South ready for connection

There are too many factors
for Glenbrook South
players this season to not
be motivated.
The intensity is already
up a few weeks into the
season because each Titan
knows this season can be
different. From the talent
returning to this season being
the end of the road for
not only players but also a
coach, the upcoming winter
is one GBS players are
ready to make a memorable
one.
“They really play hard,”
GBS head coach Steven
Weissenstein said. “It’s
kind of neat because our
best players are competitors,
they want to win every
drill. When your best players
are your most competitive,
that just rubs off on all
the other kids.”
A quick start is exactly
what Weissenstein and
players know is important
if they want to have a deep
run in the playoffs. While
the Titans won last season’s
Thanksgiving tournament
and went on to lose
in the regional title game
to Maine West, players
like Kristin Ralston know
a quick start to the season
is crucial, especially if they
want to play at the level
of their Central Suburban
League South Division
foes.
The key for that quick
start for the Titans will be
the returning senior trio of
Ralston, Makayla Stadler
and Libbie Vanderveen.
Stadler is the Titans’ quick
player who impresses with
her stealing skills. Ralston
returns as GBS’ lead scorer
who spent time during
the offseason working
on her post game so she
can compete against the

All three bring something
different to the team,
but they all bring that intensity
Weissenstein is excited
to see from his player.
“Every coach would love
to have those three on your
team,” Weissenstein said.
“Those three want to win
every drill.”
They have the speed
to do it. While the Titans
aren’t the tallest team in the
state, their plan is to outrace
them. Weissenstein’s
plan is to press a lot and
force turnovers on the defensive
end, With a quick
squad, the Titans can get
down the court and create
fastbreak opportunities off
of those turnovers.
