bristol where she works as a freelance musician. Alison is
currently the accompanist for the Avon and Somerset Constabulary Male
Voice Choir, Cheltenham Choral Society, Redmaids’ High Junior School Choir
and the University of the West of England Singers and Chamber Choir. She is
organist of St John the Baptist Church, Keynsham.
As a recitalist she has played in many cathedrals, concert halls and churches.
Recent venues have included Bath Abbey, Truro Cathedral, St Mary Redcliffe
Church, Westminster Cathedral and the Central Freemason’s Hall.
Andrew Kirk has been Director of Music at St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol
since 2003. He has responsibility for three choirs at the church. He regularly
gives recitals on the famous 4-manual Harrison and Harrison 1912 pipe organ.
He has recorded an organ CD Redcliffe Restored which received a
Gramophone Award. In the past few years his recitals have included Coventry,
Leicester, Gloucester, Truro, Blackburn, Llandaff Cathedrals, Tewkesbury
Abbey, St Mary’s Warwick and Temple Church, London.
Born and educated in Leicester, at St John’s Primary School and Leicester
Grammar School, he won an Organ Scholarship to Pembroke College, Oxford
where he studied organ with David Sanger. He spent 2 years in Western
Australia as Assistant Organist at St George’s Anglican Cathedral in Perth He
holds the FRCO Diploma, and gained the Turpin and Durrant prizes for organ
playing.
