A 14-year veteran of<br />
Congress, Lipinski dominated<br />
the competition on<br />
election night. Out of a total<br />
217,799 votes cast, Lipinski<br />
earned 160,501 (73.69<br />
percent), while Jones got<br />
57,298 (26.31), according<br />
to unofficial results from<br />
the Chicago Board of Elections,<br />
as well as clerk’s<br />
offices in suburban Cook,<br />
Will and DuPage counties,<br />
as of Friday, Nov. 9.<br />
In Chicago, Lipinski<br />
earned 55,813 votes<br />
(83.69) to 10,876 (16.31)<br />
for Jones. Lipinski had<br />

86,159 (71.31) in suburban<br />
Cook, with 252 out of 252<br />
precincts reporting, where<br />
Jones had 34,670 (28.69).<br />
In Will County, Lipinski<br />
earned 18,198 (55.90),<br />
while Jones gained 11,576<br />
(38.11), with 100 percent<br />
of precincts reporting. And<br />
in DuPage, Lipinski had<br />
331 votes (65.29), while<br />
Jones 176 (34.71).<br />
Following his victory,<br />
Lipinski issued a<br />
statement.<br />
“I want to thank the voters<br />
for giving me the honor<br />
of representing the Third<br />
District for another two<br />
years in the U.S. House of<br />
Representatives,” he wrote.<br />
“The results demonstrate<br />
that voters want more of<br />
my commonsense leadership<br />
that brings people together,<br />
and has produced<br />
results for the district and<br />
the country.”<br />
In suburban Cook County,<br />
the turnout for the district<br />
was 52.19 percent.<br />
In Will County, it was<br />
57.05.<br />

Fitzgerald got 32,175 votes<br />
for 51.55 percent, with Curran<br />
netting 30,236 votes for<br />
48.45 percent. DuPage had<br />
by far the most votes cast for<br />
the State Senate District 41<br />
race, coming in at a total of<br />
62,411.<br />
Finally, in Cook County,<br />
Curran had 11,203 votes<br />
(55.39 percent) to Fitzgerald’s<br />
9,021 votes (44.61)<br />
percent, with 35 of 35 precincts<br />
reporting. A total of<br />
20,632 ballots were cast in<br />
the race in Cook County.<br />

votes (55.24) to Hunt’s<br />
5,027 (44.76) in suburban<br />
Cook County with 20 of 20<br />
precincts reporting. Will<br />
County saw her up 20,658<br />
(59.22) to 14,223 (40.78)<br />
with 100 percent of precincts<br />
reporting.<br />
Turnout of registered voters<br />
for this race in suburban<br />
Cook County was 59.04 percent.<br />
In Will County, turnout<br />
was at 57.05 percent for the<br />
race.<br />
In an emailed statement<br />
to The Legend, McDermed<br />
thanked her supporters.<br />
“Thank you to everyone<br />
46,177 votes (48.48 percent)<br />
across the three counties,<br />
which had a sum of 95,239<br />
votes for the race.<br />
“I am humbled and honored<br />
to have the privilege<br />
to continue to represent the<br />
people of the 41st Senate<br />
District in the Illinois State<br />
Senate,” Curran told The<br />
Legend in an emailed statement<br />
following his victory.<br />
“Throughout this campaign,<br />
I have spoken to many residents<br />
about the need to hold<br />
the line on taxes, reform<br />
our property tax system and<br />
promote a safe and healthy<br />
living environment. This includes<br />
clean air and clean,<br />
affordable water.<br />
“My main focus upon returning<br />
to the Illinois Senate<br />
will be resolution to<br />
the pollution emitting from<br />
the Sterigenics facility in<br />
Willowbrook and holding<br />
American Water and the<br />
Illinois Commerce Commission<br />
accountable for the<br />
excessive rates charged for<br />
water in Homer Glen. Additionally,<br />
I will continue<br />
to advocate for term limits<br />
on all state elected officials<br />
and fair maps to end partisan<br />
gerrymandering, in order to<br />
reform Illinois’ broken system<br />
of governance.”<br />
With a total of 12,196<br />
votes and all 16 precincts<br />
reporting in Will County,<br />
Curran received 7,215 votes<br />
(59.16 percent), and Fitzgerald<br />
received 4,981 votes<br />
(40.84 percent).<br />
