News from ACT
Once again the New Year has started at
lightning speed and it is shaping up to be
a big year for the ACT Committee. We have
recently farewelled Jane Young and Christine
Ng from the Executive Committee and thank
them for their support. While we are sad to
see them leave, it presents an opportunity
for members wanting to increase their
involvement in ACC Australia’s activities. We
are always on the lookout for enthusiastic
members to join the ACT Committee and help
us to make a difference for in-house lawyers
in Canberra, so please get in touch via email:

We are also excited to be hosting the 2016
National Conference and look forward to
showing ACC Australia members around our
beautiful city. The conference will be located
at the Hotel Realm, with the In-house Lawyer
Awards to be held at the National Arboretum
(with its award-winning architecture and
sweeping views of Canberra). For those that
haven’t been to Canberra in a while (or even
since their primary school camp), I’m confident
that you’ll find that the city has undergone
dramatic change in recent years. Like all good
metropolitan cities, we too are seeing an
influx of hipsters who have come to enjoy
the amazing food options (think food trucks,
freakshakes and smoked meats), outdoors
lifestyle and world-class museums!
Of course, the National Conference is in
addition to our regular schedule of CPD
activities which will run throughout the
year. Look out in the ACC Australia weekly
newsletter for further details and dates –
particularly as the end of the CPD
year approaches.

First let me start by welcoming everyone
to 2016. The Queensland Division of ACC
Australia is looking forward to another big
year – and we are hoping you will help.
We have recently sent out an Expression of
Interest for nominees to join the Queensland
Divisional Committee. If you haven’t yet
responded and are interested in helping us
shape the future of in-house legal practice in
Queensland and nationally, please email us at

2015 ended with a well-attended end of
year lunch at A Alimentari, Italian Bar and
Trattoria. As always, this event would not have
been possible without our sponsor, Clyde &
Co. Thank you to the partners for their time
in attending and their support. We had a
fantastic time celebrating our successes in
2015 and looked forward to a year in 2016
full of innovation, education and strong
networking opportunities. Congratulations to
Dominic Goosem on winning our trivia – we
hope you’ve been able to make use of the
$150 Webjet voucher!
We have an exciting CLE program unfolding
for the year ahead – with sessions already
held this year by our longstanding corporate
alliance partner, Holding Redlich, on
negotiation and dispute resolution, and
managing risk in commercial contracts.
We are all looking forward to another exciting
QLD Corporate Counsel Day on 5 May 2016.
This year’s venue is the Hilton Hotel, where we
will be focusing on “The future of in-house in
the global village”. Our Keynote speaker, Morris
Miselowski will be speaking on “Futurevation:
The Tomorrow and Beyond of Business”. Make
sure you register for this unique event – the
only local conference, by in-house counsel, for
in-house counsel. Come and mingle with your
peers and plan for the future of a globalised

2015 ended in spectacular style with a hugely
successful Christmas Cocktail Function held
at Bar100 in the Rocks. The sell-out event
featured complimentary corporate head shots
taken by a professional photographer and of
course some quality refreshments provided by
our sponsors, Clyde & Co.
The CPD calendar is in good shape this year
with a number of events having taken place
already in the first quarter, including most
notably the ACC Australia NSW Corporate
Counsel Day held on 10 March at the
Swissotel, Sydney. With the theme “Essential
Ingredients for In-House Success”, the event
featured speakers including CEO of Emergent
Solutions, Holly Ransom and Group General
Counsel, Telstra and 2015 Corporate Counsel
of the Year, Carmel Mulhern.
Thank you to all those who attended and
contributed to yet another successful CCD.
I encourage members of the NSW division to
regularly check the ACC Australia website as
plenty of CPD seminars have been scheduled
for the year ahead. Get in quick to register
for sessions to be held in the next quarter
including:
• An IP Masterclass on 17 March presented
by Watermark.
• Your subpoena checklist on 17 May
presented by Holding Redlich.
• Statutory Interpretation on 22 June
presented by Holding Redlich.
We also have some great social events in the
planning stages including the ever popular
Trivia Night to be held in May, and the End of
Financial year drinks to be held in June/July.
