Goa to feel impact of 2 cyclones, people advised to stay away from sea
Goa Tourism issued a statement and in
that it advised the tourists to stay away
for sea till Sunday. Goa will feel the
impact of two cyclones.
It will face the impact of cyclone
Luban and cyclone Titli as well since
a deep depression over Bay of Bengal
Titli as well as lunar influences, the
tourism department on Thursday advised
tourists not to venture into the sea.
In a statement issued, the tourism
authorities have also asked operators
of beach shacks to take adequate
precautions to ensure safety of tourists
due to a rise in sea water levels.
"In view of the situation prevailing
at the coastline, tourists are advised
not to venture into the sea water till
October 14. Tourists are advised to take
maximum utmost care and precaution
while at beaches and also pay heed to the
instructions of lifeguards deputed on the
beaches." - Tourism department statement.
India Will Be Driving Engine Of
World Growth, Says PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi says India's economy has stabilised over the last few years, fiscal
deficit has come down, inflation is under control and the middle class is rising.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today
said India is going through major social
and economic changes and the resultant
"new India" will prove to be a catalyst
for global development. "Every major
institution in the world is predicting
that in the coming decades, India is
Indian airport
police told to cut
down on smiling
This is over concerns cheerfulness
could lead to a perception of lax
security and a threat of terror attacks.
The country's Central Industrial
Security Force, which is in charge of
aviation safety, wants its staff to be
"more vigilant than friendly".
They will move from a "broad smile
system" to a "sufficient smile system",
the Indian Express says.
Officials are said to believe that
excessive friendliness puts airports at
risk of terrorist attacks.
The organisation's director general,
Rajesh Ranjan even said the 9/11
attacks had taken place because of
"an excessive reliance on passengerfriendly
features".
This is not the first time Indian police
officers have been told to improve their
standards or alter their behaviour:
- In July, the Karnataka State Reserve
Police told its officers to lose weight or
face suspension from service
- And in 2004, police in Madhya
Pradesh state were paid to grow
moustaches because bosses believed it
made them command more respect
By contrast, elsewhere in Asia,
Nepalese police hired 600 trainers
in 2014 to help officers become more
friendly.
going to be the driving engine of world
growth," PM Modi said at an investors
summit in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
He said India's economy has stabilised
over the last few years, fiscal deficit has
come down, inflation is under control
and the middle class is rising.
"The scale and speed at which reforms
are happening are unprecedented. In
the last two years, the central and state
governments have ushered in more than
10,000 reforms. Thanks to this, India has
made a significant jump of 42 points in
the global 'ease of doing business' index,"
the Prime Minister said.
"As part of these reforms, more than
1,400 laws have been repealed. Major tax
reforms have been brought in," he added.
PM Modi said the Goods and Services
Tax (GST) has been the "biggest tax
reform since independence" that has
made the entire country into a single
market and widened the tax base.
He said infrastructure development
is taking place at a "record speed" with
more than 10,000 kilometres of national
highways built in the last one year.
"It means over 27 km road built per
day. This rate is double as compared
to road development during previous
governments," PM Modi said.
Train 18, Indian Railways first engine-less train, to
take passengers to India’s 1st world-class station!
Indian Railways first world-class semi-high speed train set will take passengers to India's first
world-class railway station at Habibganj! While Train 18 is expected to roll out this month, the
redevelopment work at Habibganj railway station is expected to be over by December end this year.
From January 2019, Indian Railways’
first engine-less train – Train 18 – will
most likely replace India’s fastest
Shatabdi Express on the Delhi-Bhopal
route. What makes this development
more special is the fact that the
final destination of the Delhi-Bhopal
Shatabdi Express is Habibganj – the
first Indian Railways station that
is being developed as a world-class
transit hub. To put it simply, Indian
Railways first world-class semi-high
speed train set will take passengers
to India’s first world-class railway
station at Habibganj! While Train 18
is expected to roll out this month, the
Dubai unveils Flying
Rescuer to keep public
beaches safe
redevelopment work at Habibganj
railway station is expected to be over
by December end this year.
