Future Knights in shining armor (and other costumes)
Halloween Knights
at LW Central draws
tiny, costumed trickor-treaters
T.J. Kremer III, Editor
have a balloon animal made
just for them.
While all of those activities
were certainly entertaining,
the children’s top choice
was nearly unanimous: Candy
is king.
When asked what their
favorite part of the day
was, the Brauch brothers,
of New Lenox, didn’t hesitate.
“Getting candy,” said
7-year-old Landon.
“Same as Landon,” Ethan,
also 7, said.
Little brother Brennan,
who’s 1, couldn’t answer; he
was too busy with his sucker.
More satisfied customers for
Central’s Halloween Knights.
It was a sea of waist-high
superheros, princess, ghouls,
ghosts and a myriad of other
assorted fantasy figures of all
kinds at Lincoln-Way Central’s
Halloween Knights on
Saturday, Oct. 27.
The indoor trick-or-treating
event regularly draws
hundreds of area children,
who are invited to make
their way through the labyrinth
of hallways in the high
school where students who
represent all of the school’s
clubs wait on-hand to pass
out candy to the eager
youngsters.
And while the children
may have been too focused
on all the candy and games,
the event actually helps
others in the community
through canned goods donations,
which participants
were encouraged to bring in
exchange for free entry.
“[All the food donations]
go to the New Lenox Food
Pantry next week,” said Sara
Gorniak, one of the student
council sponsors.
Cash proceeds from the
event will go toward funding
for various school club activities
and funding for next
year’s Halloween Knights,
Gorniak said.
Aside from the seemingly
endless flow of sugary
confections, the cafeteria
served as a game center
where children won prizes
for playing ring toss, bowling,
a Pachinko-style game
and more.
Across from the games,
children could get their faces
painted, get temporary tattoos,
watch a movie, color or
Patrick “Michael Jackson” Carter, 3, shows off his ring-toss skills at Lincoln-Way Central’s
Halloween Knights on Saturday, Oct. 27. Carter’s family made the trip all the way from Oak
Creek, Wisconsin, to spend time with family — and to grab some candy.
Let the dino win.
