Which Eyeglasses Are You Using?
A Paradigm is like the eyeglasses you use to see the world.
I believe there are only two eyeglasses available: Reality or
Destiny. Most people use the lens of Reality, and when bad things
happen, they get stuck in their sadness, or fear, or anger forever.
They get sucked by the negative stuff that surrounds them — the
vampire-like officemate, or the suffocating traffic, or the throbbing
hurt from a horrible ex, or the cellulite deposits compounding daily.
Some wiser people use the lens of Destiny. They believe that
what they see is only 1% of what exists. That 99% is unseen by the
naked eye. (Think Neo, a computer hacker who steals information
on the internet in the science-fiction film Matrix and realizes the true
nature of his reality.).
So for people using the Destiny lens, beyond the vampire or
traffic or hurts or cellulites, they believe that they’re God’s Beloved.
They’re Builders of an Everlasting Kingdom. They’re future
saints. And that God is doing something amazing in the spiritual
realm and it will be revealed to them.
Have a glorious Feast today.
May your dreams come true,
BO SANCHEZ
STAND NEXT TO THE SOURCE
When I find myself tired and drained, I have a go-to Bible verse that I
always reflect on and it never fails to refresh me every time.
It’s found in Jeremiah 17:7-8, which says, “Blessed is the one
who puts his trust in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will
be like a tree that's planted by the water that sends its roots by the
stream. They do not fear when heat comes. Its leaves are always
green. It has no worries in a year of drought and it never fails to
bear fruit.”
Try reading and reflecting on this when you need a life boost.
The verse says that there's a blessing when you trust God and
when you put your confidence in Him. What kind of blessing? The
ability to thrive and to never be deprived – because you will always
stand next to the Source of all things.
Although here’s something you need to know: being planted
close to the Source doesn’t guarantee that you will experience less
heat. It’s not an indication that you will never experience problems and trials again. In fact, you will still
experience the same heat like everyone else.
But what does it guarantee? When you hang around God, it guarantees that you'll be more hydrated.
You will always be refreshed.
Today, we’ll learn how thriving is a direct result of trusting.
You will be blessed today.
SPECIAL TALK
Jesus said, “He who believes in Me,
as the Scripture has said, out of his
heart will flow rivers of living water.”
Personal Reflection and
Group Discussion:
• Describe your prayer language.
Do you have time for quiet
listening? How do you feel before,
during and after your prayer time?
• At this point in your journey to and
with God, how’s your prayer life?
Do you often feel consolation or
desolation after praying? Why so?
• What difficulties do you
experience when you are about to
pray or even during prayer?
How do you deal with those
difficulties?
Bringing The Feast to the Youth
Medical doctor and real estate entrepreneur Ruth Ang shares to Timothy Quintos what made her reach out and continue her mission to
the young generation.
“Di ba masama maghangad ng pera? Puwede bang maging holy kahit you’re doing business? A business is all about making money, so how
can you make money and be holy at the same time?” These questions bugged my mind as an entrepreneur. Until I heard Bro. Bo Sanchez preach
about it when I first attended The Feast back at Camp Aguinaldo in 2007.
Turning Her Dorms into a Feast
As a Feaster, looking at the lonely college students living in
my dormitories, I soon felt this desire in my heart to share the love
I’m experiencing at our weekly prayer event. It’s not easy living in a
new environment and being away from one’s family at a young age.
Some are hanging out with the wrong crowd. Some are depressed
because of personal problems. Because they’re hurt, they seek to
numb the pain through vices and engaging in premarital sex.
I wanted to save the lives of these kids because I know they
have a great future ahead of them.
But instead of bringing them to the Feast, I decided to bring the
Feast to my own dormitories.
A Live Feast at the UST Campus
Dr. Ruth Ang, owner of Athena Dorms, holds Feast Light every third week of the month at
her dormitory near UST in Manila.
Money could be Holy
Being Chinese, I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs, who are
devoutly Catholics. For me, money and anything spiritual are two
opposite worlds. You don’t mix them.