Being manufactured at Integral
Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, Train
18 will undergo extensive testing
by RDSO over the next few months
before being declared ready for the
Delhi-Bhopal route. Train 18 is a selfpropelled
all AC chair car train set
that will be able to travel at speeds of
160 kmph. The train set is eventually
expected to replace Shatabdi Express
trains on key Indian Railways routes.
Train 18 will have several passenger
friendly features such as Europeanstyle
seats, personalised reading
lights, mobile charging points next
to every seat, diffused LED lighting,
continuous windows for better viewing
experience, fully sealed gangways for
easy movement, modular bio-vacuum
toilets, automatic doors with sliding
footsteps and a swanky mini pantry
with upgraded equipment. ICF claims
that Train 18 has been designed and
manufactured in a record time of 18-20
months at almost half the cost of a
similar train being imported.
Social network
Google+ shut down
after 500,000 users’
data exposed
Google will shut down the consumer
version of its social network Google+
after announcing data from up to 500,000
users may have been exposed to external
developers by a bug that was present for
more than two years in its systems.
The company said in a blog on
Monday it had discovered and patched
the leak in March of this year and had
no evidence of misuse of user data or
that any developer was aware or had
exploited the vulnerability.
Google said it had reviewed the issue,
looking at the type of data involved,
whether it could accurately identify the
users to inform, whether there was any
evidence of misuse, and whether there
were any actions a developer or user
could take.
“None of these thresholds were met
in this instance,” it said. “We found no
evidence that any developer was aware
of this bug, or abusing the API, and we
found no evidence that any Profile data
was misused.”
Dubai Municipality has developed an
unmanned aerial vehicle called the
Flying Rescuer, to help maintain safety
and security on public beaches in the
emirate.
The authority said in a statement that
the drone is the first of its kind in the
world in terms of design and use.
The Flying Rescuer consists of a
double fan mounted on four folding
arms known as Octa-X8 capable of
carrying a load of 8kg.
It can be remote controlled manually
or by determining a specific path for
the device and launching it on auto
mode to automatically follow its path.
It is also possible to remotely control
the launch of rescue buoys or rafts
reaching the drowning site.
The drone is also equipped with two
cameras, one for high precision navigation
for live video transmission up to 1km from
the control point and the other to facilitate
the launch of rescue pipes and buoys to
the drowning area precisely.
The UAV has a battery life of up to 30
minutes, allowing multiple flights without
having to recharge the battery and it
also has the ability to operate at high
temperatures in Dubai in the summer.
Khalid Sharif Al Awadhi, CEO of
Environment, Health and Safety
Sector, said: "The Municipality pays
great attention to the development of
coastal safety systems according to the
latest and most advanced methods.”
Alia Al Harmoudi, director of
Environment Department, added: "The
drone can transport up to four rings
of lifebuoys to the drowning incident
area which can support up to eight
drowning people at the same time. It
can also be used with a rescue raft that
automatically inflates when it touches
the water instead of buoys to save
several people at the same time."

The Japanese passport is now the
strongest in the world, overtaking
Singapore, according to a latest research.
According to the 2018 Henley Passport
Index released today, Japanese citizens
can travel without a visa or gain a visa
on arrival in 190 destinations – the
most globally. The Japanese passport
overtook the Singapore passport, which
allows travel to 189 destinations without
a prior visa, after gaining visa-free
access to Myanmar earlier this year.
Third place is shared with Germany,
South Korea and France with its
citizens able to enter 188 countries
without a prior visa. France and South
Korea jumped to third place after
gaining visa-free access to Uzbekistan
and Myanmar respectively.
The UK and the US, both with 186
destinations open to their citizens, slid
from fourth to fifth place in this year's
Kerala reopens its
doors to tourists
PUNE: The Kerala state tourism
department on Tuesday said that the
state is was back to normalcy after the
devastating flood and was ready to open its
doors with several new tourism initiatives.
“The tourism industry was greatly
affected because of the damage but we
bounced back in a record time of three
weeks. None of the key tourist areas
were affected by the floods and most of
the access roads that were damaged have
been restored,” the assistant tourist
information officer of the Kerala state
tourism department Sajeev K R said while
addressing media persons here on Tuesday.’
