Circus Vargas brings classic big-top fun to Santa Anita Park today through
Nov. 26
The Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus produced
its last extravaganzas in 2017, but another classic circus is still
going strong. Circus Vargas is bringing their newest animalfree
production to Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, starting today
and running through Nov. 26.
The family-friendly fun includes an amazing cast of
world-renowned death-defying acrobats, daredevils, flying
trapeze artists, jugglers, contortionists, comedians, clowns,
motorcycles and much more.
This year’s theme, “Dreaming of Pirates!” offers a fantastic voyage of nonstop action
and adventure, complete with a 45-minute interactive pre-show celebration where kids
can create their own magic and learn circus skills such as juggling and balancing. A meet
and greet with performers follows each show as well.
The Circus Vargas takes place under an old-fashioned Big Top tent, with a 20-man
team spending seven hours to create it at Santa Anita and creating a unique addition to
the Arcadia cityscape. This year’s Big Top went up Nov. 13.
Tickets range from $15 to $25. For show times and tickets, call (877) 468-3861.
WINNING WINES
Riboli Family of San Antonio Winery named Wine Enthusiast’s ‘American
Winery of the Year’
The San Antonio Winery has been a popular destination
for wine enthusiasts throughout its 101-year history, and it
now has received national recognition from Wine Enthusiast
magazine as its “American Winery of the Year.” The Riboli
family, which owns the winery, has revolutionized the wine
industry by creating a broad range of wines, including the
ultra-successful Stella Rosa collection, and San Simeon and
Maddalena wines, among others.
“We are beyond thrilled to be named Wine Enthusiast’s ‘American Winery of the
Year,’” said Anthony Riboli, fourth-generation winemaker of Riboli Family of San Antonio
Winery. “Our passion for winemaking and providing people with the best hospitality
and service has been our mission for over 100 years and we hope to continue to create
memories with the LA community and beyond for years to come.”
Aside from its estate vineyards covering more than 1,000 acres across California’s
Central Coast, the family has also built a state-of-the-art, energy-efficient winery in Paso
Robles, with an adjacent events center scheduled to open January 2019. Its downtown Los
Angeles location is the city’s original urban winery, and survived Prohibition by serving
as the number one producer of altar wines for Catholic Masses.
During Prohibition, the LA wine industry was forever changed when more than 100
wineries were forced to close. San Antonio Winery, however, flourished as a producer of
altar wines. It was founded in 1936 by Italian immigrant Stefano Riboli and he still helps
oversee its operations at the age of 97.
The San Antonio Winery is located at 737 Lamar St., Los Angeles. Visit
