4 | November 21, 2<strong>01</strong>8 | 22nd century media holiday guide 22ndCenturyMedia.com Orland Park welcomes Christmas season with holiday festival Outdoor festivities return to Orland Park Village Center The Village of Orland Park officially welcomes the holiday season each year on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. This year’s annual holiday festival and tree lighting ceremony is to be held Sunday, Nov. 25. “Coming together as a community to welcome the holiday season is a long-standing Orland Park tradition,” said Trustee Dan Calandriello, chairman of the Village’s Parks and Recreation Committee. “It’s fun to see the many families come to see Santa, enjoy the holiday music and be a part of our annual tree lighting.” The holiday market — complete with food, crafts and holiday items — opens at 3:30 p.m. outside of the Orland Park Village Center, 14700 S. Ravinia Ave. The festivities are scheduled to begin with the tree lighting outside of Frederick T. Owens Village Hall at 4:30 p.m. Once the tree and lighted displays are lit, the holiday festival will continue until 7:30 p.m. The event features: the Carl Sandburg High School Chamber Choir and Jerling Jr. High School Choir; the Orland Park IMPROV Team; the Village’s Junior and Senior Dance Companies; Orland Park Library storytelling; and a performance of “Beyond the Nutcracker” by Ballet 5:8. Attendees also can visit with Santa, go on sleigh rides, see live reindeer, take kiddie car train rides ($1 per ride per child), and make crafts and more. Scout troops, churches, athletic organizations, youth groups and local clubs are invited to adopt community trees to decorate on the village green. A limited number of trees are available, and there is no cost to participate. Trees will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis and are approximately 5 feet tall. They will include lights and a sign with the organization’s name. Participating groups must provide the decorations (handmade or storebought). Organizations are asked to have their trees decorated by Nov. 25 in time for the holiday festival. Vendor spots also remain available for the holiday market, with a variety of sellers welcomed — including ready-to-eat food, crafts, jewelry, holiday décor and more.