“The recent red alert that was issued
has also been withdrawn and the state has
been declared safe for tourists,” he added.
With the festival of Navaratra around
media /opinion makers for the
promotion of two-way tourism,
exchange experiences in the areas of
promotion, marketing, destination
development and management,
countries as attractive tourism
destinations, and to promote safe,
honourable and sustainable tourism.
India and Romania have enjoyed a
strong diplomatic and long economic
relationship. The MoU was signed in
September this year, during the visit
of Vice President Venkaiah Naidu
to Romania in presence of Ministry
Excise duty on jet fuel cut from 14%
to 11% in relief for airlines
New Delhi: The government on
Wednesday cut excise duty on jet fuel
from 14% to 11% to help keep airfares
under check and to give relief to
airlines troubled by high fuel prices.
A notification from the finance
ministry’s revenue department said
the revised duty will be effective from
Thursday.
The move comes at a time when high
jet fuel prices and a weaker rupee have
kept airline finances under pressure,
with companies having limited
headroom in raising fares without
losing market share as the domestic
aviation market is very price sensitive.
Excise duty on jet fuel was increased in
March 2014 from 8% to 14%.
In the case of routes covered under
the government’s regional connectivity
scheme, jet fuel is already taxed at a
lower rate of 2% from 1 July 2017.
Domestic airlines, which are rapidly
expanding their capacity with large
scale induction of aircraft planned over
the coming months, need to keep fares
low to stimulate demand, especially in
new routes. This has curtailed their
ability to pass on increased costs to
consumers.
the corner, the tourism department is
trying to dispel the image that Kerala
is still reeling under floods. “After the
slowdown in tourist arrivals, we had to
formulate an action plan to get back on
track. One of the first steps we took was
to launch a live video on social media
to show that everything is fine. Our
strategy for the tourism campaign is
— it’s time for Kerala. We are opening
our doors to more international and
domestic players,” Sajeev said.
The endeavours that are a part of the
tourism initiatives include the Neelakurunji
National Park in Munnar, the Jatayu Earth
Center in Kollam district and the threemonth-long
international contemporary
festival — Muziris Biennale — in Fort
Kochi, scheduled to start from December 12.
NITI Aayog
proposes green cess
for the Himalayan
region
Every year an average of about 100
million tourists visit the ecologically
sensitive Indian Himalayan region
(IHR), which is home to about 50
million people. In seven years, the
number of tourists is expected to
touch the 240 million mark putting
huge pressure on the state’s natural
resources. With an aim of generating
funds to address the issues in the
region, the Indian government’s think
tank, NITI Aayog, in a latest report has
now recommended introduction of a
“green cess” in the form of payments
from service consumers.
The report, ‘Sustainable Tourism in
the Indian Himalayan Region’ states
that “payments for environmental
services (PES) such as charging
entrance fees might also offer a
valuable long-term solution within the
tourism industry, as tourism relies
heavily on the existence of sound
natural environments”.
India Navy's Goa
Symposium to be
held on Oct 16
New Delhi, Oct 10 (PTI) The Indian Navy
will host the 'Goa Maritime Symposium',
aimed at establishing academic
excellence and sharing of ideas with
the country's maritime neighbours, on
October 16, the Navy said Wednesday.
The event is a follow-on to the maiden
Goa Maritime Conclave held in 2017.
It is likely to be attended by senior
naval officers and representatives from
16 Indian Ocean littoral countries, which
include Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore,
and Thailand from South East Asia;
Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka
from India's immediate neighbourhood.
It also includes the island nations of
Seychelles, Mauritius and Maldives;
Oman in West Asia; and South Africa,
Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania and
Mozambique from Africa.
The Navy said with the Indian Ocean
becoming the locus of the 21st century
strategic landscape, the symposium
will play a constructive role in bringing
together stakeholders that have a role
in evolving strategies, policies and
implementation mechanisms in the
maritime domain.
The theme for the one-day symposium
is 'Building Stronger Maritime
Partnerships in IOR'.
