A Message to the Pupils
of Jarvis
As a schoo l year draws near its close. pupils a re wont to count the
days-ticking them oH happily. one by one-that stand be tween them
and the vacation period.
I. too. am doing something like that. counting back ov er the years
- 37 of them-in which it has been my privilege and pleasure to servo
a s teacher and principal of Jarvis Collegia te. I am counting ahead. too.
in da ys end hours-maybe trying to slow them up a bit-:o the time
when I must quit the "Old Schoo l".
Departure Irom the cchool will mean no lessening 01 my Interest
in Jarvis; and whil e I shall reca ll with pleasure the happy cseocicncnc
of past years. my thoughts will be wi th the school of today - and
tomorrow.
Wha t the school is, and is to be, depends upon you , for you a re
Jarvis. Her traditions hold if you live up to them. Her reputation for
sound scholarship and high ideals 01 se rvice will grow only as you
grow in un derstanding a nd se nse of duty.
Each of you ha s an importa nt role to play in tho Iile of this school
a nd 01 this country. lor the whole stre ngth 01 school or nation depends
on the loyalt y e nd responsibility 01 its individua ls.
Tha t you, the students 01 Jarvis, do possess this se nse 01 respond
bili ty in unusu a lly la rge mea sure is quit e e vident a nd with your continued
co-operation a nd the ca pable and kindly g uida nce 01 Mr.
Jenkins. great things may be e xpected 01 yo u in the days that lie a head .
My wish for yo u is tha t the period whi ch you no w enter may be the
greatesl-and happiest-in the history 01 the school.
