A Message to the Pupils<br />

of Jarvis<br />

As a schoo l year draws near its close. pupils a re wont to count the<br />

days-ticking them oH happily. one by one-that stand be tween them<br />

and the vacation period.<br />

I. too. am doing something like that. counting back ov er the years<br />

- 37 of them-in which it has been my privilege and pleasure to servo<br />

a s teacher and principal of Jarvis Collegia te. I am counting ahead. too.<br />

in da ys end hours-maybe trying to slow them up a bit-:o the time<br />

when I must quit the "Old Schoo l".<br />

Departure Irom the cchool will mean no lessening 01 my Interest<br />

in Jarvis; and whil e I shall reca ll with pleasure the happy cseocicncnc<br />

of past years. my thoughts will be wi th the school of today - and<br />

tomorrow.<br />

Wha t the school is, and is to be, depends upon you , for you a re<br />

Jarvis. Her traditions hold if you live up to them. Her reputation for<br />

sound scholarship and high ideals 01 se rvice will grow only as you<br />

grow in un derstanding a nd se nse of duty.<br />

Each of you ha s an importa nt role to play in tho Iile of this school<br />

a nd 01 this country. lor the whole stre ngth 01 school or nation depends<br />

on the loyalt y e nd responsibility 01 its individua ls.<br />

Tha t you, the students 01 Jarvis, do possess this se nse 01 respond ­<br />

bili ty in unusu a lly la rge mea sure is quit e e vident a nd with your continued<br />

co-operation a nd the ca pable and kindly g uida nce 01 Mr.<br />

Jenkins. great things may be e xpected 01 yo u in the days that lie a head .<br />

My wish for yo u is tha t the period whi ch you no w enter may be the<br />

greatesl-and happiest-in the history 01 the school.<br />