The focus of the symposium is on
capacity building among IOR navies to
tackle emerging maritime threats, as
well as discussing cooperative strategies
for enhancing interoperability among
partner maritime agencies, it said.
The event will witness eminent
speakers articulating their views on
these important issues, which will be
followed by theme based discussions.
India on alert as
zika virus hits
tourism hotspot
of Jaipur
NEW DELHI: India
has sent experts to
try to contain an
outbreak of the zika
virus in the popular
tourist destination
of Jaipur, capital
of Rajasthan, with
a close watch on
pregnant women.
Twenty-two people in the city have
tested positive, the health ministry
said. There is no vaccine to the virus
which can cause severe birth defects in
unborn children.
The Toronto-based International
Association for Medical Assistance
to Travellers said it was advising
pregnant travellers to postpone trips to
the area, part of India's tourist "golden
triangle" of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra,
home to the Taj Mahal.
First discovered in 1947, the zika virus
reached epidemic proportions in Brazil
in 2015, when thousands of babies were
born with microcephaly, a brain defect
affecting speech and motor function.

spring/summer 2019 shows this season.
With the mercury set at a broiling
33 degrees, the audience would have
gladly swapped the clothes on their
backs with those on the runway.
Rimzim Dadu, for one, is the kind
of designer whose brand of creativity
stems from her love for detail and the
perfection of her craft. This season,
Dadu highlighted her signature cord
work while drawing inspiration from
techniques of lace-making and stencils.
One coral jacket, made of just the
outlines of floral motifs crafted in the
shape of a jacket, took nearly 400 hours
to come to life.
Pranav Mishra and Shyma Shetty
of label Huemn are back from their
Vogue Talents showcase in Milan, and
have been working with photographers
Mark Hanauer and Azaan Shah for
their latest lineup. The designers
emphasised on recreating Shah’s
landscapes of Kashmir in hand
embroidery from images shot by these
photographers. Huemn always been
known for capturing the energy of
the youth, and took a more mature
approach with their athleisure and
street fashion-influenced line of
clothing this season.
Aneeth Arora’s brand Péro is all
about storytelling. This season, she
retold a modern classic of finding a fish
lost in the sea, however in her version,
the aquatic being was named Péro
instead of Nemo. The audience sat by
the poolside sipping on fresh coconut
drinks as a band played Caribbean
folk music, and some sand lined the
snaking ramp on which models danced
rather than walked. Péro’s easy yet
meticulously detailed separates came
in sunny yellows, seaweed greens and
soft teal blues this time around—the
idea was to find the little fish lost in the
mix of gingham, stripes and florals.
But Arora’s presentations are rarely
Glam up the garba!
The nip in the air is already setting in, and October is the
official month to kick-start festivities in India.
Festivals like Dussehra, Durga Puja,
and Navatri are the time to flaunt your
traditional wear while you get busy
with pandal hopping and garba nights.
“As garba nights is quite popular
among youngsters and especially
with Gujarati community, so my first
suggestion is to wrap your saree like a
gujju (with a front pallu), and to give it
a twist you can pair your crop peplum
top” suggests designer Pankhuri Jain,
as she adds, “To look trendy, instead
of draping the saree around your waist
before pleating you can straight away
do the pleating and tuck in with a pair
of contrast jeggings. To don an elegant
look, you can even pick a ruffled saree
which can make it easy for you to play
dandiya and dance all night.”
Designer Suruchi Khanna also thinks
that a saree is surely one of the best
attire to embrace this season. She says,
“You can ditch the conventional way
to drape a saree and experiment a little
with the looks. Pair it with capes, belts
or a dupatta to create new styles. Add
a stylish belt that cinches your pallu at
the waist, or use a kamarbhandh if you
want a more traditional look. The other
modern approach is to drape a
long pallu around the neck like
a scarf and with a high hair
bun, you can recreate the retro
look from the 70s. Layering a
saree is also quite in wear it
over brocade pants or denim to
create a semi-Indian look.”
This festive season while
you hop from one pandal to
another with your pals, opt for
cool jewellery and accessories
to complete the look. Designer Megah
Malik of Resa, says, “Try and keep it
simple, accessories should be minimal
if you are opting for a heavy outfit.
