Welcome to the first half-term edition of the school year! We hope 

that now that the children have had some time to settle in, they’re 

enjoying the new experiences and positive challenges that this 

academic year has brought. Now that the weather is cooling down, 

we can start looking forward to some family halloween activities, 

firework displays, wrapping up in cosy jumpers, and lovely warm 

mugs of hot chocolate. 

There are so many events and activities on offer over the next few 

weeks; we hope that everyone will be able to find something that 

they’ll enjoy. We’ve got everything from marvellous museum activities 

to swimming classes! The National Trust properties are particularly 

beautiful at this time of year for a family walk. Pantomime season is 

also approaching, so make sure you check out our Box Office listings 

and book early to ensure you see the show of your choice

members of the 1961 Women in Space 

Programme. But, one week before the 

final phase of training, the programme 

was cancelled. Undeterred, Wally went on 

to become America’s first female aviation