Then I heard Bro. Bo say this the first time I joined The Feast
back at Camp Aguinaldo,”You can still be holy while managing your
business if you’re doing it out of love. It means you’re in it because you
want to serve your customers, you want to help people by providing
jobs for them, you want to help people get out of their financial
difficulties. There is a desire in your heart to help the poor and most of
all, you want to provide for your family. These are all acts of love. But
if you’re seeking money, for the sake of money alone, then it ceases
to be holy. You will only know if you’re being holy if you have become
more loving. In short, a business could be a vehicle for you to be holy
as long as you’re not doing it for the love of money but rather to love
others more.”
It was an eye-opener for me.
Aside from being an attendee with my family, I also joined
Bro. Bo’s Truly Rich Club, where I learned to invest wisely and grow
financially and spiritually at the same time.
I asked for help and Bro. JC Libiran, Director for Campus
Missions back then, guided us to launch UST Campus Feast with 80
students in February 2014.
I was blown away by the results. Non-practicing Catholic
students came back to the faith. Some of them even became
leaders of this live Feast. Dati nalilihis sila ng landas but now, they’re
on the right path.
Not about the Numbers
When Feast Light (formerly Feast Video) was introduced, I
joined and started one right away in my dormitory. Unfortunately,
the excitement of the students soon waned and the number of
attendees dwindled from 80, down to 20, then 5, and sometimes,
nobody came.
I got frustrated. I even stopped holding it at some time. I
even asked God why He allowed this to happen despite my good
intentions of building His Kingdom. All I want is to serve and help the
young dormers.
Keep the Fire Burning
Soon, I learned that I should not focus on the number of
attendees. What matters is that I bring Christ to those who are
desperately thirsty for Him, namely the youth.
All I have to do is plant the seeds of faith and love in their hearts
and God will do the rest.
I am humbled that He is using me to touch the lives of
young people.
“Allow the Spirit to work in you.”
- Bro. Audee Villaraza
▲ “Any form of giving is beneficial because when you give, you will also receive,” says Rowena B.
Cequeña, author of Handy Guide for Business Starters, after giving her testimonial on the power of
faithful tithing.
▲ Bro. Jan Silan, Feast Makati-Salcedo
builder, tells Feasters, “Let the Spirit
work in your heart to remind you that
there is hope.”
Prayer Time. Lord, I ask that You heal my brokenness, repair the damages in me that sin has caused.
Remove the blockages that prevent me from receiving Your love. I want more of You, more of Your
grace, more of Your Spirit. Come Holy Spirit, do Your work in me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
RECAP
The Gospel According to Mark 10: 46-52
“Believe to see many miracles.” – Fr. Michael Laguardia
Bartimaeus claimed that he will receive a beautiful grace from Jesus and so he did. The Lord
answers our prayers, he just wants us to call out His name, take that leap of faith and claim the
gifts that we’re asking for.
Series: I Believe
Talk 3: Empowered
Big Message: The Spirit works.
Three Things the Holy Spirit wants to do in our lives:
• Recreate our world. The same Spirit that turned St. Peter from
cowardly to courageous and strong is the same Spirit that is in this
world today. Let us allow the Holy Spirit to give us the strength and
the grace to establish that foundation in our lives.
• Empower our mission. Our workplace, school, family, ministry
are our mission fields. When the Spirit sends us, He supplies us. When
He employs us, He also equips, enables and empowers us.
• Encourage our spirit. To encourage means to fill someone with
courage. The Spirit anoints us to handle our problems. He gives
us hope.
Spiritual Emphysema. The word Spirit comes from the Hebrew word
ruakh, which means breath or wind. Some people suffer from Spiritual
Emphysema. (Emphysema is a lung disease that causes shortness of
breath.) There is no problem in the supply of oxygen. There is a problem
in the absorption. There is no lack in God’s blessings, but sometimes, we
couldn’t see or receive the blessings surrounding us.
What to Say. When we are with someone who is discouraged and we
don’t know what to say, allow the Holy Spirit to work in us and inspire us.