Wear statement chandbalis with an
embellished saree or anarkali suit. If
you are going for plain or a solid colour
(or a pastel hue) you can pick some
heavy junk jewellery like a long chain
oxidised piece with similar jhumkas
and matching ring.”
While anarkali suits and kurta
pyjamas are most common, to play
around with a saree is the most
interesting way to create new looks
every day of the 10-day-long festival.
Celebrity Stylist Nidhi Sharma gives
done with finding just one hidden
detail. The designer launched ‘Found
Péro’ this season, which is a sub brand
from the house that curates local
Indian crafts. The wicker baskets for
the press kits were created by local
craftsmen in Manipur, while the
crisps inside came from an organic
food brand called C. Green. Models
wore Havaianas and Birkenstocks
customised by Péro, and the paper
headgear of corals and fishes were
handcrafted by Italian paper sculptor,
Carlos Urgese.
The talk outside of the shows is,
however, not limited to the picturesque
life by the sea. The depleting quality
of air in Delhi is also furious with the
angry smoke of India’s recent #MeToo
movement. Will more names come
up this week? Will the fashion week
cultivate more than discussions on the
evolution of aesthetics? Answers will
be found, but only with time.
Models wearing Sanaa Couture by Suruchi Khanna
some more tips and adds, “Opt for a
neck drape saree and wear it with a
traditional Bengali twist when you fix
the pallu. Jacket over a saree is one of
the hottest trends right now and you
can go for a brocade or silk full sleeve
collar jacket instead of a blouse, and
pair it with long earrings. A simple
cotton saree with ruffled sleeve blouse
can look very sophisticated and chic.
Apart from that, one can also wear
sharara pants or frilled pants with gota
work. Peplum tops and dhoti pants
is another fabulous option for festive
season and pair it with juttis and smart
earrings to get it on point.”
Bose Launches Home Speaker 500,
Soundbar 500, 700 in India
US-based audio equipment maker Bose
on Thursday added new devices to its
wireless smart speaker and soundbar
categories for the Indian market. The
newly launched "Home Speaker 500"
and "Soundbar 500" and "Soundbar 700"
are priced at Rs 39,000, Rs 59,000 and
Rs 79,000, respectively. "It takes just
one 'Home Speaker 500' to deliver true
stereo separation. Our 'Soundbar 700
and 500' are thin and discreet with jawdropping
surround sound.
"Combined with Alexa, they combine
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for unbeatable
ease of use, can be mixed and matched
Doug Cunningham, Category Manager,
Consumer Electronics Division, Bose.
With buttons for basic functionality,
Focusing on the home theatre set-up,
both the soundbars could be wallmounted
or expanded with a wireless
bass module and rear speakers. The
multiple channels of a soundtrack or
song throughout a space, placing discrete
To manage the TV or other connected
Lady Gaga:
'There's a price
to stardom'
Lady Gaga has claimed there is ''a price to
stardom'' and admitted "it tests families"
and "your dynamic with your friends".
The 32-year-old singer and actor, who
stars as an unknown singer-songwriter
in the Bradley Cooper-directed A
Star Is Born, has claimed that fame
and success can hurt and undermine
personal relationships.
Speaking to Elle magazine, Gaga who
was previously engaged to actor Taylor
Kinney, said: ''It tests families. It tests
your dynamic with your friends. There
is a price to stardom.''
The Poker Face singer said her
heartbreak has also acted as a source
of inspiration and revealed how
she relied on a lot of her personal
experiences for her performance as a
struggling artist in her recent movie.
''I can't make music or act without
using and accessing the pain that I have
in my heart. I mean, what better place
to put it? Otherwise, it's of no good use.''
"For me, in music and in acting, I'm
always pulling from my past experiences,
family dynamics, relationships, pain,
happiness, joy, the roller coaster ride
of my life - how that has kind of created
this beautiful disco ball that's somehow
refracted and fractured.''

