S Indicates a book is part of a series Star Read The Day I Became the Most Wanted Boy in the World Tom McLaughlin (Walker, £5.99) Debbie DANCE CLASSES FOR AGES 2-19 Fortitude Text © D J Williams <strong>2018</strong> All Pete wanted to do was spend a nice afternoon in front of the TV watching snooker. He thought having to go shopping for his mum was spoiling his plans, but little did he know how much worse things were about to get! Bumping into a robber and an accidental exchange of notes leads him and his (not) friend being mistaken for thieves and the trouble escalates from there into complete mayhem. Everything they do to clear things up only makes things worse. Worrying for Pete, but hilarious for us as readers. See how it all pans out in this breathtaking adventure with non stop action. With large print and some pictures it is great for newly developing readers. Super Frozen Magic Forest S Matty Long (Hodder Hb, £6.99) The Ice Queen has frozen the Magic Forest with a magic spell. Everyone is suffering, will the super Magic heroes, Blossom, Herbert, Hoofus and Twinkle be able to reach the Ice Queen and break the spell, without being frozen to death? It’s going to be a tough call. This is a wonderful picture book full of amusing, far fetched characters. With a few sentences in large print and each double page depicting a scene from their journey there’s lots going on and plenty to discover, enjoy and discuss. A joy for new readers and fun for all abilities. Tom and Tallulah and the Witches’ Feast S Vivian French (Walker, £5.99) Tallulah has been given one last chance to stay as a witch’s apprentice, but it means preparing a feast and to say she isn’t a good cook is putting it mildly. It is vital she stays on to help her grandmother and stop her turning into a chicken. Worse still, the feast has to consist of all the witches’ favourite foods. She enlists the help of her brother, Tom, to discover what these are. He isn’t happy snooping and feels he has other skills that would be of more use, but Tallulah won’t listen to him. With only 3 days to complete the task there are some anxious moments and plenty of chuckles in this magical story with some really great animal characters. Night of the Living Ted Barry Hutchison (Stripes, £5.99) Build a Bear might not be everyone’s idea of a birthday present for dad, but Vernon is attracted by the ‘free’ sign. This is only for Hallowe’en bears and, as her father is an Elvis fan, his step sister, Lisa Marie, makes an Elvis look alike bear (Bearvis) as well. They should have remembered the saying ‘you don’t get anything for nothing’ when their bears come alive and Lisa Marie’s witch bear magically turns her parents into a frog and slug. As the pair try to reverse whatever has caused this, aided by Bearvis, they are attacked by an army of evil vampire, zombie and alien bears. Is this the end for all humans? This is an exciting story full of magic and horrific attacks cleverly mixed with plenty of humour to make the horror BEARable! Very old readers can look out for lots of Elvis references.
