Hi Everyone.
What a great results it was last Saturday and
its always nice to beat Faversham! It wasn't
only the team that defeated them though, a
special shout
out must be
made to the
amazing travelling
Brickies
supporters, it
was like a
home game
for most of
the time with
the tremendous
encouragement
being
given to
the team.
Away games
are coming
thick and fast
and for the
programme it
means trying
to squeeze in
more match
reports than
normal. This
edition features
4 reports
and I have had to abbreviate them some
what to fit them into the two pages that I allocate
to reports, so apologies to Tony Rickson
and Mick Sayce for butchering their reports!
Missing from the programme is the list of player
sponsors as this is still being compiled.
The big local football news is that Dover Athletic
have parted ways with Chris Kinnear who
has been at the helm since 2013 down at the
Crabble. However in all he has been at the
club for fifteen years as he had 10 years in
charge first time round from 1985 to 1995
when he guided the team from the Southern
league to the conference. He took charge
again in 2013 winning the Conference South
play off final at Ebbsfleet in May 2014. The
club have had a terrible start to the season in
the National league with just one win in 14
games.
Andy Hessenthaler has taken over at Dover.
It’s a good job that there are clubs like us who
give new managers a chance and don’t just
recycle the old ones! Nick Davies was an example
of this, as is of course our present manager
Aslan Odev. Other examples in recent
times include Gary Abbott, Richard Brady,
Matt Wyatt. Mark Beeney and Steve Lovell.
The other local news is that Paul Bowden
Brown had put Thamesmead Town up for sale
at £50,000, but with no takers all games have
now been postponed and it looks as though
the club will fold. Paul did help Sittingbourne
FC survive when he was part of the Maidstone
committee that agreed to ground share at
Bourne Park with us, so we owe Paul a huge
thanks. However it always looked an uphill
struggle for Thamesmead to survive at Princess
Park Dartford, with the expense of
playing there that must be incurred. Paul is not
in the best of health and he has cited that as
the reason he wanted to sell. Another local
club in trouble appears to be Ebbsfleet, watch
this space.
Finally just to let you know that the Football Association
has finally sanctioned our transfer to
a Limited Company and so we now operate as
a company limited by Guarantee. This effectively
means that we are a non profit making
company where all surplus goes back into the
club. The Directors do not draw a wage,
indeed we all help to finance the club, so rest
assured that any purchases / donations goes
straight to the club and not the Directors!! The
FA advised some time ago that all clubs should
transfer to Limited company status as a
safeguard for those who run the club.