India Film Project
drops Raghu Dixit’s
session amid
sexual harassment
allegations
The upcoming eighth edition of India
Film Project, an annual content
creation initiative, has dropped Raghu
Dixit from its line-up in the wake
of sexual harassment allegations
against the independent musician,
indianexpress.com has confirmed.
The two day-long festival, which opens
on October 13, was supposed to have Dixit
in conversation with Nirmika Singh, the
executive editor of Rolling Stones India,
under the topic, “Celebrating Indie Music:
The need for the next decade”.
Earlier in the day, singer Chinmayi
Sripaada shared an account of a female
singer who alleged Raghu Dixit once
tried to kiss her in his studio when she
came for a song recording.
The second incident was also shared
by Sripaada and it read that Dixit asked
the survivor to sit on his lap while the
two were working in his studio.
While Dixit issued a public apology
regarding the first survivor, the
frontman of the multilingual folk-fusion
band The Raghu Dixit Project, denied
the allegation levelled against him.
After the India Film Project cancelled
his session, indianexpress.com sent a
message to the musician, requesting a
comment. His manager Gaurav responded
to the text message, saying, “We do not
want to make a comment about this
right now. And honestly, I would really
appreciate if this does not become a big
issue. Hope you understand.”
#MeToo continues to haunt AIB;
Tanmay Bhat to 'step away', Khamba
sent on leave
After Bollywood and other fields of
media, the #MeToo campaign has hit
comedy group AIB. Tanmay Bhat, one
of its chief comedians, will "step away"
from association with the group, a
release put out by it said.
The note from the AIB's official Twitter
handle, was attributed to its HR Resources
Mouni Roy is
the most stylish
woman on the
internet
After making her debut in Kyunki
Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Mouni Roy
went on to become one of the most
successful small screen celebs. But
post her stint with Naagin, not only did
Mouni become a household name but
also became one of the most bankable
stars. Whether it's acting skills or her
stylish sartorial choices, Mouni Roy is
undoubtedly one of the coolest TV stars.
While we can't get our eyes off her,
Mouni's caption is just as beautiful for
her. She wrote, "I stood willingly and
gladly in the characters of everything
- other people, trees, clouds. And this
is what I learned, that the world's
otherness is antidote to confusion - that
standing within this otherness - the
beauty and the mystery of the world,
out in the fields or deep inside books -
can re-dignify the worst-stung heart".
She will be seen in Made In China
opposite Rajkummar Rao soon.
Head, Vidhi Jotwani. The note read that
the company was "closely monitoring the
sequence of events on social around the
allegations against AIB and also against
our co-founder and CEO Tanmay Bhat."
Jotwani's note read that Tanmay's role
couldn't be overlooked and in light of
this, he will be stepping away from AIB
until further notice. He would not be a
part of the daily operations of the band
any more, till further communication
was sent out.
AIB announced the news via a
statement on Twitter. The note also said
that the organisation had decided to place
one of the other co-founders, Gursimran
Khamba, on a "temporary leave of
absence." Action against Khamba comes
in the wake of allegations on social media
by a woman who claimed that he had
misbehaved with her. Khamba has also
been accused of making drunk calls, and
emotionally blackmailing and abusing
her for not reciprocating his advances.
Veteran actor Asrani
rubbishes Me Too
movement: It is 90 per
cent lies
Veteran actor Asrani rubbished the
#MeToo movement and told ANI, "I
support women, everyone should, but all
this is mostly for publicity, part of film
promotions and nothing else. All this is
rubbish, and 90 per cent lies, just to sell
it to magazines and for popularity."
He termed the accusations against
various actors as "filmy things".
"Accusations and blames are all filmy
things. Mere accusations mean nothing,
don't take this seriously. If you publish
Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography,
no one will read it but if it's Madhuri
people will come and read it."
New, stronger legislation to replace
Tourist Trade Act in Goa
Panaji: The government is set to
introduce a new legislation for the
tourism industry, one with more teeth,
which will enable it to deal with various
illegalities in the sector, especially
unorganised growth of the industry,
managing director Goa Tourism
Development Corporation (GTDC)
Nikhil Desai said on Tuesday. Desai,
who was speaking at a panel discussion
on “Goa’s tourism — a realistic picture”
organised by SKAL International Goa,
an international association of travel
and tourism professionals, said the
Tourist Trade Act will be replaced with
a new legislation.
