THE PROPERTY<br />

Conch Sound Point (300 ac) and High Bank Bay (400<br />
ac) were optioned in 2007. Application was made<br />
to the Government of the Bahamas that same year<br />
for permission to purchase both tracts. Permission<br />
was granted by the Bahamas Investment Authority.<br />
Subsequently, in August of 2007, a team of professionals<br />
was assembled to begin the design process for what<br />
we thought then was going to be the Resorts of South<br />
Abaco. The acquisition of the parcels was completed<br />
in 2008 and our work continued towards an approval<br />
which was received in December of that year. The<br />
economic downturn in 2008, along with the very detailed<br />
administrative process for land and construction<br />
development in the Bahamas, prevented us from<br />
proceeding, until now.<br />
This delay was actually a blessing. It afforded us time<br />
to regroup, rethink and shape our development into<br />
something truly unique for this property. It also allowed<br />
us to add another key parcel and element to the overall<br />
resort masterplan, that being Leeward Harbor and its<br />
ideal location at the western tip of Abaco.<br />
Lastly, and probably the best kept secret, is that <strong>Kakona</strong><br />
offers to those that choose to take part, the opportunity<br />
to enjoy over 10 miles of white sand beach and the<br />
serenity and peace afforded with being surrounded by<br />
over 22,000 acres of Bahamas National Trust land.<br />

COURSE AT KAKONA<br />
David McLay Kidd has used his talents and global experience in Golf Course<br />
design to create what will become a show piece and cornerstone in the<br />
annals of golf. That’s a bold statement considering the nearby competition.<br />
David and his team have masterfully prepared <strong>Kakona</strong> so that it touches the<br />
ocean on nine holes with the 15th through the 18th capturing the energy<br />
from the ocean and conveying it into the field of play all while creating a<br />
canvas of shear beauty for those not playing to absorb and experience. The<br />
nine interior holes, lessor by no means, bring the natural beauty of south<br />
Abaco into play while combining with strategic water features for delivery<br />
of a full golf experience and effect. The executive course at Conch Sound<br />
Point, built as a private use facility for those owners and guests of Conch<br />
Sound only, weaves a beautiful tapestry into the interior that otherwise<br />
would not exist. Tied directly to the <strong>Kakona</strong> Lodge, this experience is one<br />

DAVID MCLAY KIDD<br />
Professional Golf Course Designer<br />
Born and raised in Scotland, son of a Golf Course Superintendent, David<br />
has been around golf his entire life and not just any golf but the oldest<br />
and finest courses in the world. As the son of a superintendent he saw<br />
‘behind the curtain’ what made these courses stand the test of time, what<br />
intrigued generations of Scottish golfers.<br />
For almost 10 years David has traveled the world assessing sites for golf,<br />
working with the Market Analyst’s, Master planners, Architects, Engineers,<br />
Ecological Consultants, Landuse and Planning Attorneys and every other<br />
consultant involved in the development process. This insight gave David<br />
the last vital piece he needed for his education, what the development<br />
process looks like from the client’s perspective.<br />
