He will be part of the celebration at Sager Place which includes live entertainment, free face painting, a petting zoo, a cottage craft market and stalls selling boutique goods. The Light Up East Ryde event starts at 3pm and continues to 8pm. There will also be a $1,000 Cash Prize Raffle to be drawn at 7.30pm. The event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ryde with promotion by The Weekly Times. “Light Up East Ryde is a local Christmas street market where friends and family come together in the spirit of Christmas to meet Santa, enjoy the local market stalls, food, live entertainment and most of all the community atmosphere.” the Ryde Rotary team said. “We would love to have you and your family attend and we have organised a park and ride facility at North Ryde Common to alleviate parking problems on the day, so why not ask friends to take advantage of the free ride.” There are eight major raffle prizes on offer as well as the first prize of $1,000 cash. Other prizes include an electric guitar with an amplifier, holiday accomodation and watches ! Sager Place and Dowd Lane will be closed to traffic during the event and buses will terminate at Badajoz Road and Twin Road. Trees Of Joy (pictured, right ) are a Rotary Club tradition that invite people in need - especially children - to post a Christmas present wish of tree branches for someone caring to come along a pick and fulfil the Christmas wish. One of our favourite annual programs is the ‘Tree of Joy’,” Geoff Brennan from Ryde Rotary said. “It is a program that involves the whole community, providing an opportunity to reach out and help those in need. “A simple and powerful idea, we place a Christmas tree in a shopping centre and local charity groups hang envelopes on the tree with the details of needy children in the district. “We hope shoppers will choose a child to support, based on their story and their Christmas wish. “They buy a gift for that child and that gift is delivered to the family for Christmas. “Ryde Rotary introduced the program to Australia many years ago and it has become a huge success around the country. “This year, why not reach out yourself and shine a little light in the life of a child in need.” Mr Breenan said there is a tree at the Eastwood Centre and at West Ryde Marketplace. “Rotary is only the catalyst in the Tree of Joy program,” he said. “We provide cards to local charities to complete with details of gifts sought for individuals and we arrange for these to be placed on the trees.”

Angus Taylor is the new federal Minister for Energy in the Morrison federal government and he is one of the stand out capable members of the federal ministry which overfall is fairly ordinary and lacking commonsense ability. Bennelong MP John Alexander OAM invited Angus Taylor to visit his electorate last Friday and JA took him on a tour of West Ryde commercial and industrial areas where he was able to meet, talk and listen to constituents. Naturally enough the cost of electricity was the major concern of most people visited from Taffas hardware, Neon café Graf Avenue, Beaumonts tiles Victoria Road, Formula Chemicals in Hermitage Road industrial zone and Mitronics nearby.