He made the statement after copanellists
— BJP Calangute MLA
and deputy speaker Michael Lobo,
fashion designer Wendell Rodricks,
businessmen Anand Madgavkar
and Lyndon Alves — highlighted the
LA LA LAND WORKSHOPS IN GOA
unorganised growth of
the industry.
Desai also spoke about the difficulties
the tourism department was facing
with regards to keeping a check
on those running tourism-related
trades, like letting of rooms, without
registering with the department.
This segment, which takes advantage
of technology to run its activities,
is placing additional stress on the
tourism infrastructure, Desai said.
Desai dismissed his co-panellists
view that the drugs, prostitution
and alcohol image linked to Goa was
damaging its reputation as a tourist
destination.
He, however, accepted that public
transport in the state is inadequate,
which forces tourists to depend on
taxis. By December, taxis will be fitted
with digital meters, Desai said, adding
that these will be equipped with GPS
systems and will have features that
will enable the department to keep
a check on operators to ensure they
issue printed receipts. The permit will
state that if taxi operators fail to issue
printed receipt to their clients, it will
be considered a free ride, he said.
Earlier, Rodricks warned about the
garbage problem and urged the hotel
industry to be innovative in dealing
will plastic waste.
and have a fun ride. Register for a
skateboarding workshop by Skate
Navratri 2018
Know the significance of all nine
days of the festival
The nine-day festival of Navratri which begins today on October
10, 2018, is dedicated to the goddess Durga and all her nine avatars.
Navratri or the nine
sacred days mark
the most auspicious
days in the Hindu
calendar and are
celebrated across the
country with much
fervour and festivity.
Also known as Maha
Navratri, this festival
falls in the lunar
month of Ashwin
during Sharad Ritu.
Although, the festival
typically falls four
times in a year, the
Sharada Navaratri
during autumn
(September-October) is the most celebrated, and the Vasanta Navaratri during
spring (March-April) is the next most significant Navratri.
The nine-day festival which begins today on October 10, 2018, is dedicated to
goddess Durga and all her nine avatars.
The festival is celebrated to commemorate Maa Durga's win over the demon
Mahishasura and represents the victory of peace and dharma over ego and evil.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE 9 DAYS:
Day 1 of the Navratri celebrates
goddess Shailputri. This avatar of
goddess Durga is the embodiment of
the collective power of Brahma, Vishnu
and Mahesh. The goddess in this avatar
is worshipped as the consort of Shiva.
Day 2 of the festival celebrates goddess
Brahmcharini, the second avatar of
Maa Durga. She is blissful and endows
happiness, peace, prosperity and grace.
Filled with bliss and happiness, she is
the way to emancipation or moksha.
Day 3 of the nine-day festival
of Navratri celebrates goddess
Chandraghanta. She represents beauty
and grace and is worshipped on the third
day for peace, tranquility and prosperity
in life. She is the symbol of bravery.
Day 4 of the festival celebrates goddess
Kushmunda. This avatar of the
goddess is considered the creator of the
universe. It is believed that she created
the universe through laughter.
Day 5 of Navratri 2018 celebrates
goddess Skand Mata. She is the mother
of Skanda, or Karthikeya, who was
chosen by the gods as their commanderin-chief
in the war against the demons.
The goddess represents the vulnerability
of a mother who can fight anyone when
the need arises to protect her child.
Day 6 of the Navratri celebrates
goddess Katyayani. The goddess was
born to the great sage, Kata, as an
avatar of Durga. Dressed in orange, she
exhibits immense courage.
Day 7 of the festival celebrates goddess
Kalratri. This avatar of the goddess
has dark complexion, disheveled hair
and a fearless posture. She is the most
fierce form of goddess Durga, and
she is dressed in white, a colour that
represents peace and prayer.
Day 8 of the festival celebrates goddess
Maha Gauri. The eighth avatar of Maa
Durga represents intelligence, peace,
prosperity and calm.
Day 9 of the festival of Navratri
celebrates goddess Siddhidatri.
The goddess is known for having
supernatural healing powers. The
goddess is represents blissful state of
mind, just like the sky on a clear day.
People celebrate these nine days
by keeping fasts and dressing up in
different colours of the auspicious
days.
Try
Running
Without
Music
There are two main upsides to running: It’s a great and
efficient form of exercise, and it’s also a way to get lost in
nature and thought for 45 minutes to an hour (or however
long your run is) with few to no distractions.
Sure, a pre-made playlist can pump
you up for your run or help you keep
pace. But if you want to truly free
your mind, suggests Martin Fritz
Huber in Outside Online, try running
without music.
Huber’s argument is that running
outside is one of the few times people,
particularly city dwellers, can
immerse themselves in the natural
world, without screens, text messages
or notifications clouding your vision.
He calls it a “microadventure” for
your brain: while you might be able to
run your 3-mile loop blindfolded, you
never know where your mind might
wander.
It’s also a way to reclaim your run
as a time strictly for yourself and
your mental and physical well-being.
Rather than listening to podcasts to try
to learn something during your run,
or putting on music to speed it along,
you’re immersing yourself in the run
for the run’s sake. Taking in the sights
along your route more fully, listening
to what’s going on around you, letting
your brain take a break for a little while.
“I don’t think we always need to be
When you preselect a soundtrack for your run, you are
trying to tacitly control your experience. And in many cases,
that is precisely the point: pump-me-up music to get you
through those painful final miles, for instance. But, as that
example illustrates, so much of our music comes loaded with
preconceived mental associations; we already know how a
certain song is going to make us feel. One of the great things
about running is that it can provide a chance to get away
from all that, if only for an hour or so.
ticking off the boxes of some invisible
checklist of life improvement—
especially when engaged in an
activity that is fruitful in and of
itself,” he writes. I’ll run to that.
Bus driver suspended in Karnataka
for letting MONKEY drive
A bus driver has been suspended in
Karnataka after video footage emerged
of him letting a monkey drive his bus.
Images show the Langur monkey
sitting on and appearing to operate
the wheel of the vehicle as it sped
along a highway in southern
Karnataka state.
Witnesses said the primate had
boarded the bus with a passenger
before insisting on joining the driver.
In footage of the incident the
driver, named as M Prakash, seems
unconcerned, allowing his furry
companion to grab the steering wheel.
As the monkey starts lending his
driving skills, passengers can be heard
encouraging the situation rather than
complaining about it.
The creature is said to have sat on
the wheel for a few minutes before
reaching its destination and hopping
off with its owner.
Karnataka State Road Transport
Service said it had “removed” the
driver after the incident, which
is believed to have happened last
Monday.
The bus company said in a statement:
“We have removed the driver from
duty and have asked the divisional
security inspector to conduct an
inquiry.
“He won’t be assigned any further
duty till the probe is completed; he
could even be suspended.”

promoters, fundraising and serving as
an ambassador for the system.
The Miss Gay America pageant
— the oldest and largest for female
impersonators — has been held in St.
Maruti Suzuki flags off 50 proto-type
electric vehicles for field test
New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India (MSI)
Tuesday said it has flagged off 50 prototype
electric vehicles for a field test
in line with its plans to introduce an
EV by 2020. The vehicles were flagged
off from the company's Gurugram
facility by MSI Senior Executive
Director (Engineering) CV Raman.
Last month at the MOVE Summit,
Suzuki Chairman Osamu Suzuki had
announced the nation-wide field testing
of 50 prototype EVs. "The EVs have
been developed exclusively by Suzuki
Motor Corporation, Japan and built
at Maruti Suzuki, Gurugram facility,
as our commitment to Make in India,"
MSI said in a statement.
This extensive real-life usage of the
vehicles in multiple terrains and climatic
conditions will help the company to
get valuable insights that will help in
validation and successful launch of EV
technology in India, it added. The flagged
off proto-type EVs have been developed
on an existing model of Suzuki Motor
Corporation, Japan, it said.
